Hello, guys.
I have a dilemma and hope you can resolve it for me. I was diagnosed with celiac some time ago and have been forced to change my eating habit. You know, gluten-free food etc. Since then, I experience some flu-like symptoms, have swollen glands and a lot of fatigue. Besides that, I also have some physiological symptoms, such as anxiety and depression followed by panic attacks.
All that looks as withdrawal symptoms. But, can it be true?
I wondered if there is such a thing as gluten withdrawal? I would really appreciate your answer as this is driving me crazy.
Thank you.
Hi, Sandra.
You are not wrong, that's really withdrawal symptoms and, yes, gluten withdrawal really exists. It isn't a myth.
I don't want to scare you, but I will recommend checking with your doctor, because some of your symptoms can be caused by other conditions. Iron or vitamin B insufficiency first come to my mind, but you also could have Epstein-Barr virus or chronic fatigue syndrome.
You'll need blood check to confirm or rule out any of those conditions.
As for gluten withdrawal, symptoms will go away when your body accepts new diet.
Good luck!
