good news for the future they are developing a drug to help people who cant break down
acetaldyhide(the fist chemical that breaks down from alchol)
if you cant break down acetaldyhide you will get a red face and rapid heart rate
im suspecting i and others here suffer from this
half of all asians get this becase of a dna thing
but im suspecting maby like type 2 diabetes
normal people can develop this when they get older
or you can have it from the get go
think about it
most of the people here developed this problem after 30
or had it very young 19 or 20
so ethir you have it or you can develop it later on
rapter phamacuticals is working on a drug for this
its for treating aldehyde hydrogenase definicy syndrome look it up i think
thats probably whats going on with the most of us
that acetaldehyde is very toxic when i builds up and flushing and rapid heartbeat are the main symptoms
tell me what you guys think

My guess is the culprit is gluten. It's in beer, liquer and wine. It's also in practically everything we eat except fresh, raw foods. I have just had the week from hell with rapid heartbeat, stomach indigestion, light headed, etc. I heard Elisabeth Hasselbeck on the Joy Behar show the other night how she self diagnosed herself as having an intolerance to gluten. It's sad what manufacturers can get away with. The stress, anxiety, fear & discomfort they inflict, not to mention the health care industry running tests, prescribing drugs and charging us a fortune and it's as simple as eliminating gluten from our diets!
Hey guys, 27 years old male here who has viewed this topic countless amount of times. I'm finally going to see my doctor on Wednesday for this. I drink about once a month on weekends only. I usually drink 6-10 beers per night if not beers it will be Vodka mixed with Coke Zero.
In any case, I always wake up in the middle of the night with my chest pounding. It scares the living c**p out of me. I took my blood pressure and my heart rate was clocked at 120BPM. I am just worried that this is damaging my heart to the point of no return. Like everyone else, it's great to relax and get a good buzz with friends and family. However, if this will lessen my time on earth, I think it's pretty obvious what choice I have to make.
Anyways, I'm an asian male as well. I also get the pins and needles usually the day afterwards. The heart rate thing starts from right before I am about to go to sleep and then up until the very next morning. This means that my heart is going at 120+BPM for several hours and this scares the c**p out of me.
Sometimes after I eat a large meal (this is when I am not even drinking) during the day, my heart rate increases as well. I'm not sure if there is a connection with the alcohol related rapid heart beat but I'm going to talk to my doctor on Wednesday.
Another thing is I try to drink as much water as I can (of course being careful about water as too much is not good either) and also eating a meal before going to bed. Unfortunately there are times that I have to use Advil prior to going to bed. I do understand the risk that I'm taking, especially the risk of my liver going to c**p.
In any case, glad to see this thread is still going.

I experience this once in a while, normally only comes on after a hangover day. For example if I drank a bunch (10-15 drinks) one night, then am hung over the next day and "drink off the hangover" . I'm sure its partially dehydration, but for me at least its part sleep apnea. I have sinus issues & they are always worse when I've been drinking, so I've found that if i use a neti pot & really clear them out & can breath well through my nose I have not ever had this happen.
Also I never have this happen if I have a good workout the day of. a good 30 - 60 min of cardio & that night I always sleep like a baby, regardless of drinking.

I get the same thing 23yr male for the past 4 years this has been happening. With me its the night and the day after drinking I get racing heart and chest pain and sometimes palpatations. I have had anxiety since i was 17 and dont take any meds for it. like all you its affecting my social life and its scaring me. I recently tried an anti acid before drinking the next day symptoms were not as bad also keeping hydrated is key. The drunker I get the worse the next day symptoms are (fast heart rate, chest pain, and get out of breath quikly) theres gotta be an answer for this...
I used to have this similar problem and usually ignored it. Well..until I went to Tibet. High altitude, alcohol and this fast heart beating, which had been going on for months, when drinking (and I was a heavy beer drinker). Luckily I was down in Kathmandu, when I got so severe pains in my chest, I couldnt move properly anymore. I assume it was heart muscle inflammation, but for a week, I could hardly move or talk. Altogether the pains and the irregular heart beating that started after, lasted at least a month. Well...also, I decided to avoid the Nepalese hospitals, as I was sure Id get killed, even with Western treatment. I felt so fragile even a feather was a threat.
Now, this is 5 months ago, and I rarely rarely drink these days. The experience - I assume - was likely life threatening, but none the less, highly traumatic.
So I do not recommend alcohol on high altitude with these syndromes.

I'm pretty sure its related to caffine and stress as well. I've noticed this has happened to me recently, but I also just started drinking coffee (2 cups) in the morning a few months ago. I also drink diet coke and sometimes energy drinks in the afternoon. I only drink alchohol on the weekends and the heavier I drink the worse the problem gets. I am hoping the following 4 things will resolve the problem.
1. Significantly cut down or eliminate caffine
2. Drink plenty of water. Especially when you plan on partying that night.
3. Try to get a normal 8 hours of sleep.
4. Try to get in 30-60 minutes of excercise at least 3 times per week.

The first time I got the alcohol-induced heart racing was in 2008. I was 40 years old. It started around 5 am and I thought I was having a heart attack. The cardiologist at the hospital said my heart was fine and that I experienced “party heart.” I am in good health with good blood pressure.
Since then, I have experienced this phenomenon a few more times. It always happens between 2 and 4am and goes away in about 30 minutes.
The primary cause for me is definitely heavy drinking in the evening. The more I drink, and the later I do it, the more likely my heart will race when I am sleeping.
The other night I had two 24oz Steel Reserve beers and 3 Miller High Life Lite beers within a 5 or 6 hour period. The last drink was around 9pm. I also ate a ton of pizza (beer makes me hungry) and not much water. Maybe 2 glasses. I went to bed at midnight (still buzzed) and sure enough, my heart was beating fast at 3am.
Something that other people haven’t mentioned here is that I get hot when this happens.
If I turn to my side and take off my covers, I cool down and can go back to sleep, even though my heart is still beating fast. Now that I have experienced it before, I don’t freak out but it is still an uncomfortable feeling.
I am going to reduce my coffee intake, drink more water, reduce the amount I drink, and (when I do drink) try to stop drinking at least 4 hours before going to bed.
If this works and I don't have any episodes for a few months, I will report back.

helloooooooo your heart beats fast when you are dehydrated. alcohol dehydrates you. bingo. you have less circulating fluid, which brings on low blood pressure and a fast heartbeat to make up for it. alcohol is a toxin to the body. either driink less, or alternate water with alcohol throughout the night
23 male. i went to the doc in high school about heart issues. they did stress tests and all that. they thought i was anxiety, but he asked if i drank and i said oh yeah very often. i was just dehydrated. my heart would pound all day. i was also taking caffine pills, dumb on my part because i didnt need them. between sports and exercise i didnt have the fluids i needed with all the booze. started to slam water and not consume so much garbage and i calmed down, i also used a heating pad and that helped a little and tried to change my schedule and lower my stress level. i would do more water or sure ill probably have 15 plus beers but i make sure that i hydrate too and have the multi vids the next day and take care of myself. alcohol is a diuretic so your gonna be hittin the pisser a lot so you would have essential fluids and then the next day your gonna have a drum line in your head. hope it helps but thats me and im not a doctor
I also suffer from this condition. Just found this article by CNN

recently i keep getting really bad heart palpitations but i've been getting them whilst i'm drunk not after drinking. they are so so painful and i find it difficult to breathe. i cant find anything on the internet about palpitations whilst drinking and just wanted to know if anyone knew anything or if it's the same reasons as whilst drinking . it's really ruining my nights out and worrying myself and my friends.

I had this for years, and have recently discovered that if I take an anti-allergy/hayfever pill a few hours before I go drinking then it doesn't occur.
Could be an allergic reaction to alcohol?
Could be an allergic reaction to alcohol?
Hi All, I have had this for years, and I found this explanation on another website which explains it well:
as you drink alcohol, you increase your blood sugar levels, as you sleep, this sugar level drops. The adrenal glands kick in when your blood sugar drops and wake you up.
Sometimes, if you eat something with carbohydrates or sugar (i.e. a sandwich or warm milk with sugar or honey) the body gets the sugar it needs, the adrenaline goes down, you relax and then can go back to sleep.
Hope this helps! I also try mediation/controlling my breathing and it works for me sometimes. But its nothing to get too stressed about, which would just make it worse!
Happy drinking!
