Yes Effexor causes hair loss. I've been taking it for 10 years now and my thick very long hair to my waist is no more. It is extremely thin and scraggly and seems to have to stopped growing. Effxor has ruined my life for the long 10 year's taking it. Just about every bad side effect listed I have. I've gone to doctor after doctor as instructed by my Primary Physician. My tests and problems found. I'm very sick, loss of coordination, vertigo, fainting, dyskinisia, kidney function is bad, GERD with extreme inflamation, hearing loss, blurred vision, abnormal sore healing, bad nose bleeds, nausea, vomiting dark fluid, etc.
I was just send to a Demotologist and he was the one who told I would need to see a Psychiatrist to help me get of the medications I'm on all caused from Effexor.
This is a drug that should have never been allowed to be used on humans. I would strongly suggest you go to your doctor and ask to be changed to another medication. The longer you take Effexor the worse you will feel and can get potententially life threatening diseases or side effects.
I'm getting off as soon as I can get an appointment with the Psychiatrist.
I wish you well....please think this over.
Thank you for writing this... yes it is taking time... ugly time... I had beautiful hair... I hope it grows back

I would like to preface this by saying I am not recommending this for anyone, as my circumstances were unusual, and, this is not just about Effexor, but here goes... In mid-December 2015, I became very ill with a intestinal virus,(I assume as I did not go to the doctor). I was so ill for several days that I only drank liquids and went off ALL my meds...Effexor, Levothyroxine and Lisinopril. It is mid-March 2016 and I have not taken any of them. I feel no more or less suicidal than I did on the Effexor. I just had my TSH checked and it is normal. My Doc said he would do the full panel but did not. My blood pressure is in the 140's over 80's. I am 5'2" and weigh 200 lbs...of course I am going to have high blood pressure. My biggest problem, besides my weight and depression is that my hair is falling out. It has gotten finer and finer over the years and is baby fine now. I used to have thick, corse, curly hair...until I was put on medications. The only reason I went back to my doctor is because my insurance would have charged me $500 extra on my deductible if I had not. I did want to find out about my thyroid, but again, I was disappointed that I did not have extensive testing for it. I believe I was misdiagnosed serveral years ago as, according to this doc, I was never pre-menopausal. I believe my FSH was confused with my TSH. When I told him I had not had periods since he put me on the levithyroxine, he told me women my age typically don't have periods...I have been on most of these meds for at least 10 years. I think Western Medicine is a crock when it comes to most of us, and it has gotten worse over the last decade or two. I do wonder if anyone else has had the same meds in combination.
And having tummy problems and more . So now coming of this
