Thank you VERY much for all this info. Mine basically started after I recently got sick and I am currently on Amoxicillin and use an acid reducer and an inhaler as well as Robitussin DM but never thought about getting a humidifier. Your information has been quite helpful and we will be vacuuming under our bed and going out tomorrow and buying a humidifier. And I will definitely be using your "pink alligator" reference :) . TYVM!!

I too had bronchitis and took amoxicillan and the problems began. I wake up at least 6 times during the night with difficult breathing. Was diagonosed with acid reflex and prescribed meds. It helped for a while. I've seen two specialist and nothing has improved. I'm hate going to sleep at night because I know it will happen again. I've also tried other things to relieve the pain such as essential oils, vicks vapo-rup, and other things I've seen read on this blog. I am also praying that God will direct me on what to do.

I have the same problem. No one seems to know. I did find that some of my breathing medicine has Steriods in the such as Symicort, and a few other ones I tried and that made it happen more often. I quit Symicort and any other medicine including nasal sprays and I am doing better but still have The problem at times. I just went thru a sleep test and they think a CPAP will help keep the air passage open at night. I don't think any Doctor knows and avoids the problem. Good Luck.

I am having the same problem, right now, and I decided to look online and scare myself silly with all the possibilities. The funny thing is I think I have allergies, as the symptoms just appeared out of nowhere. I took Ricola a couple of times, and now my throat is feeling like it's closing up. I haven't taken it today, but it could be the cause of this. I pray so because I don't have to take another Ricola again if this happens.

You may solve your problem through the night by raising your mattress where your head goes. It helps keep the acid down. It worked for me and it only happens in the day. Cured the nights.

I know this is an old post but wanted to ask you if you've noticed your throat closing in relation to food. My throat closes only when I'm eating, does this happen to you when your not eating? The confusion for me is, my throat closes, and even if it's allergy related, and this is an anaphylactic response, this response isn't known for the things it happens with. IE MSG in sausage, throat closes but if I eat soup with MSG it doesn't. Typically MSG causes headaches not throat closure. Any ideas?
