I just fixed my issue. First of all, it is pill esophagitis. My was not too serious though. There are a bunch ways to avoid this, sit up, drink a lot of water when you take the pill. But if it has happened or you feel it is going to happen, here is what I did. Start to gently walk around, sip luke warm water. It may hurt a bit at the beginning, take it slow, don't force it. Stretch out your chest so there is more room for the pill. I did this for 15 minutes, feeling much better. Hope this helps

ok stop posting that you all go through the "same thing" thats verbatim! if you don't have a solution don't flood these forums with verbal diarrhea. a trick i used that worked instantly was MOUTHWASH! it even had a neat chemical reaction where the mouthwash started bubbling out of my mouth like a volcano! im on sertraline im not sure about other drugs but this worked for me. I hope this helps!

Hi, I know you posted this a long time ago but just googling your exact symptoms after taking UTI antibiotics. I tried to swallow the pill with water and the pain in my throat. Chest and all the way down to my stomach is unbearable.

Yes, took my regular vitamins yesterday & within 10 minutes had a pain that felt like I was having a heart attack. Arms, chest shoulders, back hurting. The pill concentration made me dizzy & nauseus. 6 hours later I boiled the jug & had a few gulps of very hot water & that dissolved it

Disclaimer I'm not a Doctor!
Same for me. Doxycycline tablets, taking at week 3 all OK. But a change of my routine meant for a couple of days I took tablets last thing at night with just some water. After those two days I have the same chest pain, pain swallowing as other users mention. I did some googling and have found some research papers:
1) Doxycycline-induced esophageal ulceration in the U.S. Military service.
2) Doxycycline-induced ulceration mimicking oesophageal cancer
You'll find them on google too.
They both suggest that with treatment it clears up in a few days, and all symptoms gone in a few weeks.
Also that pills should not be taken when lying down, and with lots of water.

I'll report back how I get on in a few days. I'm just taking some Dual Action Gaviscon (thick syrupy anti-acid) and a couple of Ibuprofen for the pain. I will continue taking the Doxycycline (shouldn't stop antibiotics without advice), but back to at meal times with lots of water.
Your situation may be different, go see a real Doctor.

I just had this problem and didn't do anything about it quickly enough. AS SOON as you feel there is a problem in your throat after taking ANY pill, drink LOTS of water. If it persists, take a Tums. If you think it's going to be heartburn, take a Zantac. I wish someone had mentioned these steps on a forum, as I was completely perplexed never having experienced this or heartburn. Thankfully, I have a good friend who is a physician's assistant and she gave me these instructions.

I had the same happen to me. Dr says that the pills actually stuck for a bit so it burnt me right in the bread basket. He says to quit taking the pills for two days and it will be better. I'm on my first morning missed.
