Hello,

I should start out by saying that I take no medication, and have no history of mental illness other than a brief bout with depression some years ago.

Two days ago, I was in bed trying to take a nap. I say 'trying' because I can almost never fall asleep: my mind always races far too much. But two days ago, I was almost there, when several things happened all at once (with my eyes closed):
A huge flash of white light
A sensation similar to when you feel an open electric current
A sound in my mind similar to a bumblebee's buzzing

All these lasted for no more than a second, and then went away. They've yet to come back. However, I've had intermittent 'pressure' in the days since': not painful by any stretch, but at least its there.

I was diagnosed with a cystic mass in my brain about a year ago. It was classified as benign back then, and I was told just to watch it once a year to make sure it doesn't progress.

Has anyone else felt what I described?
Yes.

Quite frequently some time ago (a couple of times a day) - now less so.
Almost like a train rumbling then a Zeeeep! in the head.

Workings of the heart and the brain are based on a chemical-electo-pulse. I just viewed this as a small electrical surge - and like you, I had had a lot on my mind back then. I know I wasn't eating too healthily.

If it was to start to debilitate you - then seek medical guidance.

BUT - be cautious about relating this to "Meditation Junkies". You will more than likely get:
"Wow, you are, like, sooo lucky!"
"Congratulations. All the dedication of meditation is paying off..."
"You have heard the Aum of the universe... You are blessed"

Good luck :-|

This is actually an answer. For about a month I have been having multiple electrical surges in my head, buzzing in the ears, and numbness of the mouth and lips. Sometimes a headache would accompany these sensations but most often I was just having the sensations. Over the course of 4 weeks they got more and more frequent and headaches were coming more often. I went to my family Dr. He ran blood work, EKG and a CT Scan all was negative so he sent me to a neurologist where they did an MRA and discovered I have an aneurysm in my right internal corroded artery. It's still small but they fear its growing, On Friday I will have a CT Angiogram done to determine the rate of growth and if I need to have it clipped now or just watched.

For those of you having these sensations they are signs and symptoms of possible blood clots, or bulges within your arteries...often chest palpitations will accompany these symptoms. So I urge you all to follow up with a neurologist and demand an MRA and MRI, they will show whats going on.

It obviously has nothing to do with age. I just turned 18, and I get these "power surges" once in a while. It is always when I am close to sleep, and it feels like an electric charge runs through my brain. It's not painful at all, and I was never worried about it. In fact, I came to like it. I know I'm about to do exactly what the first reply says, but it's true. In the past, I have successfully used this power surge as a tool for Astral Projection. It seems to momentarily loosen my consciousness from my body, allowing me to slip out. I just had another surge last night, and very nearly succeeded in reaching the Astral Plane.

If you aren't into that kind of thing, then I can't think of another use for it. You might want to get it checked out if you're worried, but I've been experiencing the surges for a couple years, and no damage is apparent.

*Smirks* Indeed, you have heard the Aum of the universe! (Not serious. I just find that funny for some reason.)

Hello,
I were googling for "buzzing sensation in head" and got to this topic.
The first post writes the exact symptoms that I've started having ("A huge flash of white light, A sensation similar to when you feel an open electric current,
A sound in my mind similar to a bumblebee's buzzing") before I fall asleep. It started after I began to practice Lucid dreaming techniques.
Usually, it happens when I get to bed realy tired. Suddently I start having this buzzing sensation in my head and as it gets louder the flash of white light happens. Then I start halucinating and it sometimes progresses to a lucid dream or a similar fenomenon OBE.

I'm not sure, but I guess it might have something to do with the change of the brainwave frequency when your brain enters a sleap stage.

Are there any other Lucid dreamers who noticed the link between these things?

Hi,

My surges are all day long. I don't see a flash of white light. My ears have been ringing, clicking, and fluttering.

There's no sound in my brain just a one second surge of something. Like it's expanding.... Hard to explain.

Thanks!

Well, the sensation goes on. 24/7. I have done all that I can except an MRI. My insurance sucks and I've already gone over the $400 allotted amount for labs and xrays. I guess to ease my minds before having my teeth pulled, I'll have to go with the MRI. Thanks for the info people.

Hi my name is Adam I am 29 years old....Today I had a weird experience...... while walking from one room to the next in my house i heard first a buzzing sound like a large bee go in my ear then felt an almost blinding electrical buzz through my head and out the other ear..this all happened in a half a second... it was so intense and disturbing I actually ducked down and grabbed my head out of reflex....  then kind of froze there for a second thinking about it..... I knew that there wasnt a bee or a bug in the house but I looked anyways hoping that there was a logical explanation for this.... but after scanning the house and finding nothing, My first thought was something supernatural, LOL, as crazy at that sounds it felt like something passed through my head... I am not easily scared or easily convinced of any such thing but I truly have never felt anything like that before and I was all alone in my quiet house.... I was reluctant to tell my wife because she is easily spooked... but i did and she convinced to begin researching online... most discussions are about chronic buzzing and electrical feelings associated with vision loss and other symptoms.. .. nothing to explain something like that out of nowhere.....  I am more curious than scared but after reading some of the medical conditions associated should I be concerned? It happened once but holy sh%# it was loud and weird as hell.... nothing subtle about i would have heard and felt it in a concert... it was definately internal and more of a feeling than a noise.

I too have periodic electrical charges in my brain, what I call brain surges.  I haven't experienced any pre-warning buzzing, but the surge itself does seem to have a sizzle sound within my head.  I get the bright or white light, but I don't think I see it with my eyes.  It's more like I see it in my brain.  Without warning, it's like an electric surge hits my brain and washes it in bright light.  my actual vision gets strange, like it is stuttering.  Even though I tend to freeze in the second it happens, my sight slips sideways in quick separate frames (like an old time film real).  It's over in a second, but its effects stay for a while.  I always remain lightheaded for a while after and it takes a little time for my eyes to regain good focus.  It usually happens when I am wide awake, doing normal daily things, even just sitting.  It has never happened when i,m laying down or getting sleepy.  The first time it happened I was about 35 years ago.  It happens more frequently now (I'm 59)--about 5 to 7 times a year.  The last time seemed more intense and I screamed out loud (but that day, when it happened, my husband was taking me home after knee surgery and I hadn't fully recovered from the anesthesia).  I remember that my dad said he had the same electrical surges happening to him periodically most of his life.  I have always wondered how this compares to a mini stroke.  I take an aspirin every day.

i had a lucis dream when i was 16. it changed my life for a while after. it sounds simple; i saw a tea cup gently stirring. i woke up and the sensation was as if i had entered a higher state of reality. for a week after it felt as though i had one foot in reality and one foot in the spiritual world - so joyous and peaceful.

i'm 22 now and i've been having these 'brain-zaps.' i experience them when in a very relaxed mental state, i.e dreaming or meditation. i always want to to surrender to the experience but i am scared in a weird sort of way. i think i'll visit a doctor but i will just get handed some chemical drug which quite honestly is dangerous and not an answer to the problem. what is happening might even be a step to me achieving that higher state of consciousness yet again. i don't know what to do? any advice?

Hi,
I think it might be time to see the doctor again. The cyst may have grown or changed shape. Or your experience may be related to any number or things although a single occurrence doesn't indicate very much. I am 65 and have had a lot of strange things happen, including temporary partial vision loss in one eye that is related they tell me to painless migraines, buzzing and a feeling of electricity in my head, and other strange experiences that are harmless but a bit alarming at the time.
I hope all gets settled soon.

hey there , i get these pretty often going to and waking up from sleep, as i post this i just woke up from a nap with one , which is why im on this page to begin with . This is what happens when i go into sleep paralysis as well but with these it "almost " happens but doesnt . if they get more intense , then that is when it goes into full on sleep paralysis. I think they are related somehow . you might want to read up on ISP and RISP. i have chronic RISP. if i get a bad RISP i feel as if i am being sucked into hell by demons lol . ( and im not religious) and a light one makes me feel like my soul is slipping out of my body in a clumsy weird way. and when i wake form something like this i feel electrical surges across my brain for a bit . i have not really talked to a doctor to much about it and the one time i did all he could say is ..ooooh. you get sleep paralysis ? scarey huh ? and laughs . he sounded more intrigued than concerned. anyway hope this points you in some more directions . its probably connected in some way . and if you DO feel like demons are carrying you to hell or you are soul slipping one night dont worry you will be ok :P
