It isn't normal, you eat for energy. My husband is going through tests as he cannot keep his eyes open after any meal. He was and always has been full of energy and a night owl. Not any more. The doctor stated that this was NOT normal.

I have experienced the same sleepy/lethargic sinking spell after eating a small meal. What I figured out was that when i age the small healthy meal my sugar was high from a previous meal and now if i check it before I eat and its above 105 I have tea or water and wait until it drops below 100 and then i won't go into a coma after a healthy meal.

Why are you shouting at us? (That is what the use of all caps signifies. )

Maybe it has more to do with constantly yelling.

Your body wants digestive system to work first and sooner than your brain has even realized. If your vision goes blurry, there is a possibility that your blood sugar or/and blood pressure is a little too high as a normal person.
I am not professional. These are just several suggestions. You might want to see a doctor sometime in the future, but no hurry.

Many things can cause this and I am NOT talking about snoozing. This is the coma-like sleep where the house can burn down with you in it and you wouldn't wake up. My eyes catch fire, heart beats a little harder than normal then boom pass out after eating. Thyroid issues, adrenal fatigue, diabetes. My biggest problem was and is my bowels would back up either due to lack of nerve pulse to move the digested food due to damaging diabetes or thyroid which controls basically everything in the body. Blood work has been done at least 8 times in which 4 of those thyroid came back borderline high. But the main problem with passing out is food that i eat had nowhere to go. After 2-3 days if I don't take something lax or magnesium the passing out will start. I hope this helps you all.

It's actually pretty simple... after eating, your blood goes to your stomach to help with faster digestion. When most of your blood is being channeled to your stomach, less goes to your brain which causes you to feel tired and sleepy. The larger meal you have, the more oxygen needs to be delivered through your blood to your organs. Therefore, eating smaller meals throughout the day should help with this problem because you are spreading out the time it takes to digest. You should still speak with your doctor about this just in case it is something serious. You can casually bring it up during your next wellness visit... I hope this helps.

I don't think it is normal at all but more because of a food allergy or intolerance. I love sardines and they are high in protein but every time I eat them I get tired and also kinda headachy. Most times I eat I have more energy not less. I think that is normal. The answer that said everyone does is wrong. They must be eating lots of pizza :)

Cheeseburgers. With me it's specifically Wendy's Baconator cheeseburgers. Other beef dishes almost come close, but Wendy's Bacon Cheese burgers do it so consistently I began to wonder if they were putting something in them.

My theory has no science to it at all. I was raised on beef and burger. I mean, a lot of beef. As I got older, over time, my diet became more varied. In recent years, I became more health conscious and adapted my diet.

So my theory is that my younger bodily infrastructure was essentially made of burger, putting it one way. That my body was conditioned to metabolize beef as a staple. So when I go so long now without a burger and then eat one, my body supercharges and jumps at the chance to do what it was conditioned to do best, and quickly puts that missing unique piece of the protein puzzle anywhere it can.

The effect is sort of a high, and then I get the best sleep ever as it happens.

Or maybe its my body's way of averting a heart attack, who knows.

:P

People write on the net that it's normal, but I get nearly narcoleptic. It's only been in the last year or so. Yet there is no discussion of excessive sleepiness.

People who call it tiredness do not know what it is like. I feel drugged and sometimes cannot keep eyes open. . I sleep very heavily and often feel terrible in the morning like a hangover. Only thing that helps (unless very strong symptoms) is to keep active. I have kept a food diary and the weird thing is that I feel dopier after healthy food.. salads, greens fruit, yoghurt. Any sort of mental activity during the meal or very shortly afterwards(talking with friends, playing cards etc) and no problem though I might feel drugged the following morning. A high protein meal often helps but then one worries about all the adverse comments about that!

Have tried what you suggest. None of them work. In fact some, like carrot juice and eating little and often make me feel spaced out as well as drowsier.. not pleasant

I have been getting extremely tired and get a headache after lunch for 20 years. I am retired now and it is worse. I was a carpenter and about the last ten years skipped lunch so I was able to work. My fellow workers could not believe I did not eat to work. After a few years I had no appetite anymore and ate once a day around 8:00. Now at 65 I eat lunch and go to bed for 3-4 hours. My life is being waisted. If I have something to do on a particular day I go hungry so I have the energy to move. Dinner does not effect me most days just lunch. Very hard to understand any reason I read today. Good luck to everyone. I guess since I have been going through this for 20 or so years the good news is it is not fatal.

It's food allergies. I was like this every day for 4 years. When I cut out 3 foods that blood tests showed I had an intolerance for : dairy, corn, wheat . 3 days later - not one day of being tired after eating. If I slipped up it would mean I would get short of breath, and with in 10 minutes I had to sleep and won't wake up for 4 hours. Like I said it's hard to cut out these foods because they are in 95 % of what is on the store shelves but the facts for me are true.
