I took a few of warm coffee and felt something go down my throat as if something had fallen in my cup, perhaps a small insect. But after trying to make myself gag and cough it up, it went away. Minutes later, it felt like something small and hard was lodged on the right side of my throat. After two days, I still feel it. But I can still eat and drink. If you find out what it is, please let me know. Thanks.

Wow, I'm so glad to see this isn't really life threatening.  Now that I look back, I'm starting to think it's just a muscle strain for me.  My neck first got swollen when I was sitting in my sports chair, messing around on my laptop.  It happened a second time when I was sitting in a chair at a friends house about to eat.  It was so all of a sudden.  I went to the ER a couple times but ended up leaving because it went away while I was waiting to be seen.  I usually try drinking something when it come up.  Most of the times I burp and pass gas, and even have loose bowels, maybe this is from the anxiety and worrying though.   But thanks guys for sharing, this really helped calm my nerves.  I also prayed about it, maybe that's why I found this discussion.

Not sure this is the same thing but, basically, I have had a stuffy nose and slept with my mouth open, causing me to wake up with an extremely dry mouth. Just now, I was rinsing and really forcing the stuff off the roof of my mouth when suddenly something in the back of my throat came forward a little bit. I now have what feels like the uvula or a bit of tonsil come forward on top of my tongue when I swallow, it feels very much like I have torn something.

Sorry, going to have to chime in here due to all the religious stupidity.

Prayer has no effect on health, or anything. There have been numerous studies proving this. If you really believe it does, I'd think you would have no need for a doctor at all. I mean- the doctor isn't god, right? Sure, you'll probably die, but hey you'll go to heaven right? Pfft.

Lets do this.

Example one: Amputees.
No amputee has ever had a limb regenerate, ever. No matter how hard they prey. This is because prayer does not do anything.

Example two: Apparent cures.
People who pray and have loved ones pray for cancer to be cured, and then DIE- cannot tell you that it didn't work, because they're dead. Likewise, some people who get lucky and have medicine cure their cancer with modern treatments will turn around and say they were spared by god. This is clearly a delusion, as if you truly believed this, you would have never gone to the hospital, and would have died, prayer or not.

Example three: Facts.
The rate at which religious people claim to have prayer cure all ailments combined is the same rate at which a body's natural immune system cures it on it's own. Oh, you did remember that we have one of those, right? And that it's job is to keep you healthy? And people with immune deficiencies DIE without medical help, regardless of prayer.

I'm sorry, I should be a nice guy and let you all have your fantasies, but this is a health website and religion has NOTHING to do with health. In fact, it's surely killed more people than it's helped, a thousand-fold. Don't even attempt to refute this with me, It's all layed out nice and neat right here for you, and cannot be argued with. I'm picturing most of you as middle-aged housewives, with very little education, most likely from the south or midwest. We (rest of the country) can't stand you people, you make us look so stupid with your fairy tale BS. Grow up, you mindless sheep.

Prayer is not meant to fix health issues,it is meant to build stronger emotional ties with God. And calling us mindless sheep will only enhance the flames of rage that people like you have. I'm sorry to inform this to you but your theories are flawed. Maybe if you read the bible a more sensible answer will you come out of mouth. But for now keep your mouth shut and do not spark a social conflict between us.

I have, for over a week now, being experiencing the exact same thing as all of you have described above. I had swallowed really hot coffee or something about two days before I noticed this lump-thing in my throat. It's around where my thyroid is..and is not painful but just irritating and uncomfortable, most of the time. Every once in a while, it'll hurt a little bit..especially if I eajt something spicy or hot or cold..but it doesn't hurt very much. It seems to vary a bit in degrees of discomfort..throughout the day, it'll bother me less..but at night, it'll bother me a little more and in the morning when I wake up, it has got much worse too. Mine isn't really on one side or another..maybe slightly more on the left side but not much. It feels like something I swallowed just got lodged in my throat and won't go down...in fact, that's what I thought it was at first... Then I remembered having swallowed the way-too-hot drink...and wondered if maybe I had somehow inflamed something. Anyway, haven't had it checked out yet...kinda hoped it would just go away.

Turned out it was what I like to call, dental stones, or hard plague build up that really gets into sticky, stinky and little balls that logde in places in the back of the mouth. I've had them before and they seem to come around every few years. I always get one about 1/4" in diameter or so. For what ever reason, I start coughing and up it comes. They are harmless, it's best to see your dentist and physician regularly in case it's a sign of something else that needs to be taken care of. This last time around, I didn't know what it was because it was lodge deep in my throat this time. A salt water garle every two hours or so, really helped in about two days! I hope this helps anyone else. : )

Hi, I'm 14, don't smole or drink or anything and the yesterday, something in the left side of my throat seemed to pop. Now i just have this feeling that there is something stuck in the left hand side of my throat as others have described. As others have said, it doesn't hurt but is just quite irritating. I've not been to the doctors yet as it happened when I was going to bed last night and I have just got up today but anyway, from what people have said, the doctors don't seem to do much. I was hoping it would go away overnight but it hasn't. I'm pretty sure it isn't cancer or some thing caused by bacteria bacause it was so sudden. I will go to the doctors if it persists but does anyone have any suggestions of what it might be or how to cure it? Thanks.

I have exactly the same symptoms and not for the first time. I normally get the 'lump' while I have a chesty cough/cold, as I have now. In my case the 'obstruction' clears itself within a week or 2 of me recovering from the cough/cold. Weather I unknowingly swallow it or it just disappears I can't tell you. If your worried about it get it checked out :) hope this helps

thnx for this really important note here... all i wanna say is guys whatever happens beleive in yurself , have a self trust first...don't panic or anything and secondly like my fren what just said , all yhu need to do is pray for what it really caused you. you must have surely done something wrong against god like any sins that might have caused this..beleive it guyss.. god does impossible things that yhu have never even imagined... just beleive in god and keep praying since my story is same ... i had same feeling since 3 weeks now and i stilll have a feeling of somthing stucked down in my throat. my tonsils are enlarged and ofcourse its one of the cause but i have been praying thruout day and night. its much better now ..all m doing is gargle and praying . today finally i coughed out one small yellowish like thing smelling really terrible which i beleive was a stone... i still have a little feeling but i beleive god is working on me and has forgiven me. he is doin his miracle work on my throat. but consult your GP as well if yhu still doubt for simething bad... just make sure to have faith in any ways ..oke.... god bless y'll
