Hello. I have been on different kinds of pain medicine for a little over 4 years now due to an accident at work resulting in 3 knee replacements within a year. I had my most recent replacement in March of this year and have been on oxycodone for about a year and a half. I still have extreme pain in my knee with therapy and now because of all my knee problems, I have started having severe back pain. My MRI of my back shows a few bulging discs and pinched nerves and a narrowing spinal canal. My orthopedic surgeon does not work on the spine therefore I have to be referred to one that does. On my last doctors visit, he told me he would like me to start trying to take less of my oxycodone. I am on 15mg two times a day. I know that doesnt sound like much but sometimes I have to take a little extra due to increased pain. I have an appointment this afternoon for a check up on the knee. I have not been able to take less of my oxycodone because as soon as I do, the pain becomes unbearable. I dont want my doctor to think I am abusing my medicine because I certainly am not doing that at all. I dont know how to explain to him that I need my medicine without sounding like a pill popper. Please help!!
