If you are on ibuprofen or any other pain killer,it is likely to cause acid reflux which can my your throat feel like its closing up. Use Gaviscon to reduce the acid build up and you would feel better,I just tried it now and I feel a lot better , thanks to this forum, I was able to put two and two together . Thank GOD. Good luck

I have had a throat closing sensation for about 6 years now. I have studied many people's responses and testaments on this issue. What some people describe may be GERD or ACID REFLUX, but what I describe is not. Although, the issues and symptoms are common, this is NOT what I have. If you are suffering from what I have coined "Distressed Throat Symptom" (DTS). This is a feeling of something in the throat, but not acid reflux, due to stress on the back, shoulders, and neck and unhealthy lifestyle. Now the reason I say this is because I have had a feeling of something in the throat and sensation on not being able to breathe, but have had numerous upper endoscopies, GI doctor visits, blah blah blah, you name it!! All of them can't figure it out, and no signs of acid reflux. So my current hypothesis is that this is an inflamed muscle in the throat due to external and unhealthy lifestyle choices. I've noticed that when I cut out stress, don't sit in front of a computer all day, or in a car, or drink alcohol, or certain spices and SUGAR, the symptoms subside. I believe its got to be something to do with stress in our posture, aka our neck, shoulders, and back. The stress then causes the muscle in the throat not to work properly and then when we eat something too sugary, alcoholic, spicy, etc... we get the reflux. My suggestion is try to avoid stress on your neck and back and walk after meals, and neglect SUGAR AND ALCOHOL and your symptoms will at least lessen. I will write back on here if I figure out anything more, but please consider these lifestyle changes and maybe get x-rays or your back, neck, and shoulders... could be a pinched nerve back there... Then again maybe I'm figuring out the cause of Acid Reflux in the first place. ;)

One more thing! Try to force out bowel movements whenever possible. Even though it is gross, I think it helps to burp and fart. The gas has got to go somewhere, better out than in. AND avoid caffeine or try to restrict intake. Again this is just my opinion, but all that I have posted has helped extraordinarily, so please feel free to try it and add anything else that works.

OMG. I too have that same problem - the closing of the throat! And, I too have very bad heartburn. It must all be interrelated somehow. Shared that with my physician's staff and was told to gargle w/ salt water!! Thanks for sharing.

I have the same problems for years and the doctor could not figure out what was going on with me. the back of my throat has dropped in esophagus and my tongue has been push forward, to the point my tongue is to big for my mouth. i just recently went to an Otolarynologist, which let me know that my symptom was coming from a sleep disorder (sleep Apnea ) I HOPE THIS HELP YOU, GOOD LUCK IN YOUR HEALTH.

I don't know if I should say "GREAT" I found someone who also has something similar to what I have, but yes I have been getting concerned lately (approximately 3 months now); I've noticed that when I eat I choke on my meals, either a piece of meat or bread including some vegetables, and these pieces are usually on my right side towards the middle of the throat. I literally end up "regurgitating" these pieces of whatever, but what really concerns me is that I can actually feel my throat has shrunken; I also take "omeprazole 20MG" for acid reflux. At present my worry is will this medication that does help me one way might be the cause or Impetus for something else.
