My daughter 23 yrs old had a tonsillectomy done June 25, 2009, due to chronic tonsilitis. It's been almost 3 months, her throat is more narrow now then before due to scar tissue and she has trouble breathing at night, sometimes she has to tilt her head all the way back and gasp for air. She went back to the ENT doctor a few days ago and he says this is normal. That the scar tissue will stretch. What is she suppose to do until then, what if she stops breathing, I even called the doctors office and expressed my concern (my daugher gave them permission to talk to me) they wont return my call. She didnt have any problems breathing before the surgery. Need Advise
Call anyone you can tlak to about this! I don't know why they didn't return your call but make sure that they know that she has some issues. Do not stop until someone looks at your daughter's throat, okay? That is critical!

If she is not satisfied with the response she got then she should seek another opinion. I would strongly recommend that happen, especially after this period of time. She should be well on the way to recovery. Unfortunately, scar tissue can and does occur with any surgery and it can cause complications.

I know you're her mother but you are going to have trouble getting any healthcare provider to talk to you about her condition, permission or not. HIPPA rules tend to scare all healthcare workers.

Good luck.

Dear Concerned

Sorry to hear that your daughter's having so many problems. Its not nice when someone doesn't return your calls.

Have you considered visiting an entirely new doctor and specialist for a second opinion? There's no rules that say you have to stick with a particular practitioner if you're not happy.

Regards, Olwen

You need to accompany your daughter to go see another doctor to get a second opinion. Her current doctor apparently doesn't care.

As a mother and an ex patient of a TERRIBLE doctor, I want you to stop seeing him and go to either your regular doctor ASAP OR even an Emergency Department! IT has been known to be VERY severe health wise, when an older person has a tonsillectomy, but this is TERRIBLE the way you and your daughter have been treated. IF you feel something's wrong - there IS something wrong! I tell everyone, Do NOT accept mediocre or terrible service when it is dealing with either yourself or your loved ones health!!! So get her some proper treatment - she might even need the scar tissue to be removed - and let me tell you, scar tissue is a hard and thick residue from surgery, I have NEVER heard of it stretching and even if that was possible, how can she stretch this scar tissue at the back of her throat!!!!!!! :-S So always go with your gut or I like to call it "Spidey Sense" and demand more for your girl OK? Good luck and health to both of you, and please let me know how she makes out OK?

I totally agree with this! I know people seem to think they have to stick with a doctor, but that's not the case. Have you ever switched doctors? I know I have.
