I have this too.  It feels like there is an air bubble in your throat, but you can't burp.  Doesn't hurt, but it's annoying??  It called GERD. Enjoy.

in response to the "stop eating gluten" idea:

I am grain free (for months now, i.e. no gluten) and I still encounter this problem. seems to be getting worse, generally when i try to sleep at night. the air bubble never goes away! and when i can manage to burp, it just comes right back.

It's GERD. I have had GERD for about five years and this feeling comes and goes. It's like a pressure in your throat right above the hollow of your throat. If you press there it gets worse. Some times if you burp it relieves the pressure for a short time but then it comes back. The acid has backed up and damaged your esophagus and it has caused that muscle to contract. There's no acid feeling because the contracted muscle is holding in down. It's worse at night because lying horizontal causes gravity to take effect and allow things to natural back up making the muscle contract even more to try to hold it down. Lying on your right side and slightly elevated helps because gravity forces the stomach contents through the natural course of your digestive system. You can also temporarily relieve the pressure by pressing your thumbs just under your chin behind your chin bone hold it for 30 seconds, then while still pressing tip your head back until you are looking straight up and your neck is fully extended you will feel the muscle start to relax at that point remove your thumbs from pressing into the chin and hold this position for another 30 seconds. The pressure will get worse while you are counting but once you straighten your head up it releases that muscle and you get temporary relief. I think you are using the pressure points to relax that muscle. Burping will also allow for temporary relief because burping aids in the digestive process and forces the contents of your stomach down. Like a pressure valve. Controlling your GERD and your acid reflux is the only thing that will give you long term relief. If you are currently being treated for GERD mention this to your doctor they may need to change the dosage on your meds. If you are being treat led for acid reflux make sure that you mention this to your doctor because they may need to diagnose you with GERD and change your meds. Remember you can have acid reflux without having GERD, but acid reflux is a symptom of GERD. I understand acid reflux to be the first stage of GERD. Some people can control it before it ever progresses to being officially GERD. Hope this helps a little and at least gives you comfort for what you are feeling but over the counter meds will only work for so long. You need to talk to your dr and get some meds and a health plan to control it.

This is exactly what is happening to me! I found last night if i throw up it helps it go away and i am able to go to sleep. Before I was afraid to sleep i would make my boyfriend stay up with me or until i went to sleep he then could go to sleep. I feel as if i am being a big baby because I want him to hold me!

I had this problem 6 months ago and searched the internet a long time. It appeared to be acid reflux and so I took nexium for 14 days. It worked!!! The burping feeling went away and the pressure above my adams apple went away. I just started experiencing it again in the last few days and I am back on Nexium. Expect it to go away shortly. Hope this helps.

Went searching for help and this site. I have this problem my acid reflux is under control, but I wake up with this need to burb. Yes like I have a balloon in mt throat, feeling like if I could just burb. At the same time my heart is beating hard. I have drinking herbal tea can bring burbs also standing, moving around. I drink chamomile and ginger tea and chamomile and lavender tea. Iced or hot. I'd prefer black tea but I'm tired of this. So glad there are others with the same/ similar problem
