Hello!
I had a parathyroidectomy on 2/16/2022. The day after surgery I felt pretty good. The next day I was very dizzy. It effected my vision and I was barely able to function. My surgeons asst. told me that it should go away in a week or two. That it could have been how my head was positioned in surgery, or effects of the anesthesia??? But that no one complains of dizziness after surgery. It is 10 days later and I am still so dizzy. I went to the Emergency Room and they told me my inner ears were swollen and to use Flonase. I am doing that right now but it is not helping. My calcium, phosperous, sodium and PTH are in the normal range. I am taking 1000 mg of tums 3 times a day. I am also doing the Epley Maneuver myself because the asst. said maybe it was how my head was positioned?? I don't know, but I can't live like this. I know I had to have the cyst removed, but honeltly I could live with the other symptoms. Dizziness is very difficult to function with. Does anyone else have this symptom? What helped you, if anything??
Thank you for any assistance anyone can offer.
Holly
Hello, hollykz.
I found a similar thread on SH - https://www.steadyhealth.com/topics/parathyroidectomy-complications-2.
From what I can see, it is connected with calcium levels. Maybe you need more of it?
In the other thread, one of the guests mentioned that he/she needed 3 months until getting back to normal. Hope you won't need to wait that long.
Have you thought of getting a second opinion? It's very unlikely that dizziness is caused by the wrong positioning of the head during the surgery.
What did they tell you about the inner ear? Do they have any clue what caused the swelling?
