hi my fellow sufferers, like so many of you i've been suffering from this intolerable disease for nearly a year and i've had it up to the point where i started having thoughts of suicide (due to lack of social contact because of these fucken noises) anyway recently i read a book about the whole digestive disorder and etc, and i found a miracle cure. It's called HSO Probiotics (Primal Defence), these are basically probiotics that are resistent to any type of environment. Unlike other probiotics they do not die in heat or because of your stomach acid and etc..., they will kill anything thats bad (bacteria / parasites) in your gut and start colonizing it and restoring the beneficial gut flora which is necessary for proper digestion. Theses probiotics can be found in Whole Food's store for about $50 for 90 capsules or so. Before i tried this i've had noises, and diahriah for 5 months - had done numerous stool test, colonoscopy, endoscopy, digestive enzymes, other probiotics and nothing helped. NOTHING BUT THIS - TRUST ME GO OUT AND BUY THIS MIRACLE FROM GOD AND I GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL BE CURED. All the best luck to all of you and remember that even though stress does upset your stomach - hence the noises in quiet situations - the problem is that you microflora, aka the beneficial bacteria in your intestines, is destroyed by fungi or bad bacteria and thus you're unable to digest anything, thus this food ferments and produces gas - hence the noises - and diahriah is the body's natural way to flush out everything that can't be absorbed; anyway try these probiotics and all the best of luck to all of you.

p.s. sorry for the language but i wanted to type the info as fast as possible coz i know how you must suffer coz i've been there....

Hi all this is getting a little strange as i have been on acne medication duac but its only a topical cream but i have had this problem for a while now a few years and in the past i have been on numerous antibiotics. Another thing that i have found extremely strange is that i am 21 now had this problem for only a few years probably noticeable when i was 17-18 about the time where i was originally prescribed my topical antibiotics.

This is going to be a long post but i think it may help us find more trends and relations between the symptoms we may all have. In think the idea from the previous post taking prebiotic supplements maybe just work, the thing is that i have had this problem on and off for the last few years of my life and this has made my life miserable from a social angle, its probably one of the hardest things to deal with as there is so far no over night cure.

STOP EATING AFTER 7PM

But from the hours of research i have done searching and thinking about this is that,

1) the problem lies within the intestines and is caused by diet the food we eat

2) i do believe that there is a imbalance in the good/ bad bacterica in the gut ------ this is where i guess the prebiotics would come in, the problem i have had with the prebiotic drinks was that they only made the problem worse and i have tried them on several occasions and it didnt help but maybe talking a tablet supplement will be stonger and will allow the bacterica to reach the intestines without being killed by the acid in the stomach.

3) Excercise - i think its vital to get a good bit of excercise i will talk about this more in a bit

4) Over eating infrequently at the wrong times as well, i noticed that if i eat earlier in the evening and cut out all processed junk foods like crips ( potatoe chips in in US) and chocolate. Key maybe to give the body about 8 + hrs to digest and reset in evenings read about this somewhere to do with the process of digestion.
Also cut down on the amount of food in evenings and throughout the day

5) sleep-- now this depends it could help or it may not depends on the person i find it helps a little but overall wont by it self help get rid of the problem

6) funny how we all suffer from acne lol - acne even though some people dont believe is due to a bad digestive system, too much toxins and c**p in the system

7) for the last few times when it got bad i did some research now im a dude and this might sound a little strange as its normally only a problem with women but yeast infection if in doubt or you think im nuts it does kinda fit with the symptoms.....hence cut down on beer or anything that contains alot of yeast. might help let me know what you think as im trying to find out a bit more about this point.....

8) water and more water not too much in one go otherwise i have read about some instances where it causes the blood to become too thin and causes bad problems.

recently i was on holiday where i had a very strict diet for under 5 weeks and did alot of excercise like hiking. I am a vegetarian but when i was on holiday i had huge amounts of raw vegtables hardly any potatoes and other types of junk food ie chocolate......drank insane amounts of water due to the hot climate. Anyway this was the best time i have had in the last few years it was amazing no constipation gas or bloatedness nothing acne went down aswell.......it was unbelievable how all my symptoms had vanished.

Anyway after this long post, btw im also a student at university it makes life extremely difficult as i know some of you must have felt it as well . I think the key is to not too worry about it too much. And the stomach growling...... most times does mean your hungry so EAT something and sometimes its due to stress and your worrying too much about what other people think STOP WORRYING lol its not easy but it will help in the long run. There are definantely some anxiety issues with this problem i think its a personal thing as well but dont get BEAT by this problem . We will solve it together!

Thanks again to the OP at least we have found others so we are not alone and we must deal with this problem together!

I also have the same kind of syptoms, loud stomach noises after i eat anything, followed by intense discomfort and feelings of sickness, also my stomach is swollen all the time but gets worse after i eat anything. I have also been on medicaine for acne different antibiotics and also accutane... Was thinking has anyone been tested for bacteria overgrowth like yeast infections in the stomach/intestines etc, also H.pylori? It could be a conincidence we have all been on acne medicine i guess but... if youv been on it for as long as i have like 6/7yrs then I guess it makes sense that it could be that causing the problems... especially tetracyclins as they are supposed to be pretty bad and i was on them for a good few years. And obviously accutane is rediculously strong so.. just a thought..

Hi all,
I am 20 and have similar problems! I definitely think mine is stress related (to some extent) but I'm not the kind of person that can just relax and let go during university so I'm stuck with these symptoms for the better part of a year. I still have symptoms (to a lesser extent) when I'm on holidays.

It started a few months ago with me feeling really full (after eating half a banana) and then feeling empty 15-20 mins later with my intestines growling too. I went to see my doctor and he told me to eat slowly, avoid foods that I don't tolerate well (watermelon, capsicum, tomato, fried food etc), avoid caffeine, drink ginger tea. I completely cut caffeine out of my diet, drank and ate a ridiculous amount of ginger, and ate small meals over a long period of time ... taking 40 mins to eat a banana. It wasn't getting much better and working a full time internship in a quite office environment and with 4 work colleagues in close proximity I was getting more and more self conscious and stressed (which only made it worse). I went back to the doctor and he said I had 'irritable stomach syndrome' - IBS except in the stomach and gave me motilium. Motilium is designed to be used with an antibiotic to treat bacterial ulcers but it's good by itself at reducing acid secretion and regulating stomach muscles so they don't just cramp like crazy and make you feel really full then empty. They worked really well for about a week. I was taking them 30 mins before food which got a bit annoying because I had to predict when I felt hungry so my stomach didn't growl of hunger pains.

After about a week and a half, the motilium didn't work as well (maybe it was the placebo effect as well?) and my whole tract appeared to be spasm/growl like crazy again. My stomach was also burning occasionally when I hadn't eaten in a while. I went back to my doctor and he said there was a small possibility it may be an ulcer but he thought I was too young and didn't want to do a gastroscopy just yet. He didn't really listen to my intestinal complaints and just focused on my stomach problems. He gave me Pariet designed for ulcers which was meant to calm my stomach reduce the acid but instead I had really bad headaches (I hardly ever get them), I felt nauseous and my stomach was constantly burning. I returned four days later and he took me off them and told me to try and relax and come back in a month if it hadn't gone away and I'd get a gastroscopy to check things out. I went on holidays, managed to relax a bit and my symptoms subsided somewhat. I think I am also less conscious of what noises my intestinal tract makes when I'm not in a quiet environment. However, recently my symptoms have started again with university starting and my stress level rising. My intestines actually sound like they were a baby complaining or something (hard to describe) but it happens more often in the morning (a few times in a 10 min period then repeating every hour until lunch time) and I don't feel any need to pass gas. I hate the sounds so much and I turn bright red in front of the people around me....I wish there were a 'mute' button!

I also had bad acne and used a topical cream for a while but have been taking yaz for a few years which works like a charm (still kind of scares me with the lawsuits against it). I'm going to try cutting down on gluten for a few days (at the suggestion of a pharmacist in my family) and then book a doctors appointment. I’ll post again later with an update.

hi all,

basically i have similar problems and it make feel better that i am not alone..this damn IBS affects my academic and working life very badly. up to now, i have never stayed in exams longer than 1.5hours, even if it longs 3hours bcs i cant concentrate anything except my stomach and bowel noises..my grades went down, i got the lowest gpa overall in the department..my goals in life changed, my life actually changed..

there are 3 things that my mind cant go any further;
1-in a quiet environment, i always feel that my stomach would grumble and i would be embarrassed with that. i dont care the pain, the only thing that i focus is that if people hear noises and what they would think about me..

2-like most people said, i feel hungry even just 2hours later, especially if i am in quiet place, office or class. also usually my stomach going crazy just after the meal and i have to go to wc.

3-my bowels are alwaaays full of gas. It is difficult to believe that someone can pass gas as much as me thanks to my great bowels. by the way, i have burped only 1 or 2 times in my life, it is strange:)

in the beginning of the semester, i started to take lopermid, drug that reduces diarrhea.. it prevents me from looking around to find a toilet..i feel better bcs i know that if i take a pill, i would need toilet 3times in a day at most.. but still i have fear of hungry related and bowel movement noises..

think about that; you were in top 10 at the university entrance exam among 2million high school students, and you got accepted the best department at the best uni in the country..while your friends are searching for the prestigious universities around the world and getting great job offers; you are searching on the net about your diease. imagine how would you feel? it has tremendous effects on your life overall..

and i am sick of hearing from doctors that all in your mind, dont care about others..it is obvious that i have a kind of biological problem(very sensitive bowel), when it combines with psychological one(embarrassment due to noises), congratulations; bingo.

now i dont know what to do..i am senior student and in June i will graduate..what would i do with IBS?

i want my old days back, high school years. i hope i can find a way to beat it...please feel free to contact me;
i am not a native speaker by th way, sorry for my language..

best regards,

hello ppl i thank you for your postings maybe together we can find a cure i hope so because i cant continue like this. i am 33 years old was only 30 when these things started...

well my story is that i took antibiotics and occasionally NSAIDS for 7 months for a skin problem. midway into the first month my stomach started growling incessantly. would notice it most when lying or sitting down. dont notice it much when standing up. anyways after all the antibiotics my stomach would not stop gurgling at all times. started feeling a pressure in my far left side right around bottom of my rib cage. pushed my hand in there and i feel sort of a clicking noise which feels like either air or liquid and is ucomfortable when pushed. then started having severe tachycardia(racing heart) at times. well the problems just keep getting worse and worse, when i take a deep breath in after eating pretty much anything now, or sometimes when i am just sitting, feel and hear a burbling coming up my front left side, have spasms in my intestines sometimes. bloated and lots of gas, especially in the morning, and it never smells it is just like a ton of air in there.

now the truly terrible part about this is it has affected my posture as i try to bend over to the left side when i sit, because of the discomfort. this in turn has caused a chain reaction. lost my equilibrium in my body. left shoulder in the back is constantly tensed and it will not let go. feel like i cannot sit normally anymore. feel i cannot straighten up. malaise and feeling of doom. have really painful arthritis in my right side of my chest, left side back and shoulder, constant pain that causes me emotional meltdowns. vertigo near high places, feeling that the floor has just dropped out beneath me, scared to death whenever the ground shakes even a bit, (which is alot), cant stand loud noises or flashing tv screens, got uncontrollable twitches all over my body that feel like pulsings, they started happening about once every half hour but now they have gotten so they happen like once a minute and it only seems to be getting worse, i can barely get to sleep anymore because of them. started having panic attacks, had a few where legs would not stop shaking for 45 minutes, last one i had was so bad my hands then my arms fell asleep, started having chest pain, my ears were ringing. cant smoke weed anymore because i get a panic attack right after , weed used to help my stomach alot. feeling like i have to force myself to breathe after waking up, sleep in contorted positions, shoulder and neck immensely stiff after waking, think i have sinusitis in the left side of my face there is pressure on and off in my ear and behind my eye, feels like something always stuck in that eye, had wierd double vision the other day where people on tv had 4 eyes one pair right below their other pair. vision seems blurry sometimes feels like it gets darker at times. heavy chest pain in breastbone area when sitting, lots of popping/ crunching noises in left side neck/back/chest, feels like my neck has a crick in it at all times, pops constantly, sends electrical shocks down my spine. have low volume ringing in my right ear at random times feels like my ear has changed pressure. random heart palpitations in my back and chest sometimes in arms. upon waking feel my body is so tense, especially neck and shoulders and lower legs, i can barely move and when i do it is very shakily, feel like i have to sit down or lie down to feel grounded, grip countertops or table or chairs alot because the tension and shaking is so bad. also feel hunched over all the time. also coughing up alot of phlegm.

a few months ago started having a vibrational feeling felt like a phone vibrating in my right pocket but no phone even in my pocket. now that vibrating feeling is occuring in my feet more and more often.

well all of this i believe started with my stomach. no doubt you will think i am wrong but i believe it started a chain reaction and i believe the stomach and intestines affect everything in your body. however i do spend alot of time hunched over sitting at my computer doing things like writing this c**p because i am so worried all the time. went to doctor many times, nothing works, gave me prednisone for my chest/rib pain which destroyed my stomach made me feel worse. then for 4 days after stopping prednisone were the most painful of my life. gave me something for my stomach, omeprazole, which didnt do anything, until i discontinued it, then felt like acid was burning thru my esophagus for 7 days, 7 days of sheer hell. did physical therapy, very little improvement in the arthritic symptoms of neck etc.

only thing that seems to help the arthritis is playing tennis or running, even hiking helps a bit, have to do it for like 2 hours to feel any change, after that joints feel less stiff for about 8 hours, then it reverts to normal. certain exercises seem to exacerbate the problem especially bicycling where i am hunched over the whole time.

took something a long time ago that helped my stomach, it was a stomach relaxer... trying to find the name of it, but it was specifically for the stomach, and made me drowsy as well. took xanax also for a while that did help alot with the tension and stiffness as well as improved my breathing, and reduced the tachycardia, but now... i cannot find a doctor that will prescribe it. they also will not prescribe me any pain meds for my neck/shoulder nor any muscle relaxers. however they are gung-ho to prescribe pretty much anything else, such as antibiotics, antidepressants, prednisone, tell me to take ibuprofen, blah blah blah, well it is my belief that most of these drugs they are trying to prescribe me are messing up my stomach even more, causing worse symptoms, and if they dont mess me up more, than the withdraw effects certainly will. tried to find different doctors, cannot, they are either not accepting new patients, or the wait for an appt is 2 months, at times just want to go to the ER for things but i know that will be a nightmare.

have tried taking probiotics, helps a tiny bit not much.

it is my opinion tho i am maybe completely wrong, that the long term antibiotics are to blame. it is one common thing shared in most of these threads. it is my belief that the antibiotics not only destroyed my stomach/colon/intestines, but that they also caused immune system problems, maybe my body is even attacking itself now.

i would like to add i never had a single health problem until 2+ years ago when this all started. going to find the name of the medications that helped will post them next post. i wonder if there is any legal avenue i can pursue against the rampant antibiotic prescribing of physicians nowadays because i feel i am most likely irreperably damaged from them.

Hi guys its me again

Nice to see other people discussing their problems its useful to hear about other peoples experience, well i have to say i am well since i have started a few new routines firstly i take prebiotic pills over the counter every now and then whenever i feel its getting to that point it helps alot. also i have kept drinking water especially in the morning which again seems to be a good idea. Lastly try not to eat too late at night i have found it to be a culprit in a digestive problems which seems obvious but i know people still get the munchies at night but best to ignore them. Excercise is also important it will aid digestion and help with regular bowel movements and so on. RICE is good to eat especially at night wont cause any problems reduces acidity....

Anyway i hope some peoples problems have improved let me know if anything in particular helps

Also i might have said this before its really weird that all of us (most) have had acne and this is sign of internal digestion problems the skin is the largest organ in the body and shows us how healthy we are and the fact we have used antibiotics to deal with this problem. the fact that i used to use topic antibiotics thinking that it wont really causes many side effects as it is "topical" how wrong was I !!

again i hope peoples problems are improving

p.s i was reading someone else post on another topic which talked about potassium levels and if they are under the recommend guidelines then it can cause noises in the stomach area.Anyone heard about this before????????? might make sense when i eat potatoes which have a high potassium content i believe? i dont get many problems. what do you guys think?

I have the same problems you mentioned.

Its weird.. My stomach/instestines making these "popping" noises.. that are really loud.. Sounds like a popcorn maker seriously. It doesn't stop there.. my rectum and abdomen makes these whining noises, and start vibrating... If I put my hand on my abdomen you can feel something pop and vibrate. It is sooo embarrassing. I hope somebody comes across a solution (so that you can tell me :-D ). I too am in my 20's . Sadly if I was "normal" I think I would have said that this problem is ridiculous because it is and its hard to believe. Before this all began in 2004 I had a fecal odor emitting from my body. It took me a while to realize it was coming from me. It was so bad it would fill up the whole classroom. I had frequent bowel movements at the time too or at least the urge to use the rest room. Now its noises :-( with rectal abdomen vibrations and noises.. I know life is supposed to be hard but didn't know it was this hard!!!!!!!! Good luck to all of you and hope somebody finds a solution soon

Hello. I am 19 years old and was diagnosed with IBS last year, tried everything from peppermint oil capsules, antispasmodics, to a colonoscopy. My first recognition of knowing something wasn't right was when i ate pasta, it would just go straight through me.
Its quite difficult to rule out which foods are worse than others as it differs, I can eat something one day and get an upset stomach, but then eat it another day and be fine and dandy, but even when you stick to the RIGHT diet and STILL suffer consequences, then it's downright maddening.
This condition has shown to be challenging and difficult, and it has had a vast impact on my social life and makes me think twice about enjoying time with friends and family. I experience flare-ups, in which I can have a good day or a bad day, but every day is unpredictable My life revolves around it, having to reschedule plans and not being able to do stuff i used to.
The fear of going out, I began to feel isolated yet safe within the comfort of my own home. Even the fear of using a toilet that isn’t my own is an instant knock to my confidence. And the obsessive attention I need to pay to what I eat and drink can suck the fun out of life...
I often get rumbling in my stomach, and also in my rectum, sort of like a groaning feeling. I end up doing the brainless routine of going hours and hours without eating if im out because its embarrassing and a nuisance.

Over the past months, I've recognised and recorded patterns in my symptoms and came across certain methods to help ease the abdominal cramp and other symptoms.
Do not over eat - stop eating before you get the chance to feel full.
Also avoid sweet/sugary foods in the morning, as that seems to increase bowel movements, i.e. commonly known as ’The Morning Urgency’. Try having something light on your stomach, such as a yogurt.
I always carry Imodium or Loperamide Hydrochloride tablets with me; this instantly makes me feel more comfortable.
I also discovered ‘The HAYES Diet’, which is impossible to follow, but it led me to the avoidance of combining vegetables & potato in one meal, this system reduces bloating, wind, and excessive stomach rumbling.

I tend to take a couple of immodium in the morning and that helps settle my stomach for the majority of the day. I also came across a herbal remedy that has worked miracles for me, i definitely recommend these capsules, they're called Slippery Elm. You only take 1-2 tablets 3 times per day with a meal. it coats the lining of your entire digestive tract, which prevents irritation. try them out and let me know if it works for anyone else. you get them from Holland and Barretts.

Hey i have the same thing!! the sound is so loud and embarrassing! i constantly feel that i HAVE to relieve myself or i am going to explode. today i had to sprint to the bathroom in fear that i was not going to make it. What is worse is that im at school. i quickly pull down my pants but nothing happens. I push until i am breathless but still nothing happen besides a bit of runnyness . I don't know what to do. I cant get up from the toilet coz every time i do i feel like i am going to poo. Sometimes the noises are so loud other people stare at me. I get very sweaty too. And when i finally do poo, its like a volcano!! Ill just finished cleaning myself up and then it begins all over again. Its often very embarrassing if your friends are waiting for you in the toilets.

Hi everyone - and odk in particular (your symptoms is almost just like mine!).

First of all, let me apologize for my English, this is not my native language....

As the rest of you, my symtoms started with antibiotics, the last prescription was for six weeks, with Ciprofloxacin Teva in September/October 2009. Ever since I've been "out of order".

I'm troubled with what feels like consptipation, and I never feel like I manage to empty myself anymore. But my feces looks more "diaretic"...

My main problems, however, is with bloating (and burping related to this). I pass some gas, but not unnormally much I think - the bloating does not come from this I think (gas). A strange thing is that the gas (as my feces) does not seem to have any smell anymore, which I don't take as a sign of a functioning stomach....

As odk described, I feel pressure om the left side, and have spasms (on right side as well). At the borttom of my ribcage I sometimes feel a weird pain, and if I take a deep breath it makes a strange "gurgrling" noise and I can feel something move.

Another "funny" detail that odk described is the vibrating feeling in my pocket area, I've checked my cellphone many times....

I've tried many things for this condition. Gastro- and colonoscopy shows notsing but an infection in my esophagus, which I believe is related to my burping. But I'm not very bothered with chestburns (have had Somac and Nexium). Tried all sorts of diets, and tons of probiotics, nothing really works.

I see no other option now, than to step off the track I've been on; that the problems lies inside my intestials. Although I'm going to try out Egazil and Surmontil (and Zelnorm, if I can find it). And - I've heard about a research-project in Norway where the "normal" feces was insertes into the bowel of several patients, and more than 50 % got well!! I'm gonna pursue that, but I think it will be difficult.

I've read a book about IBS, where they claim it can stem from psychological factors, and it also stated that bloating not related to gas can come from contractions in the stomach. So I'll try psychology, acupuncture and hypnosis. And then we'll see.

Doctors seem oblivious to what we are going through, and the easiest would be to just lay down and cry. But that won't help!!! Together we can fight this, I'm confident. But we have to share our experiences!

So let's keep sharing - what doesn't work is as important as what does.

Hope you'll keep up - including you, odk.

I'll try again to create a profile here, but I had some problems there...

Stay strong.

This is LTV again, now with a new nick...

One thing I forgot to mention and that I believe in, is trying to get researchers an scientists in the relevant fields engaged. There are probably several people researching these issues that may take a greater interest in our situations than practising doctors. THay may also need some "test pilots", and we may help each other...

Think about it.
