I find this insainley pathetic. We're all completely aware that smoking is bad for you, although we may not all know the effects of it anyone in the 21 century is aware that its bad. You don't need to bash someone because they smoke. I believe that smoking stunting your growth isn't completely factually either. But I'm not going to deny that smoking is bad for your health. I find it highly ignorance ridden that you actually said that his grandmother must have died from cancer. My grandmother is 80 years old and healthy as a horse, and has been smoking since 10. Now she wasn't a two packs a day person, still isn't. But she has smoked for a long time, and is healthy and has all her wits about her. My mother smoked since 13 and she is healthy, and not yellow or smelly, neither is my grandmother, or any other smokers I know.

And if you have normal hygienic practices, your teeth aren't going to turn yellow. It's the same as if you were to eat candy all the time or drink coffee and never brush your teeth, it's gross and that's what you get for not being clean.

My belief is it all depends on the person and the circumstances. If you're willing to take the risk go for it.

Please please please, stop asking people to keep in there two cents, because it's there's to throw about wherever they want, and especially if your explanation for why they shouldn't be saying anything, makes you look like an ignorant douche bag.

Okay, First off this argue meant has gone way out of control...Let me clear this up im 17 years old right now i stand at 6'4 and weigh 205 lbs...i started smoking when i was 8 yrs old with my brother...i didnt smoke much bk when i was that young BUT when i hit 12 yrs old i was maybe 5'4 and when i was 12 i probably smoked 1 n half packs a day and i grew up to 6'4 so i do not think smoking stunts your growth cause really smoking mostly causes cancer and now i smoke maybe 2 pks or more a day at 17 and been doing so since 12 yrs and went to my Dr. recently and told him i smoke this much and he looked my lungs over etc. and said i had perfectly healthy lungs heart etc. And my family is rather short my mom is 5'1 my dad is 5'10 and my bro is 6'1 and im the youngest and my dad smokes more than me but hes 44 and perfectly healthy and yes this is a known FACT!...So for the people that want to know....Does smoking stunt your growth??..The REAL answer is No it does not...And if this paragraph still doesnt make you believe this then go look it up....but the stupid conventions or pamplets etc... all they are trying to do is scare the young ones saying all this BS about how bad it is and it stunts your growth...So they do not start smoking and yes i say Do Not Start Smoking Very Bad For You but i havent had a single problem and i probably smoke more than you all put together LOL...j/k But i might sad to say....I Have my Moments..Ok Hope this helps ya'll..

Actually McMiller is only partially correct. Smoking a great deal can stunt your growth, as can consuming excessive alcohol, eating too much, exercising too much, and generally doing anything too much. The anti-smoking lobbyists have distorted the research in this field so much by paying for research that supports their position that one has to be very careful what one reads. I recommend only reading independent research, and even then there is sometime a money-trail back to either the pro or anti-smoking groups.

If you're smoking a couple of cigarettes a day then I really wouldn't worry, in fact worrying will probably do more to stunt your growth than the cigarettes.

Again McMiller is only partially correct. While research supports that mothers who smoke have babies with a lower birth rate it also shows that the babies quickly recover the weight and are normal weight within a year. As for the claim of health problems, there is some research that suggests a link between smoking parents and a higher prevalence of respiratory conditions such as asthma, however this research has not been placed in context in most cases. Having two smoking parents raises your risk of asthma roughly the same amount as living in a modern city, and is less than half as risky as living in a city with heavy air pollution such as New York. In other words, if you live in London then the air you're getting through the cigarette filter is probably cleaner than the air you're normally breathing.

Again, untrue. For adults the risks are simply different. Adults commonly have higher stress levels, which compound the risks of heart disease, and are less physically active, which compounds lung disease. Advertisers tend to exaggerate the risks to children because research has shown that people won't quit for themselves, but will quit when they see it as a threat to those they love (children and pets for example).

I'm not saying that you should, or shouldn't smoke, that is purely your decision to make. I think that is what a lot of people here are missing. They can't force you to make the decision they want, so they're hoping to scare you into it, which is pretty darned low.

If you decide to keep smoking then I'd suggest setting a limit on how many you'll smoke a day or a week. Its easy for the number to slowly increase if you're not counting. Set rules for when you'll smoke, and try to be a considerate and polite smoker, smoking in areas where your choice won't affect others. Try to bring the number down slowly until you're smoking only as much as you need to. Its a very personal line, but it might be helpful for you to decide on a number and keep to it so you don't suddenly find yourself smoking a pack a day and wondering how you got there from a couple of cigarettes a week.

If you decide to quit, then that is a very cool decision, because you're reducing one more risk factor in your life, kindof like deciding to look left AND right before you cross the road. The reason for your decision is quite important though. If you quit smoking because you're afraid of being short, and then go out and eat two big McDonalds burgers every day for the next week to compensate for the cravings then you're probably doing more harm than good. If you quit because you want to be as healthy and happy as you can be and minimise your risk factors, then do that, but don't just cut out one bad behaviour to replace it with another, change your whole life. Its easier when you're young.

Quitting isn't easy, and I'd suggest getting some help from your friends. It may sound kindof funny, but one of them punching you in the shoulder every time you try to light up is a big help. If your friends don't want you to quit then perhaps its time for some new friends, ones who'll help you and support you in doing positive stuff you want to do - this is kindof a general rule, and doesn't just apply to smoking.

I guess that my general message here is, "Don't be a sheep". Lots of people walk around their whole lives swallowing half-truths and believing everything they're told. It is a lot harder to go out and read up on stuff and get properly informed, but its well worth it not to be a sheep. Sheep are always being bullied, frightened or lied to, and being made to do stuff by other people. Far more important than making the decision to smoke or not is making the decision whether or not you want to be a sheep.

Yo, so this guy is talking like a complete jackass. The only reason why they won't legalize it is because the government can't tax it. The people coming to our schools are telling us it's a stupid decision; alot of decent careers do drug tests. I agree with him on one thing though "life is to short" but why make it shorter?

anywho weed is sh*t compared to rocks.

that sh*t will keep you rolling.

Ive been smoking since the age of nine, I am 6" 1 and I do have a large penis. All this it utter bollocks. Sure it will make you very unhealthy, which should be the top of your worries, not worrying about how tall you are.

I am 15 and have delayed puberty.
I am 5,3" and have started smoking 1 every couple of days, i have not yet near fully grown will it effect my growth dramatically?

Smoking does not stunt your growth, however it can have an impact on your lungs, as well as if you smoke marijuana, it can interfere with boy's testosterone development. I have a friend who cannot grow beard hair to this day even though he's 30, and the rest of his family has beards. I hope that this helps! Does anyone have questions?

I'm 5'8"/174cm and 14 and 7 months old, how tall do you think I'll be when I'm fully grown? I started puberty at the same time as everyone else, when I was like 12 I think...

I used to smoke like 1 or 2 cigs a day for the past 3 months, I quit because I decided I wasn't going to risk it...

HI there, smoking won't really stunt your growth but usually you reach your full height as late as 18. So just sit back and see how far your puberty takes you. If you' stay at the height you're at now, you're still an average guy and that's pretty good! Does that help?

Working out and weight lifting release testosterone which helps you grow. Working out and staying active increases your growth to its maximum.
