Well i started getting these bout a year or 2 ago. I remember the first time i got it was wen i brush my teeth and then drunk some koolaid and it hurts really bad den i have to go to the restroom. I don't get them often but i do forget sometimes don't eat sweet in da morning and they will come back. So i think we shouldn't brush out teeth and den eat or drink something sweet because something isn't mixing right and it form some type of painful laxative lol. if you brush your teeth wait awhile before eating something sweet i guess :-|

Probable diagnosis is Irritable Bowel Disease.

My mother has IBS and I too find that I have terrible stomach aches when I wake up early in the morning. If I wake up around 11, which only happens on weekends, my stomach is fine, but anything before that will probably send me off to the toilet. My mother, because of her IBS, has gone onto multiple medications, as well as changed her diet to a completely raw diet. Her life revolves around her diet, which after 10 years of suffering from IBS, it is understandable that she wants to have some control over this. I on the other hand am a male college student, and believe it or not I have found that a small amount of cannabis (in food, or vapor, not smoke because a coughing fit will not soothe your stomach ache) has helped tremendously. The cramps go away, however if I focus on it I can feel them come and go. However, instead of rushing off to the bathroom every 5 minutes, I have found that I only need to go to the bathroom once or maybe twice (which feels so relieving). I have decided that I would rather have a small amount of something natural and from the earth, than a prosthetic drug that has scary side effects.

It is nice to know that other people have the same problems :-) I only get them every now and then but it still worries me.

Im just about approaching my GCSEs with language orals coming up which are really worrying me. I hoping that the cause is from stress or anxiety- hopefully not IBS...the prodding and probing doesnt sound too fun...

I had quite a bad case earlier where i almost passed out and felt very ill in general.

Easter holidays have just finished too so the sleeping patterns changed drastically there. I hope things improve as i get use to the early mornings again otherwise its a dreaded trip to the doctors :\

I agree with drivemwild 100% dont eat anything about three hours before bed and dont let stress get the best of you, try this for one week and maybe taking some prilosec, the prilosec will help make your stool not so loose.

Hi All,

I personally believe that these pains are the result of a combination of....Eating before bed, and waking up early...........I think that when people get up and do not have enough sleep. Their body is still digesting whatever they ate before bed. Therefore releasing Hydroclauric acid, which attacks the walls of the stomach.

Try a dilute solution of baking soda and water when you get up.....it will settle the acid.....

I have the same trouble. Only when I eat in the morning does this happen. I have tried eating a yogurt..or healthy cereal (Kashi) then switched to Silk soy milk instead of regular cows milk. Same thing happens no matter what I eat. It only lasts about half hour and then goes away for the day.

Hi All,
Same thing with me. Only happens in the morning, first thing I eat. whether it is yogurt, Kashi cereal with Soy milk, eggs etc...
I drink coffee every morning, but stomach does not hurt until i actually eat something. It leaves in about 20-30 minutes. But feel nauseous for a while with it. I am post menopausal.
Those of you that have been diagnosed with IBS...should be checked for yeast infection (stomach and intestines). My son had it for years without being properly diagnosed. He now is yeast free, eats a diet low in sugar/starch/refined carbs and is feeling great.

Hi everyone

I made the first reply on this thread and wanted to give some feedback as well as some hope to everyone.

I had this supposedly "normal" condition for roughly 10 years [1998 - 2008] before it suddenly disappeared.

After getting sick and tired of the cramping feeling and also being told by the doc it was "normal", I went to the chemist that night and explained my on-going problem to a pharmacist who suggested some peppermint oil tablets to sooth the cramping feeling. I thinks they were called mintex?

Over the next few days when I got the feeling I would was take one of these peppermint oil tablets as directed on the packet (this actually occurred more often over these few days thanks to some dodgy food) and after a while it started to decrease.

After A week or so, they had disappeared. A few months later I went back to doing some shift work (7:30am starts) which used to be a problem for me but suddenly these early mornings weren't a problem. I became a lot happier and I even remember consciously dreading a career with early starts as I thought this would continue for years to come.

Anyway I'm still doing shift work (with earlier hours) and have no problems at all. I eat at all hours of the day, sleep all over the place and I'm even starting to eat / drink foods that I thought were "triggers".

I can't really explain how or why things changed, it could be a combination of things but I just wanted to let everyone know that it can go away. Perhaps the peppermint oil got things back in order and rebooted my digestive system? Maybe trying different things help? I'm not 100% sure.

A lot of people use the terms IBS but from what I had, and what other people say in this thread it all seems to be based on the time of the day and my doctor suggested sleep patterns. I've also used some hints and tips on this thread and it initially helped a lot so thanks to everyone for that.

Finally I will suggest to anyone that has this problem to keep an eye out for foods that might trigger the "nervous stomach" which for me include fatty foods, onion, hot drinks and a few others I can't think of right now. Also exercise more... even if it's just going for a walk, I have a feeling exercising more has helped my digestive system. I also used to "hold in" the cramping feeling a lot but I learnt to "let it go" discreetly if you know what I mean... and this also helped a lot... ;)

I'd also like to note that I've never really been a "stressed" person.. in fact the job I'm in now is classified as a "high stress risk" environment, so it's certainly not that. So don't stress about stressing. =]

I used to get intestinal cramps every morning when I was in school (all through high school and college) and only getting about 5 hours sleep each night. It wasn't until I left school and started getting 8 hours sleep each night that the cramps stopped. Now I can tell exactly: if I get 5 hours sleep I will get cramps - if I get at least 8 (or only 3), I don't.

I also have a similar problem. Everytime I wake up in the mornings I have cramps. The I have to use the restroom many times. Then in the afternoon it all goes alright. It is just in the mornings. So I think you should try eating earlier before you got to sleep because I tried that and it made a huge difference. I usually eat dinner like around 11pm and go straight to bed. I think you should try that. It might help.
Hope it helps =)

this has been happening to my boyfriend every morning for a week straight and he's losing weight already =((( he does also have a sensitive stomach like others and myself. but on another note, this used to happen to ME everyday and i was told i was lactose entolerant and then later the doc said IBS, which i never believed. In feb of 2008, i had to have an emergency appendectomy and since then i realized that i NEVER get those types of problems anymore. not sure if they're related, just putting it out there....

i am 19 year old female and i have a kinda weird story as to how i started having these problems. on my birthday i went to a friends and we played beer pong, full from all the beer i threw up what seemed like all night and the next morning i started my period. usually my cramps hurt so bad i throw up and my cramps go away. of coarse i thew up but after i did my cramps were still there.. i took a nap, they went away but then later that evening i felt sick again and threw up. not normal for me.. and just about everyday after that i wake up with stomach pains. about 3 weeks later i had stomach pains so bad and i couldnt stop throwing up all day and i had my mom take me to the doctor. i race motocross so i break bones and iv broken my wrist and it was completely crukid (or however you spell it) i had to get it reset, let me tell you that was not a fun experience i almost passed out in my moms arms from screaming soo much.. but this stomach pain was waaayyyy worse.. i ended up having some stomach flu and was put on 3 different medications, ciprofloxacin (so the flu would go away), promethazine (for the vomiting), and diphenoxylate-atropine (for diarrhea). i have been off of the medication for about 4 days and i still suffer from these stupid stomach pains. i still have vomiting meds and diarrhea meds.. i never really took them before because my mom wanted me to let my stomach settle on its own so it wouldnt get dependent on the vomiting pills. i force myself to sleep past 1130 just so i dont have to wake up feeling like i need to throw up.. i also normally have a fast metabolism but now i prolly poop like 3 times a day.. not including when i have to pee because when i pee i end up pooping a little.. that was never normal. and its all diarrhea. im not sure if its because of stress and nerves because im in a rocky time in my relationship with my boyfriend, we have been together for 4 years and went through a really bad break up about a year ago.. and got back together about 6 months ago.. or if its because i dont eat until all kinds of hours after 6 pm. im just never hungry throughout the day.. i live on my own and usually stay out until about 12 am and ill get home and make ramen noodles or a pb&j sandwhich or something and go straight to sleep. i use to eat right before bed all the time so its weird that when i do it now i wake up with stomach cramps in the morning.. my stomach hasnt acted this way since i use to go to daycare.. my mom worked at one so i use to get up at 6 sm and go there with her and waking up that early i would get them sometimes. im going to try to find some vitamins or some supliment that gives you all the nutrients and good stuff your body needs on a daily bases because i dont eat much and see if that helps any.. plus i dont want to look annerexic.. im 115 and i look like im like 90. lol i just have a lot of muscle that weighs me down.. i also dont want to loose my muscle due to the fact i cant eat.

come to think of it maybe it has to do a lot with someones eating and sleeping schedule??
maybe if i just get my stomach back to the right eating schedule it will help out a lot. i still would want to try the vitamins tho.
i will prolly be back to report my experiments for future blog viewers or past blog viewers that still need a remedy.
