I have endometriosis and was given the mirena coil to try and treat it. The symptoms of endometriosis is heavy periods, severe period pains, bloating, sickness in some people, clotted periods etc. It depends on the person to how they react but these are the general symptoms. There is not a prevention, only treatment as it is something that cannot be cured. I was given diathermy which is laser treatment, to zap away any endometriosis. The cause of it is; when a woman has a period all of the lining of the womb comes out as a period, however people with endometiosis instead of it all coming out some of the tissue travels up and attaches itself to things such as the bladder, Fallopian tubes, bowels things like that. Now every month you get a period these bits of tissue that have travelled up will also bleed. It can make the insides become 'sticky' and can eventually start to cause cysts. I hope this has helped.
