It is rather late to reply to your post Greg O, but maybe better late than never. I had a similar problem with greenish brown mucus which I thought was partly due to my weight and what I was eating. I followed Patrick Holford's advice on lowering my homocysteine level for 2 months (mine was high I checked this with a blood test, then I retested my homocysteine level & it had reduced to within the normal range). High homocysteine is associated with about 50 different illnesses. The nasty mucous went away, & it has not returned in the past 10 months.

More recently I read a very convincing explanation of what was going on as the body becomes more stressed and less able to remove toxins (producing the nasty mucus amongst a host of other possible problems). See Chapter 2 The Dynamics of Healing/Illness in "The End of Medicine" by Kaare Bursell. Kaare Bursell was trained and practiced as a vet, before becoming a macrobiotic healing counselor. His book has convinced me I should try a macrobiotic diet to really root out the problem which he puts down to stagnating intestines. Everyone in the western world has stagnating intestines in his view - you probably need to read the book to be convinced :) There is plenty of free information on the web how to go macrobiotic. I think if one did this one would not need the Holford diet. Take your pick.

It sounds like acid reflux. I have it very badly. Try taking 150-300 mg of Zantac every night before bed and see if it clears up.

I have the same thing. Your description of this plug as coin-shaped is spot-on. I have a deviated septum and find that eating sweets, or dessert, or chocolate makes these plugs come out more frequently. My tonsils are healthy and I don't have a post-nasal drip. I have to snort backwards to get the plug down between the nasal cavity and the throat and then I spit it out. I guess I just feel it's disgusting, but glad others suffer from it too.

I thought I was the only one with this problem im 19 years old and have the same problem, I actually havent had them or spit them up in a good 8 months. But just about 4 days ago I ended up spitting one out and was frustrated because i thought I had gotten rid of them. So the past 4 days ive spit one out everyday and I when I dont spit it out I have major heartburn and cant breathe well sometimes ill spend and hour just trying to spit it out and then i feel like i can breathe so well. So i wae trying to figure out what I ate or what may be causing this to get it back again. 1 thing i noticed is I drank a cup of coffee at the local store which i havent in a while and then i started spitting it up. also for 2 days in a row i ate homeade chilli i dont normally eat it. the third thing is well its starting to get cold down here and a lot of ppl are getting sick and i woke up with a little cold and runny nose and spit it out. Im thinking for me personally its either that coffee drink or chili..i know how hard and irritaring it can be so im gonna not drink no coffee for 2 weeks and not eat chili or be around any smokers...so if i see my symptom goes away then i will let yall know how it went and if not then ill take some kinda of medicine for it like mucinex or something.

Sorry, but that is not the case. I get this too, but I have no tonsils.

the coffee may be the problem as the coffin helps in increasing the mucus and helps in its thickening so try to avoid the coffin rich drinks and food also the dairy products, i ve the same problem, and i tried many medications, try taking medications which help in dissolving the mucus

I have the same symptoms something's always in my throat. Hard to catch air sinus stuffed up mucus drainage throat feels tight food won't stay down so I'm throwing it up a lot. On hear give or take some real honesty I smoke I drink a bit and have did cocaine for yrs. so my nose f**ked up too and I'd say I have oral sex tasting both front end and back end or some women. Pay attention: I know for a fact that when u do some of all these things that plays a major factor in what the stuff in my throat feels like. The cocaine causes a yellowish extremely sticky thick like mucus or I'd say elastic like stuff that builds up and it's hard to swallow and cough up. Now give or take the way a person likes eats however u wanna call anal oral sex. rimming if u swallow whatever comes out (minus the poop of course) that's the stuff that keeps the poop together which is also extremely sticky and mucus like and hard to cough up so it drains and forms a sort of blockage over time. Just food for thought. But I also notice that when after using or sometimes not at all when I blow out what in my nose a lot of that blows down my throat and when I remove some of the boogers or scabs sometimes it goes to draining even more so causing me to feel as though I have to throw up sometimes to do but if I don't n go about my days over time eventually I have to throw it up because the food won't stay down which is very discomforting and hurts along w stomach acid. Word of advise be mindful n honest about what u doing if u really want help. It took yrs to to see a dr and they still telling me it's allergies, bacterial infections etc. although some of the bacterial meds do work we'll but u get the same results if u don't stop. I learn the hard way and I'm blessed to still be fine and healthy. So we think so far. I have yet to see if HPV has a roll to play in all this. But make sure u tell the dr. Everything ur going through because it just might be the missing answers to further research cures for something else. N yes I've been getting myself off of my old habits one day at a time.

Hi flipper I had the exact same thing a few months ago last year. But what was crazy is that I had the beginnings of a sore throat and was coughing up little bits of phlegm. When I went into a fit coughed this thing out I was so shocked... But that dry annoying cold like sore throat feeling I hD had , like onset of cold/sore throat, immediately stopped. I think it was the source of the dry horrible feeling at back of throat. Since then been trying to cough out something similar each time Ali have a slight throats sore but no kick. Just grateful to god it wants serious.

I don't think it's weight related. I weigh 110 and I have the same problem

Not weight, or cigarette related. I'm 120 pounds and never smoked in my life. I have no allergies. I drink coffee during the week at work, not on the weekend, but I still coughed up a rubbery brownish green disc shaped piece of flegm this morning, bout a half inch wide. I cough up flegm about twice a day. It's really annoying when I work because my job is on the phone and when there's a piece coming up, it effects my breathing and I have to get off the phone and run to my car to cough it out!! I did contract herpes about 6 years ago from my ex. It's strange because now I never get colds anymore, but I do have this flegm problem! Perfectly healthy otherwise. Wonder if herpes can cause it.
