I had horrible pain during and after the procedure. I was not given anything to put me to sleep. I was given valume to relax me and 1 vicodin for pain. It was very painful. After I got home I was sick to my stomach for 5 hours. I called the Doctor and he said if it did not get better in another half hour to go to the emergency room for a shot of morphine. I would never had done this procedure if I had know it would be so painful.

I had the NovaSure ablation procedure done yesterday. So far everything has been fine. I haven't had any pain and only minimal discharge. The procedure itself was quick and painless. They did the d & c and scanned my uterus and then did the novasure. I have to say I feel great and have only had to take some advil for minimal cramping. The only thing I don't like is the stupid stockings they are making me wear to prevent a blood clot. Other than that is was a good experience. I will keep you informed on how it helps with my periods. :-D :-D

I also have my procedure done on Friday, 24th. I had a lot of cramping because I did not take it easy on Saturday or Sunday. I returned to work Monday cramping severly. A few Midols cleared that up. I was given some antibiotics and Loratabs for pain. Today is Tuesday and I am bleeding mildly. I beleive it is from not resting. I am a Southerner, so I work in my yard a lot. However, I do not regret having this procedure done.
I guess it boils down to knowing your doctor and having confidence in his or her abilities. I have known my Ob/Gyn for seven years. He explained the best and worst case senerio for me. Ultimately, he said it was my decision. It was the best decision I had ever made. I had never cramped or had heavy bleeding until I had my tubes tied. I had been contemplating on having an hysterectomy. My doctor gave me other options include hormones. I did not want any hormornes or a hysterectomy. I have read a lot of you all comments and experiences.
Please research your doctor and asks questions! Don't have this procedure done in the doctor office or awake! If your doctor suggests it, then you need to run in the other direction!

After dealing with horrible cramps and clots for 10+ yrs I was stupid to believe that the only option I had was a hysterectomy. I found a new GYN and at my first visit I was thrilled to learn that there was a way for me to be "normal". I had my NovaSure procedure done yesterday outpt at an ambulatory surgery center in her office. It was done under a heavy sedation and I don't remember a thing! I was awake within 20 min. The pain afterward was a little intense at times but with the pain meds I was able to cope (plus I just kept telling myself that I could deal with the cramps one more time if it meant that they wouldn't ever be back). I have had minimal discharge/bleeding but I have been taking it easy. I am due for my normal cycle in 1 wk...I have my fingers crossed that I am one of the lucky ones that this works for! If I had to do it again I would just for the chance of things being better! XD

i had my procedure on 06-17-09 after finding out about ablation surgery a few months before that. i didn't think anything like this would be offered to me because of my age although i am done having kids. i have had painful and extremely heavy periods since i was 10 yrs old. i am now almost 38 yrs old, married , two kids, hubby had a vasectomy 6 yrs ago. i agree that it is something that should not be taken lightly, i knew for a fact that my gyn is an experienced surgeon but i still asked how she had trained for this type of procedure and how many she had done, etc.
My mom suffered with hemorrages for many years due to fibroids (could not have a hysterectomy due to congestive heart failure and the risk of dying during surgery due to her weakened heart) . She ended up having an "embolization" surgery with local anesthesia. It is somewhat similar to ablation and she never got her period again, that was 5 years ago, she is now 57 yrs old and doing just fine. I figured if that worked for her then ablation will probably work for me.
i researched extensively on the internet and knew all of the complications except for colon perforation, still i was very scared and had to pray constantly that morning. i am hoping that all goes well as i am only 6 days post op. i had a d & c due to a uterine polyp and the Novasure ablation, 30 minutes total. i was put under through general anesthesia which is the only way i think this should be done!! i had bad cramps afterward, they gave me percocet/tylenol with codeine for the pain but i don't like the feeling so i stuck with regular tylenol as of day 2. the only thing is i still have some back pain which started from day 1 and the odor and brownish discharge is foul which i rarely heard anyone else mention so tomorrow i will call my gyn and try to go see her just to make i don't have any infections. i really hope this works to completely eliminate my period, but if i end up with light periods that last less than 7 days it'll be better than what i had to deal with before.

I gain 30 lbs since my ablation May, 2008. I have been beating myself up trying to figure out what I did to cause this to happen, because I really didn't change anything. After talking with a co-worker who had an ablation as well, I looked up this topic and find many of us in the same situation. I am so upset about this..it was never mentioned that weight gain is a side-effect. I selected the ablation instead of the hysterectomy because I had always heard of weight gain following hysterectomy. I would have lived with my situation until menopause...if I had known!

I am so confused. I've had heavy periods for 2 years and have been ill for the past 2 years as well due to anemia which I've always had but the heavy periods have made things worse. I have switched primary care physicians because the last one said there was nothing wrong with me, " I was just going to be like that". My current physician listened to me, ran a couple of tests, informed me that I was not producing as blood as I needed and asked me if I was having heavy periods, etc. (this Doctor is a God Send), I was feeling better within a month or so. My new Doctor also recommended that I have an ablation due the heavy periods (loss of blood) and told me to discuss it with my GYN. I did some research to find out what this procedure is and found a few different types and it appeared that Novasure would be the best way to go in lieu of having a hysterectomy. I've read through a few different sites like this one and now I'm not so sure that the Novasure procedure is the right one because of my fibroids, although it may a little too late for me. The Dr. tried to do the procedure in June 09 but couldn't because my fibroids were too large. I was given a shot of lupron depot to reduce the fibroids and am now scheduled to have (try) the procedure again in August. Has anyone out there had the Novasure procedure done with fibroids and was it effective? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

In response to the Kmartini note, I had my ablation procedure on 04/02/09. In my opinion it was a success. I am diag with multiple large fibroids and at the time was suffering from abnormal bleeding in the excess of 25 days. I am pre menopausal, I do not have periods but once a year due to a screw up from a oophorectomy due to large ovarian cyst. So this situation was alarming. It was supposed to help me to become more fertile but back fired and lead me into menopause at the early age of 35. In addition to this my fibriods have continued to grew at an alarming rate. My doctor took the chance and to me it worked. I had some smelly watery d/c and cramping for about 3 weeks but afterwards I felt fine. No bleeding or cramps. I have put on some weight but am in the process of losing it by becoming more active and eating correctly. The surgery does tire you out at first but once you heal, you will get your energy back and should be able to lose the weight.

Laritea - Thanks so much for your response, I feel better about my decision. I know that everyone is different but about how long did it take you to get back to your normal energy level? About how long before you went back to work?
Thanks again!!
Thanks again!!

Kmartini- I had the ablation done last year and am so happy I did. I have always had very heavy periods, 7 days a month, and I took iron because I would become anemic. I would use a super plus tampon and a pad and still would have accidents. My mom and sisters are the same way. My mom and 3 of my sisters have had hysterectomies with my younger sister having hers in her 20s. (I also have endometerosis.) Last may (2008) I began bleeding and didn't stop for weeks. I thought I was hemmoraging. My dr. tried me on a hormone prescription to slow the bleeding down but it didn't help. An ultrasound showed polyps in my uterus. My doctor did a d and c, removed the polyps and did the novosure. I had a normal recovery and have not had any bleeding for over a year. No more periods!!! I was 39 when I had it done and it has changed my life. I just wish this proceedure had been available for my mom and sisters. I had it done in the hospital with a general anesthsia and was home a few hours later. I had a watery, light pink discharge for a few weeks but once that stopped I was fine. I also had some very, very minor cramping. My doctor is great and I'm sure that helps. I am a nurse and I chose the ob/gyn that other physicians use. She has done this proceedure on other dr.s and if they trust her I can too. The proceedure itself is simple and doesn't take long. I wish you luck and hope it works for you as well as it did for me.

I am scheduled for a Novasure procedure August 13th. I'm 43, very active (lift weights, etc), slightly overweight ... and having some wicked periods. They were FINE until I went off the pill 15 months ago -- due to an increase in blood pressure and migraines. I thought that I was just going to have to put up with this heavy flow until menopause. I found out yesterday that I have a uterine polyp, 1 CM, and that's causing the grief. So ... Novasure August 13. My doctor did a vaginal ultrasound and also a biopsy of my uterine wall to make sure that all is well beforehand. He is one of the top gynecologists in the midwest and I have total faith in him. I will post my outcome on here after I have it done. Thanks to everyone for posting their experiences; it's helping me become better prepared as the "big day" approaches.

I had this procedure yesterday in the late afternoon. I would advice a morning appointment if you can get it especially if you are anemic. So far so good. I had very good doctor. He is a surgent not just a gynocologist. I think that is important. I had been able to control my pain with just ibuprofen. The D & C I had in January was more painful. I hope this works because I really do not want to have a hystorectomy and at 51 doctors are quick to recomend this but I also can't keep bleeding so much every month. I glad I read the other's experiences because I was about to chicken out. My husband has been very supportive througout this. He took off from work to be home with me while I recover. I plan to go in late tomorrow it I feel up to it. I am mostly tired not really in pain. I think that comes from going so long with out eating the day before. I will try to check-in in a month or so to update. Thanks to all that help me make my decision.

I have the Novasure done three days ago and I am thrilled so far. I didn't have to take one pain pill so far, just have a mild discharge which is brownish red. I am hoping that I continue with the good luck. I went to work the day after the surgery and just felt a little tired and had a headache. I am excited to see what happens when it comes time for my regular period. I am hoping it is less and I will be thrilled. I do work out and don't want to push it so I am going to take it easy and not overdue it.

I had this done on July 24, 2009. I didn't really have any complications at all, downside was the pain involved in the procedure. Holy cow. I had about 3 days, and then I started discharging some yellowish thick liquid. Does anyone know if this is normal? And how long will I have to wear a pad to control the discharge?

I am considering the Novasure procedure. I just had the D & C and my Dr. told me I was the perfect candidate.
I am shocked to read some of the testimonials. My Dr. told me I was a perfect candidate because I had not the medical issues that some of you, who have horror stories have had. I would never consider having this procedure if I was still in my child baring years.
It even states that on the Novasure website. My Dr. would absolutely not do this anywhere but a surgical center and with full anestesia, no acceptions. I am in complete and absolute agreement that the pharmaceutical and medical companies that make these instruments should be held liable. BUT, what is wrong with the Dr's who have performed this procedure on you poor patients where something went terribly wrong?? My Dr. explained this proceudre to me and did a D & C to make sure I was a good candidate. She checked my uterus to make sure she knew what it looked like, how big it was, measured it and she even mentioned that it didn't work on a heart shaped uterus. Obviously this procedure, like all procedures, is not for every one, that is for your Dr. to determine and it sounds like your Dr's did not give you the best advise. Shame on them, every one makes mistakes but this sounds like bad advise from your DR. talk to a lawyer. I'll let you know how mine turns out.
