This has only happened to me when I was asleep. I wake up because I am struggling to breathe and it feels like my throat is closing and sometimes it completely closes. The difference is, that I feel paralyzed when it happens. I can't move and so can't reach for a glass of water or even reach over to wake my husband up. I feel completely alone, helpless and terrified. It ALWAYS happens this way with me. I'm always unable to move when it happens. Has anyone ever had this paralysis happen to them?

My throat closed last night i had to go to er because my throat closed while i was eating a pork chop i thought i got a pork chop bone stuck in my throat... It happened before with corn dog a couple years ago... But i have to tell you when your throat closes it feels like you are going to die you go in shock, numb, wheeze, spit up etc... My dr took a biopsy last night with a endoscopy woke up throat still hurting... and today it feels like it is trying to close again...
I also know not pertaining to my situation if you wake up choking at night you need to talk to your dr about sleep apnea...

You should get your thyroid checked for nodules. They need to do an ultrasound to do that. Explain your problem to your primary care doctor and he/she will likely write you an order for an ultrasound.
