I have stage III internal hems. The surgeon my insurance will pay for wants to do PPH and will consider nothing else. I wanted to start more conservatively and have read a lot about Doppler Guided Hemorrhoidal Artery Ligation. The nearest surgeon doing this is 5 hours away - but I am happy to drive it if it is worth it. I will see that surgeon in 4 days for a consultation (out of pocket). Don't know if I can get my insurance company to approve it - if not I bet I can't afford to pay it myself. I'm hoping that it could be done with local anesthesia only as I don't have anyone to care for me and it is out patient. I have read several papers in which this was done with local only.
Does anyone have any experience with this procedure? It has been done a lot in Europe, but not so much here in the US.
It is driving me crazy not to be able to stand up for any length of time before the hem prolapses and starts bleeding. I can't do anything anymore!
Thanks

I don't have any experience with the actual procedure but I know that it is performed often in Europe as you are saying, and I understand that it's pretty successful without much to worry about in terms of side effects. Of course, that's always a possibility so the consult you're going in for should help quite a bit. Would you mind sharing with us the results of your consultation? Thanks!
keep reading on here. Everyone that had it in USA on this board wished they hadn't. i am due for the stapled one in about a week, and am thinking of cancelling. it is a horror story everywhere i read.
