Does anyone know how long the wait is for the procedure at Mayo Az after the consultation?

The best tjing to do is contact them . They will walk you through the procedure. There is more involved than setting up an appointment. Dont worry about the procedure , It is not bad at all. just me

Dear friend,
It has ben a great pleasure for me to resolve you the problem. I believe the HOLEP is the best option to prostate operation.
Yours sincerely,
Dr. Alfonso Santos

Hi all. I thought it might be worth an update on my HOLEP carried-out last May in the UK. Hopefully it will help re-assure anyone having dounbs about the surgery. I had a 3-month review with my surgeon last August. A flow-rate test went off the chart (literally!) much to the surprise of Mr Aho. Ultrasound showed no urinary retention. I had about 85% of my prostate core removed and this weighed around 115gm. I was told to have a PSA test done after a few months to get a base level as cancer tends to occur near the shell which is left in place. Today's result was a PSA of 0.4 so no problems currently. Since August last year I have had no problems whatsoever. My flow rate has reduced slightly but remains very good. My occasional surge leakage stopped a few months back. So, I may have been very lucky but for me it has been 100% success.

Thanks to Steven in Philly and Sleepless in Seattle for sharing their experiencs.  I had HoLEP on 2/3/15 and appear to be on the same path with UI.  Comforting to know that there is an endpoint.  I will update as I progress.

Glad to he;lp Big. Where did yiu have it done? and, if yiu are covered by Medicare, I highly recommend that yiu schedule one or two sessions with biofeedback to make sure you are doing the Kegels right. Allow a few months and you'll be so glad yiu had the surgery.

I haven't yet but I am going to arrange for a meeting with Dr. Das. Never knew about him until this reading info from this site.

Sorry, I confused you with Big500. May I suggest that you choose a screen name and log in with that. It's virtually anonymous and we can call yiu by that. Glad yoiu are seeing Dr. Das. He is great as is Jeff. He knows I'm on this group so you can just say "Steve" says hi. And schedule now. He gets pretty booked (but worth it IMHO). And yiu won't have to fly to Philly

My HoLEP was done by Dr. James Sloan at Methodist in Indianapolis on 2/3/15.  It is now 2 weeks after surgery.  At this time I have no pain and no bleeding.  I am still as incontinent as the days following surgery.  For me the UI is primarily when walking; no problems lying, sitting, or standing still.  I do not wear a pad when sleeping.  I have been doing a set of 10-12 kegels 3 times per day since 4 days post-op.

Great Big500 - Sounds like doing good. No, yiu rarely - if ever - have IC until yiu stand up. And yiu probably aren't getting up much at night now that surgery is done. Yep, you'll need the pads for a few months but they are just there "in case". Keep checkimng in with updates. Welcome to the world of after-HoLEP relief! ;-)

Week 3 post HoLEP.  After passing no blood for several days I had bloody urine in the morning for 2 days - urine the rest of the day(s) was clear.  This appeared to be the result of passing scab tissue.  Now all clear again.  Still UI when walking.  Maybe some improvement with UI, but it could be that I a managing it better.  Still doing kegels 3x day.  So far I am glad I had the surgery - urinating is a joy.

Sounds like yiu are right on track Big500. Yes, it doesn't happen overnight - it'll be 3 months but, boy, it's sure worth it! Alsdo sounds like yiu have the kegels under control. Just keep wearing the pads (actually they are not intrusive) for a while longer. I never actually had "accidents" but felt better knowing they were there. And, check back weekly to let us know how you're doing.
