Hi guys.
Ive been having similar symptoms for 18 months now but my situation is a little different.
I was born with a coloboma of the retina in each eye. My right eye affects the central vision so I have about 10% vision if that in that eye. And in my "good" eye, the left one, the coloboma affects the top left of my peripheral. So, I've been kinda lucky lol.
These symptons started approx 18 monts ago, a slight flash of light above my line of sight (all in my good eye). It has since progressed now to almost 9 to 12 o clock on a clock face around my central vision. Sometimes I get the almost electric bolt white streak when I blink too.
In this time I have seen 3 seperate opthamologists who I have regular 6monthly checks ups. I've had a ct scan, MRI scan, EEG and I have an appointment with a neuro opthamologist. Everything has come back fine. But it's bloody annoying lol. Sometimes the flashes are verynoticeable. But Ifront see any when my eye is shut or it's dark. Gp seems to think persistant migraine aura. I do suffer from them and I sometimes start with them with too much heavy lifting at the gym.
Just wish I had a definate answer.

I just registered here because this is the first place I've seen that even remotely addresses my very similar problem (thank GOD). When I blink, I see a ring in my right eye that disappears right away. When it first started a couple weeks ago, it was a perfect circle. Now it's changing shape and is more oval shaped. I've been to the ophthalmologist and had my eyes dilated twice and she can find nothing other than the usual floaters I've had for years. I'm going to get a second opinion as I am insanely near-sighted and always on watch for retinal problems. But so far, nothing has shown up. Anybody got any updates/advice? Thank you to all.
I have the Same in both eyes but it only occurs at night or 1st thing in the morning
I only had it once about two months ago and nothing like it since. I am also extremely near sighted and I was not a candidate for laser surgery because of a retina issue.

Thank you indeed for your answers. I think this is related to computer use. I set long time in the computer "reading" . I set more than 9 hours per day. Im also so focused and very fast in reading and scanning text. I think all we need is to make a rest from the PC for 10 days or longer. Im sure it had a realtion with the white background in the PC.

Hey, guys
so I got hit in the face with a football pretty hard, it knocked me on ground. I went to go see a eye specialist because there was flashing in my eye. by the time i got to the doctors the flashing had stopped but my vision was still blurry in my left eye. The doctor diagnosed me with "commotia retinea" which to my understanding means that I have a bruised retina.. its been about a week since it happened and the burryness has went away but now I have the same kind of flashing in the lower half of my left eye. its like a blackish circle that appears every time I blink. its big and takes up the bottom right of my vision. I am kind of panicking right now.

Hey ive been having "a flash" from this year july (2012) . I had an accident when i did my boxing trainingm my friend accidentaly hit my eye with his thumb.. from that day i started seing flashes in corner of my eye. I was to an eye doctor and she didnt found retinal tear, and said that the flash probably will go away. So first months it was really annoying but after 2-3 months i started almost not notive it. Now its almost 6months and i still sometimes see it but its faded.
The thing is why i write here, today is the next time i see a flash in another eye , and im al little concerned if the brain somehow adapted that flash in my right eye and started to show in left. Or its because of my heavy training in the gym i get retinal injury...(i hope not)

Posterior Vitreous Separation (Vitreous Detachment)
Most of the eye's interior is filled with vitreous, a gel-like substance that helps the eye maintain a round shape. There are millions of fine fibers intertwined within the vitreous that are attached to the surface of the retina, the eye's light-sensitive tissue. As we age, the vitreous slowly shrinks, and these fine fibers pull on the retinal surface. Usually the fibers break, allowing the vitreous to separate and shrink from the retina. This is a vitreous detachment. In most cases, a vitreous detachment is not sight-threatening and requires no treatment

As the vitreous shrinks, it becomes somewhat stringy, and the strands can cast tiny shadows on the retina that you may notice as floaters, which appear as little "cobwebs" or specks that seem to float about in your field of vision. If you try to look at these shadows they appear to quickly dart out of the way. One symptom of a vitreous detachment is a small but sudden increase in the number of new floaters. This increase in floaters may be accompanied by flashes of light (lightning streaks) in your peripheral, or side, vision. In most cases, either you will not notice a vitreous detachment, or you will find it merely annoying because of the increase in floaters.

I have this pop up from time to time over the years. I've come to accept it as non threatening.
I work stupid long hours in front of the computer and it seems to be a combination of the two. I would say long term exposure to the white light from the monitor in a darkened room at night and also the fact I get about 4 hours sleep a night when busiest.
The trigger seems to be little sleep and computer monitor.

Hi there
I have the same thing. I went to a retina specialist to have the retina checked for holes or tears. There were none. He said the flashes were caused by posterior vitreous detachment. That means the vitreous gel is shrinking and pulling on th retina which causes the flashes. Usually the gel breaks free without tearing the retina. The process usually lasts about a month, but can last longer. If you notice More flashing or a black curtain in your vision it could mean a retinal tear. If that happens you need surgery ASAP To save the vision in that eye. Hope this helps!
