I don't know what's wrong with me either. I've been to the doctor and e.r. they told me it's likely acid reflux or stress. I woke up at 3 am this morning from a dream I don't remember. The way I woke up it felt like I was about to go into a seizure. My throat felt like it was closing and it was hard to breathe normally. I felt a little disoriented and have a pretty stiff neck. The throat closing feeling lasted for about half an hour or so. The other symptoms I've been having on and off are: chest pressure, chest pains, loss of appetite, dizziness, lump in throat, overall fatigue. All these strange symptoms started on the first day of the new year. I keep thinking it's an allergic reaction to something. I was on nasal spray for a few months and realized I was taking the wrong nasal spray, not what I was prescribed. I was taking it for ear pressure and sinus problems, not sure if that's a factor in all this. All these weird symptoms happened about 20 days ago. Now I'm thinking it could be gerd, because I tend to get the terrible throat tight feelings if I eat something unhealthy or something with a lot of cheese. It just seems odd to me that I have so many symptoms. To top it off I haven't had coffee in 5 days and am going through withdrawals, but I'm afraid it might be a trigger if it is gerd.

Hope this is helpful.
I had a coughing infection caught from grandchildren. Could not stop coughing. Stayed around for 4 weeks and just before finished as still coughing my throat closed over and I felt I could not breath.
I went to hospital - they said that I would not die from it as it is a natural thing for the body to breathe.
Scared the heck out of me - making me panick though.
I do wake up if eat late at night - sometimes from horrible food acid but not frequent - cure eat early.
I think you can have some skin removed from the throat if you have too much - see dr.
Another thing is apnea. I have a mouth gaurd that will push your lower jaw back which stops the apnea. opens up the throat. Good luck

Wow, I honestly felt like I was the only person in the world with these symptoms. I've been dealing with this for at least 7+ years now. It was quite startling at first when I would wake up feeling like I can't breathe. It would have me up all night long, and still does sometimes depending on what Ive done that day. I have acid reflux, and I know it's somehow related. I did some lifestyle changes as far as not eating 3-4 hours before bed, not eating certain foods that aggregates my acid reflux, and drinking plenty of water daily. I found out it was worse when I gained a little extra weight. I workout daily now and I'm into bodybuilding now. Now the only thing that bothers me is the protein shakes I drink several times a day because I guess it somehow messes with my acid reflux.

You can pray and take anything with acid reflux medication as well as apply cider is good for your health . In Hale warm air or take hot baths will help the swelling . I also have a similar problem but at night my throat swells up like someone it holding it shut tight and Scare's me too but then I'll pray and keep praying and it will calm down .. sometimes we may not get the answers right away it's up to God when he is ready but always has a purpose why we go through these issues but it's for his glory .. I'll pray for you and never give up keep praying in faith .. Philippines 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

I started getting the same about 2 months ago. Like I forgot how to swallow. I have to first clear my throat before I can start to relax and try to swallow. Scaring me a lot. Not sure if I have sinus infection or something wrong with the sinus's. It will happen day and evening. I have started chocking on my own saliva at times. I am 62 years old and in rather decent shape.

Laryngospasm?
I'm trying to figure it out for myself. My husband would mock me calling me a hypochondriac saying I have issues about choking. I would say yes... I like to breathe. He couldn't understand why I had this problem once in a while. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night frantically gasping for air but I had the worst episode last night before bed while I was awake. I was washing my face. Thought that was my final breath. Couldn't breathe in or out. Anyway I do notice that it happens sporadically if I am eating chocolate, things that are vinegary like salad dressing or has a citric component (lemon/limes). So I'm figuring it's an acid reaction to foods and at night it could be acid re-flux from foods that tickle the larynx and cause a spasm. Now when I eat those kind of foods I am more careful about chewing slowly and swallowing with careful eating. I also make sure I have water nearby in case I need to wash food down. I've been having such a dry mouth lately and that doesn't help to swallow things. I have to drink more water it seems. Just my theory but scary as hell and my husband (now ex) is a jerk for not sympathizing or considering my real condition.

I have experience this twice, last night was the second time this happened in my sleep. I was afraid to lay back down and when I did I propped my head up... I was gasping for breath making this squeaking sound while trying to inhale. I just wanted to know if anyone else has experienced it and what causes it?
