this may sound odd as many woman seem to be experiencing the same problem i have too except the fact that i am male of 38 years

I too have been to the doctor with test being ran and the outcome nothing can be found or i'm normal. I dont believe being bloated

for hours and hours and in constant discomfort and looking like i have a basketball under my shirt is normal. the relief i get is when i sleep in the

morning the bloating subsizes but within hours its back to having a basketball. i have tried everything and nothing works. i'm always tired and falling asleep at home and sometimes to tired to drive. dizzy spells occur a few times a day. am i the only man going through this?!!! i'm in desperate need of relief as this has been going on for years. one doctor told me its IBS but i dont know anymore. any information will be greatfully appreciated..please do not think this is a joke i am a man apparently having the same syptoms as these ladies.

I am a 50 year old female with the same problem.  My stomach is so bloated that i look pregnant.  Due to my huge stomach my back and chest hurts and I feel tired all the time.  I had a blood and urine test and they could find nothing wrong.  I have gained 15 pounds over the past few months.  I was given diuretics and started taking fibers but this did not help.  The bloating disrupts my physical and emotional life and I will keep trying to be rid of this condition.  Thanks for comments - will try them.

I am 44 year old male.  Been pretty active and fit most of my life.  Last 4 years I have been a soccer referee and lost weight, have great stamina, and am pretty fit.  But this past February I began getting a bloated feeling after eating, and my stomach is bulging out especially after meals and looks like I am pregnant (my kids laugh).  It is a terrible feeling (the bloating) and is getting worse.  Had a checkup a month ago but did not mention it.  I really started just after my checkup.  I am also gaining weight despite my healthier diet.  My wife says it's old age and shrinking metabolism.  Sounds much like most of the posts I've read so far.  I'm betting the doctors will misdiagnose or not find anything.

This week I starting eating Avtivia yogurt, more fruit, salads, rice and fish and avoiding bread.  I read this on internet about better diets to prevent bloating feeling.  I am very interested to hear about this cleansing or elimination diet someone posted.  I have feared all kids of ailments such as a parasite or worms or cancer or cists but just not sure.  Anxious for the spring season to start and get more running in.

This stomach looks out of place though for a fit soccer referee.

You should try to go gluten free and request a celiac blood test. If you have gluten issues (which is wheat, barley, flour) that can cause immediate bloating and feel ill for days, bowel issues, malnurished and so much more, also your body can ache all over. Just something you can try, but if you try to go gluten free and plan on doing a test I would wait on removing gluten as the test will come out negative. You have to have gluten in your system for the test to work. Good Luck everyone!

Two weeks ago I took pictures and measurements for a online fitness contest. My waist was 24.75" circumference and hips were 33". Last Wednesday night I went out to eat with a friend, I had boiled broccoli and cauliflower, dinner rolls with hummus,
Bronzino (1st time ever having it) wild mushroom rissoto and we split a creme brulle and Chocolate mouse. That night my stomach was bloated and full and I was in pain, I had assumed I ate too much and that it was just indigestion. I didn't get to sleep until around 3pm. The next morning I had a bowel movement and feeling "less full" I felt better. I proceeded to get dressed for work and then out of nowhere I felt awful, lethargic, freezing, shaking, I went right to bed and sleep through as much as I could. about 24 hours later I was having body aches but I was no longer freezing, I was bloated from Pelvic through sternum. My waist now measured 33" and it looked as if I was 7 months pregnant. I had diarrhea, then constipation with tons of foul foul foul smelling gas. I took, fiber, stool softeners, laxatives, gas x...rinse and repeat. after 4 days of this huge amount of bloat and lethargy I went to the med merge where the Dr. did a rectal exam. He said give it a couple more days and if the symptoms didn't go down consult with a Gastro Dr.  I noticed that the bloating was the same regardless of if I ate a lot of food or no food at all. I went from 107lbs to 122lbs within a few days. The skin seemed tight stretched and rubbery, I am not sure how to explain it but the skin where I am bloated seems to be very thick in comparison to my regular skin. Monday I called my GE who had performed Gall bladder removal on me 2 years ago. He ordered a full abdomen and pelvic ultrasound. Tuesday I did my Ultrasounds. Yesterday I went to work regardless of how tired I was and I went to the gym to walk on the treadmill for an hour. It seemed to me that the bloat was shifting downwards like the my upper abdomen was starting to be less swollen, however my lower abdomen below my belly button was even more swollen and protruding. This morning I measured and my weight was down to 118.2, waist was 28"  and the largest part under my belly button was 32".  I got my ultrasound results and they said everything looked great except for a cycts on my right ovary which my GE suggests I follow up with my OBGYN.

I am concerned with what could be the cause of this and what is going on with my body. If anyone has experienced this or knows what this might be I would love to know. I am going to meet with my GE on Monday and he will examine me and see if further blood tests are needed, but for the time being I am trying to get a handle on what this is, what may have caused this and what to do to get back to normal??

Your post is a year ago........any updates? I have the same problem as you and rajmlb and you posted and it keeps getting worse. Wikipedia lists 16 possible causes, from cirrhosis to lactose intolerance to constipation to ulcers and more. They say swallowed air is most frequent. But none of these symptoms seem to apply to me. My dr. said it's just fat. I don't exercise as much as I used to, but this is just too extreme. Help!

My doctor prescribed a medicine commonly used to treat acid reflux.  Said it sounds odd but should help my symptoms.  It has been helping.  I think it reduces acid in stomach.  Called Omeprazole 20mg.  I have to take it daily for a month then see how I'm doing.  For over 3 weeks now have not had any bloating.  Good luck everyone.

I too have the same problem - I exercise 6 days a week for a total of 180 minutes/week. I just got weighed at the gym and gained 2 pounds for the month - but I lost 8.5 inches. None of these inches were from my abdominal area. - whenever I eat anything at all (be it a few crackers, etc), my stomach and abdomen extend tremendously making me feel very uncomfortable and awlful about myself. I eat very healthy, lots of fruits and vegetables, grains in my daily diet. Do not eat meat of any kind as I am no fond of the taste of meat. I eat lots of cheese which I love. Need protein from some of these food groups. Can anyone help me to understand what is going on with my stomach and abdomen. I am 5'2" tall and weight 174 lbs.
