I know this is an old post, but I must say thank you for your comment. It is not normal to be tired all the time after eating. I'm about to go to Dr for this problem. I hate feeling groggy after only eating a half plate of food...Ugh! Have other health issues, so really didn't need this too.

I can eat an apple. Within 20-30 minutes, I will fall asleep without having had any notice from my body that it's about to shut down. When I wake up, 20 minutes to an hour later, I wake up totally refreshed and my body will not do this again until I eat something... anything... but guaranteed it will happen each time. It is totally uncontrollable. My husband and son will attempt to wake me during these "sleep episodes" and they tell me it is "very" difficult to awaken me. They have learned to just let me sleep. It's scary and it isn't normal.

I have the same problem. Feels like I have been drugged and need to close my eyes.
When I cannot fight it, I let myself crash and set an alarm for 10-15 minutes. Waking up from the forced nap is way easier than trying to stay awake. It used to be triggered with carb heavy lunches and little or no effect with protein only lunches (rotisserie chicken). I have read that perhaps blood pressure drops because blood vessels are not contracting enough during digestion, a time when more blood flow is used in the digestive system

Try going gluten free. I had to but then I notice when I eat something with just a little wheat in it I would fall asleep within 10 minutes.
Now it's to the point of anything I eat I fall asleep within 20 minutes and sleep from 2-4 hours and still want to sleep more. I have to force myself to wake up. I am caffeine free also. Sugar levels are fine too. This started last summer and is just getting worse.

This happens to most of us, It happens to me too. I figured this out, after I eat bread or a sandwich the enzimes in the bread makes me tired.. so that when I am near home and want bread I have it at home so I can take a small 1 hour nap. when I do this I am totally refreshed.. when I am out with some friends I have salads with no dressings, cause the dressings will give me cramps and I have to resume to a toilet for instant pooping... this has been a big problem with a lot of people.

Yours is an older post but I wanted to add my two cents. This started happening to me about three months ago, never before and I am 70 years old. I seem to be able to control it with the size of my meals. If I eat six small meals in a day rather than three I am less likely to feel so sleepy I can't function. But there are days when my meal is barely finished that I am so tired I have to sleep. It's like passing out. My doctor told me to cut down on my sugars, which I did. It didn't help. They said to increase my activity. I did. That didn't help. Have you found anything that works or are you still looking?

I have reactive hypoglycemia, it was diagnosed with several glucose tests, all of which I have to take someone with me to keep me from falling asleep or I have to do the test again. I have been suffering from this for years. I even have a doctors note for when it happens at work so I do not lose my job. It is so severe though now that I only eat maybe once a day and a small meal at that. It doesn't matter what I eat, the last thing was a salad with little dressing. This is not a normal situation. The reactive hypoglycemia has caused hypersomnia, which my doctor explained is worse than narcolepsy. If you are suffering from this, or think you are please see your doctor and have your labs checked, including a glucose test.
