I've noticed for a couple of months now, that when I eat dairy, or foods high in sugar content (natural or refined), the next day I wake up with ezcema only on my face and tiny water blisters on my hands. I had allergy testing done for foods and everything came back negative. The doctor has given me prednisone. But once the prednisone leaves my body, the facial eczema comes back if I eat any dairy or sugar. Thus I'm getting very frustrated because if I eat anything other than vegetables, lean meat or potatoes and rice, the symptoms come back. What is causing this hypersensitivity with the foods? The allergist says just to avoid the foods. I'm starving. I need to know what is causing this! I'm a 45 year old female, and in good health (aerobics instructor). What type of doctor could help me with this?
You may be suffering from a form of exercise-induced allergy that is related to eating certain food. This form of allergy can develop at any age and the cause is unknown. The fact that you mentioned that you are an aerobic instructor in good health suggests to me that you are far more physically active than the average people. Avoid dairy and sugar, say, 6 hours prior to performing any exercise and see what happens. Adjust the interval of avoidance until dairy and sugar no longer give you eczema. You can always eat them afterwards.
