Hey guys, happened on this thread with lots of questions and no answers, we're all (most likely) suffering from acute PI-IBS and Small Intestenal Bacterial Overgrowth. I suffered for over a year until I finally got in to see Dr. Mark Pimentel who has written extensively on the subject and is a world-leading researcher on gut dysbiosis and motility.
The cure was a week of an antibiotic called "Rifaxamin" aka "Xifaxan" which has since become a standard for treatment of SIBO. I was also given another low-dose antibiotic (ererhromycin) for its secondary pro-kinetic effects. It took a little time for my motility to recover but it got me back to 100% after many months of mus-diagnoses and suffering. It's not anxiety, there is a physical root to the problem and it's tied to motility. Do some research and see a GI-motility specialist, general practitioners are utterly clueless about this since it's all relatively new medical science.
The downside is we're all at risk to develop these problems again anytime we get food poisoning and will need to repeat treatment (Rifaxamin isn't cheap). That's where I'm at now... But it's not as bad as the first time when I didn't understand why I was suffering-- I'm on a low FODMAP diet to relieve symptoms and I have an appointment scheduled.
Feel better guys! With a little work you'll all get back to normal.
