This can't be if you have had your tonsils removed. I have this problem, my tonsils have been gone for 25 years.

I also have this but didn't start till I had a tooth pulled in back of my mouth. So I have been gargling with mouthwash no results yet. :(

I get the same thing sometimes, it usually happens when I get a cold. I also get tonsil stones quite often and by God, they do smell awful. There are two things I would suggest to get a definitive answer for you mucus and tonsil stone problem: buy a couple of small vials (with caps) and next time you get that mucus or tonsil stone, put it in the vials and bring it to your doctor.

You might need a c-pap to use at night when you sleep and you might need another pulmonilogist!!

The neti pot works wonders - BUT (I wish I knew this sooner) it works best when, after placing the water in sinus, you hold the nostril shut, allowing the water to be in there (on both sides - not a lot, just comfortable amount), and then lay on a bed on your back with head over the side for 20-30 seconds - **then flip over, holding front of head over the edge of the bed** - for even 15 seconds - it absolutely dislodges stuff that using the pot in the "regular" way does not. It absolutely has changed my life. That horrid feeling you have when it is building up in there and pressing on the sinus cavity.

I get the same thing. I get a burning sensation high up in the back of my throat, then I feel like there is something caught back there. A little while later I'm able to hack it out. It's a flat, semi-hard, but sticky, greenish brown thing about the size of a dime. It started 3 years ago, about a month after I had my tonsils and adenoids removed. The ENT scoped me and said it looked like the area where my adenoids were wasn't healing. He gave me antibiotics which helped for about 3 weeks. Went back again and the ENT admitted that he'd never seen anything like it. Gave me a longer course of antibiotics, which again, only helped temporarily. I'm wondering if it's some chronic bacterial infection I acquired during the surgery. I realize not everyone with this issue has had their adenoids removed, but I'm sure that area can get infected on anyone.

This isn't tonsil stones. It is actual mucus coughed up in the morning. It is chaped and dark colored. Tonsil stones are off white. Usually not coughed up.
