I got bumps a month ago, I always had sebaceous prominence, for as long as I can remember, but they never had become inflamed. My doctor told me they were probably Folliculitus, but they did not clear up from antibiotics, I think they are sebaceous glands inflammed, but the doctor thought it might be cholesterol, Anyone had the sebaceous glands turn the skin red like a pimple?
Yes, sebaceous cysts can get both inflamed and infected. There is a difference in these two and they require different approaches and treatments.

If the sebaceous cyst is just tender and red, it is probably inflammation and it occurred due to cyst rupture. Inflammation is cured by corticosteroids.

However, if infection occurred, it means that the cyst became infected by bacteria and in that case you would need an antibiotic to treat the infection. Some physicians even decide to drain the cyst and then prescribe antibiotics but it may not always be the case.

If your cyst just got inflamed, then antibiotics probably won’t do much to decrease the swelling, redness and inflammation.

Don’t do anything on your own as you can only get things worse. See a doctor again. See if you can get a second opinion.

yes, and sure that they look very ugly. and they are painful as well. you can easily recognize it - redness, swelling, and tenderness in the area are the signs that this is inflamed or infected. also, ruptures can become painful and infected. but I am sure that you can notice this, right? so, it is very important for you to know that an epidermoid cyst can become tender and swollen, even if it's not infected. if you notice something like this, if you feel some pain, see some redness, don't try to deal with it alone. you should definitely seek for sebaceous cyst on face treatment from your doctor. gl.
