hi
its my husbands problem aged 31yrs
the problem is....when he sleeps (no matter day time nap or night time sleep), he drools a lot
the saliva (according to him tastes really bad) sometimes it is in water form and some times it comes out like foam (eg; leather from soap)
im sorry i dont know a better name for this problem (drooling or over salivation)
other problems are
he smokes about 6-9 cigarettes per day and he has some gastric problems too like burning sensations after eating for that he is using some ranitidine 150mg
i do not know whether smoking or gastric problems are related to this condition but just to make the picture more clear i had to mention
one more thing he is obese too
at the age of 31 and with the height 5 ft 6" he weighs about 112 kgs

please if any one knows the solution to this problem share it
thank u
Hi! When we sleep, most of us have our mouths open and thus bacteria get int there - thus morning breath - we drool, because we don't swallow (untill we are awoken and then realize there is a pool in the bed) your husbands problems is exasperated from his acid reflux, his smoking - which he would need to breathe via more of his mouth open - and probably sleep apniea, whcih is very common for obese people! So unfortunately all 3 are contributing to this! I KNOW from sleeping with my husband, that this will bother you more than him! IF it does bother him, he needs to sleep at an angle - a couple of pillows underneath his head - and then the fluid will go down his throught! This will also help with acid reflux and the apnea! I hope this helps!

Ranitidine did me terrible. The VA put me on it for acid reflux and I had to leave work one day because of the pain in my chest. My doc told me to go to the ER. After tests they put me on Prilosec and that cured the acid reflux and the pain. I also have begun drooling at night but I'm going to be 70 in a few weeks. I figured it went with the territory at my age. Apparently I stop producing saliva after I get to sleep though as I wake up with a very dry mouth in the morning.

From my experience I don't recommend more pillows. Lifting my head CAUSES sleep apnea for me. I have to keep my neck as straight as possible to open the airway.

I work with a client that has epilepsy and is on lamictal. His dosage has been lowered over the last few months drastically due to platelets count. He is experiencing insomnia (non sleeping) for days and excessive drooling. What's going on?
