Help I Am Allergic To Banana. If you have an Banana Allergy then you suffer from allergies Type 1 or contact allergy. The protein found in banana called chitinase, causes the immune system in some individuals to overreact and treat the protein as harmful to your body. The reason the body overacts to certain foods is not clear and more studies are needed. The protein called chitinase is also found in avocado and kiwi fruit.

Bananas originated in Malaysia around 2,000 B.C. and then spread throughout the Philippines and India. Alexander the Great recorded them being grown in India in 327 B.C. Today bananas are grown in most tropical and subtropical regions around the world with the main commercial producers located in Central America. With the development of rapid transportation bananas have become widely available.

To be allergic to banana you body's immune system must be overacting to the banana protein chitinase. Another cause of the allergy reaction could be due to intolerance to bananas and not a true allergy reaction. This intolerance could be caused by Vaso-active amines.

Vaso-active amines are histamine like substances that occur naturally in foods and can trigger symptoms that can mimic allergy reactions. Vaso-active amines are called histamine, phenyl-ethylamine, serotonin, tyramine and dopamine.

Serotonin is found in banana, and the symptom of serotonine ingestion include cramping, flushing of the skin, headache, and heart palpitations. The severity of the symptoms is dependent on the amount the histamine like substance ingested and the lack of the histamine metabolizing enzyme diamine oxidase in your system.

Most food allergy or food intolerance reactions usually happen within a few minutes to a few hours after eating the bananas. Most mild to moderate reactions last less than a day and can involve a rash on the skin, cramps, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, runny nose, watery eyes, wheezing and coughing.

For individually that are allergic to banana symptoms may not appear or the symptoms may be to mild to be noticed the first few times bananas are eaten. Sensitivity can develop over time and can start out very mild and slowly develop into life-threatening allergic reactions.

A cross-reaction is also a very common problem in individuals who are allergic to banana. If a person suffers from an allergic reaction to the protein in bananas a possibility to being allergic to the same proteins in latex is very high. Other foods to watch out for cross-reaction with a Banana Allergy are avocado, kiwi and chestnut.

Ok, this is a difficult thing to get info on. ripe or not ripe, I still get pain. Im not allergic to any sort of latex. I dont have atype 1 reaction to it. The pain is so bad it stops me being able to stand most of the time. I think that bananas are easy to digest so I dont think its because of that? the only thing I have found to help is not eating it first thing in the morning and having something to eat before I have a banana. I just want to know why the pain is so bad, THEY ARE MENT TO BE GOOD FOR YOU! and are they still good for you if they give you pain or is it causing damage in there somewhere? Im 22 and never even tryed a banana until I turned 20, my diet was awfull but now is perfec yet I cant eat bananas? they are one of the best food for depression, and so easy to eat if you like them but there seems to be so many of us suffering from this strange allergy if you like. I think that the fact there isnt any pain for me when I eat it later in the day and with some food before it is a clue to what the problem may be....

I know Im posting way later so I dont know if anyone will see this but I have the same problem! It is a cripling pain when I eat a banana.....in the middle of my chest right below my breast bone. i have done a lot of research and finally figured out....well I think.;..its a food allergy! I went to the allergist and she tested me for bananas...it was negative. However I tested positive for birch trees.....which apparently are part of the same family as bananas, kiwi, avacodos, and blackl berries! Well this explained it! Im assuming this is the cause, so since avoiding these foods I have been great.....unitl lately! Now shrimp does the exact same thing to me! what the heck??!! I dont know.....hopes this helps some though:)

Guest, thanks for your post! I get horrible pains when I eat bananas and kiwi, so maybe I'm allergic to birch tree foods. I find, though that I can eat a few bites with milk and I'll be ok.

have you gone to see a doctor?

maybe you are allergic to bananas or its the chemicals put to the banana tree to ripen, color and grow the bananas fast, anyway you better see a doctor

About a year ago I started getting bad abdominal pain when eating bananas. Bananas were the only food that irritated my stomach and after research I determined I must have developed an alergy to them. 4 months after that I went for an endoscopy and discovered that I had cancer in my small bowel. Thankfully the cancer was removed and all is well. Since then I have started eating bananas again with no problems what so ever.

Not trying to scare anyone on here, but I was wondering if maybe the potassium was reacting with the affected area and this is what caused the pains.

I started getting stomach pain after eating tomatoes, then mushrooms, peppers, some spicy foods but worst of all is the banana. It starts around 90 minutes after eating and I have to go and lie down and not move a muscle or it comes over in waves. After about another 90 minutes it wears off but I can't face the thought of eating or drinking for a good couple of hours after that.
It started over 17 years ago and I was given something from the doctor but as I avoided the trigger foods I never went back. Most of the time I can eat tomatoes and mushrooms when they are fully cooked as part of a sauce but not raw. I can eat things that have peppers in them as long as I don't eat the actual pepper.
The banana problem started about 10 years ago and has got worse. I could get away with eating little bits in fruit salad so wasn't sure if it was that causing the problem. Last year I really fancied a banana so I decided once and or all that I needed to know. I had a banana sandwich around 10am. Within 20 minutes I was in the bathroom sweating and vomiting more than I have ever done in my life. I needed the toilet at the same time so I was in there for around an hour. Eventually I made it to bed. I lost 5 hours that day because of that banana, never again!
I have had a mild reaction to melon and grapes as well. I would really like to know why but I can't face the pain of trying to ind out and doctors don't treat things like this seriously unless it is life threatening.

THANK GOD! I thought I was the only human with this affliction! I love bananas, but found that if I eat them, I will be doubled over in pain within an hour that will last for about 2 hours. At work today I couldn't figure out why I was experiencing similar, albeit milder, symptoms, even though I hadn't eaten banana. Then I read on the bag of pistacios I'd been eating all morning that they have the same potassium content as 1/2 of a large banana.

I guess my question is (after reading about small intestine cancer) has anyone else discovered other potentially serious ailments that this discomfort might suggest is present? Any feedback is greatly appreciated!

Its happened to me since I was a little kid. I didnt eat them for years until recently. Decided to give it another go. I tried just half of one and I was fine. But the second time I ate half of one I got sick. Today I took ONE BITE to give it one more try- and I really like them- my stomach cramped so bad- and I get sssooo bloated and constipated- I look like I am 4 months pregnant! Its crazy! The pain is horrid! Learned my lesson today- no more bananas. This also happens to me when I eat eggs.
Bananas are so healthy and a great way to lose weight- but they make me look pregnant so eating them to lose weight it pretty pointless to me- tho when I eat one I am usually not hungry for hours after that- but the pain and bloating is NOT worth it.

I have stomach ulcers and, despite reading that bananas can be beneficial for my condition, I have learned over the years to avoid them like the plague! The only thing I can think of is that bananas are loaded with potassim, and potassium is known to be rough on the tummy.

Allergic reactions to banana have been observed in those with latex hypersensitivity. The presence of cross-reacting IgE binding allergen epitopes in the banana fruit is considered by some as one cause. And said to share allergens with other fruits, like avocado and kiwi, that show antigenic relations to natural rubber latex, and with melon and ragweed pollen by cross reaction. Some others conclude that the protein found in banana called chitinase, causes the immune system in some individuals to overreact and treat the protein as harmful to your body. The protein called chitinase is also found in avocado and kiwi fruit. The immune system overacting to the banana protein chitinase. caused by Vaso-active amines. They argue that Vaso-active amines are histamine like substances that occur naturally in foods and can trigger symptoms that can mimic allergy reactions. Vaso-active amines are called histamine, phenyl-ethylamine, serotonin, tyramine and dopamine. Serotonin is found in banana, and the symptom of serotonine ingestion include cramping, flushing of the skin, headache, and heart palpitations. The severity of the symptoms is dependent on the amount the histamine like substance ingested and the lack of the histamine metabolizing enzyme diamine oxidase in the system. The so called food allergy or food intolerance reactions happen within a few minutes to hours after eating the bananas involving skin rash to cramps, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, runny nose, watery eyes, wheezing, coughing.

To my mind, the human body as well as the universe has come out from the basic five elements, The Ether, The Air, The Fire, The water and the Earth. The Spirit, the thoughts, metaphysics in the body are from Ether, The air causes all movements, and the fire causes the life, growth, metabolism, digestion; the water causes the shape, the liquids in the body, the thermostatus of the body in conjuction with fire etc. and the Earth is the fundamental structure involving all organs, the body, the bones, the nerves etc. Each substance we eat are the Earth part of the other bodies existing outside our body and those bodies contain all those that are inside our body. All those subtile particles that end in “IN” and “INE” are the Ether constituents within us as well as without or outside us. Therefore the enzymes like Hystamine(ending in INE) diamine, phenylethylamine, serotonin(ending in IN), tyramine, dopamine and all alkaloids and amines are Ether derivatives. They do the subtlest of the subtlest subatomic functions in the body. You would know that when a body which has B Blood group is ingested with AB or A or any other blood group of positive or negative qualities, the blood would straight away reject it, the reason being they are different and cannot be accepted though they are blood. Similarly, when A particular protein or Ether derivative in its subtlest form is ingested into a body which has a mutated form of the same present or not present in the body, the body will reject the ingested one with violent reactions. This cannot be termed in a vast and expansive nomenclature of ALLERGY as we do now and avoid taking that stuff, which will only increase the damage which the body has already and reach a stage of serious other maladies following it. Therefore, it should be concluded that there is a fundamental damage to that Ether derivative in the body which is assisting the assimilation of external ether derivatives supplemented to the body through food. That has to be corrected for proper assimilation. If the correction is done the so called allergy will vanish. Searching for the cause is not sufficient, understanding the body and correcting the fundamental imbalance is the key and the clue to permanent relief. If the Ether derivative is mutated, what could be the cause there. The cause would be the second Gross element i.e. the Air. The combination of Ether with Air in its subatomic proportion has gone wrong and if that proportion is corrected, the rejection by the body will stop and the body will start accepting the same banana which it once rejected. How do I know that it is the fundamental second element Air. It is because, you look at the reactions happening, remembering at the same time the basic function of the Gross element air in the body is movement. Movement includes the movement of the limbs, the movement of the mouth, eylids, the movement of the blood, the movement of protons, neutroms and all subatomic movements, each and every movement in the body will be included. The fundamental truth to note is that, Pain is always caused when the movement is stopped or restricted in the body. So, if there is pain in any part of the body, it should be invariably understood that the air movement has been stopped or restricted there. If there is paralysis, it means there is no air at all there. Water can reach only where there is air. If there is no air, there cannot be water too. If air is not there, blood cannot also be there. The portion therefore is paralysed or dead.

In the case in point, the first symptom is stomach ache, meaning there is a gastric derangement, normally called as gastralgia, then there is cramps which is again a shortening or inability to expand or contract the muscles, which are again movement restriction due to lack of air supply and consequent blood and nutrient supplies. Wheezing again is connected with air derangement. Now how to correct it naturally? The body has to correct it, no medicines of gross value can do it.. Because all medicines of gross preparation are of the Level of Earth among the five gross elements, while we are talking about higher elements of Air and Ether. We need to therefore raise the level of the medicine to that of subatomic characteristics. This fortunately can be done by potentizing the medicines and circumventing the circulatory system, we need to reach directly to the energy system of the body. The level in which the dopamine, serotonins etc. function, i.e. subtler than the neurotransmitter levels. Here we can fortunately go with homeopathic medicines. In the case of destention, stomach ache, flatulence, etc. caused by banana one can easily correct it by medicines like Lycopodium 200 single dose.

One should remember that most of these intolerances, allergies, mutations in genes from parent level passed on to the children level and further damaged by vaccinations are of iatrogenic reasons polluting the natural elements by their toxicities and should first be antidoted and corrected by medicines like Thuja, Nux Vomica, Natrum Mur, Calcarea Carb, Phosphorus, Sulphur, Pulsatilla etc. to achieve maximum benefits. In the case of Banana intolerance and stomach ache due to Banana, one single dose of Lycopodium 200 (three to five globules or 5 drops in one ounce of water ) would be sufficient to correct it. Thereafter take any number of bananas one may like to eat. For those who have anaphylactic reactions, banana itself may be potentised and used as test doses to eliminate the ferocity of the attack.

The above is my thoughts on the subject and should not be substituted for advise of qualified medical practitioner. Medicines should be used only in consultation with a Doctor.
