Hey guys

I have the same problem.

There's nothing to worry about. I got mine fixed and went away pretty quickly.

I went to a energy healer and I had an appointment with him.

He just released negative energy out of my tonsils and out of my body.

More specific, I went to a person who is certified in Body Codes. I had 3 appointments and the problem went away. You have the appointments over the phone so it makes it easy. You don't have to travel to the person. If you want to go to them in person you can.

I get that several mornings a week. It's almost like a scab. Flat, firm and sometimes almost the size of my pinky fingernail. Did you ever get any answers as to what it is?

When the thin, delicate mucus membrane lining your sinuses/nasal passages gets TOO dried-out while you sleep, it can cause some of the tiny blood vessels there to rupture. (Ever wake up with a little bit of dried blood in one or both nostrils? Or blow your nose first-thing in the morning and see red-tinted snot in your tissue? -- well, now you know why.)

These ruptures usually only release a tiny amount of blood, which then mixes with trapped mucus to create the brown color you've been seeing. Extra-thick/sticky/solid mucus and/or sputum, blood vessels rupturing within the sinus cavity, and brown-colored expectorate are ALL textbook symptoms of dehydration: both environmental (i.e. "external," to wit, "impaired mucus production resulting from extended exposure to dry climate conditions") AND intracorporeal (i.e. "internal," to wit, "not drinking enough water to maintain healthy hydration levels") in origin.

You should be able to alleviate your symptoms considerably (if not entirely) just by increasing your water intake and sleeping near a humidifier (you could also just place a large bowl of water in front of a fan in lieu of using a humidifier, but it's not quite as effective). Avoid antihistamines and decongestants, as these will further dry-out your sinuses/nasal passages, thereby exacerbating the problem and prolonging your recovery.

Allow a couple of weeks for your body to reach/adjust to/maintain a consistent state of proper hydration. If your symptoms persist beyond the 2-week recuperation period, consult a physician.

Good luck to you. I wish you a full & speedy recovery.

There are multiple potential causes for this, tonsil stones are only one but you can see tonsil stones in your tonsils or phlegm. They are white. Brown mucus can be caused by dryness/blood (see above) and it can be caused by GERD, stomach acid washing up the esophagus as you sleep. That's why alot of people are 'thinking' it's food/weight related.

Hi, I think the difference is if you read this post, its coming from the back of the sinuses. I can actually feel the small clumps back there and do the nasal throat thing and spit it out. This just started . Actually this morning is the second time, the first time there was two small clumps about the size of a curd of large cottage cheese but almost rubbery feeling. It has the color of mushrooms, that brown/yellow/green color sort of.

I just had a horrible experience with a big hard ball looggie stuck in the back of my throat and I live alone it was 4 am and I almost panicked because I couldnt run to my neighbors for help with this. I thought it would choke me. I opened the internet to see if anyone can help me. I want to thank all of you for your comments. You just dont know how relieved I was to see what you all wrote. The part where someone wrote about choke. Made me laugh out of joy and I knew I was going to be fine. It truly is a horrible feeling cause its your throat where you breath. Where you can die if it gets blocked. I will start drinking 8 glasses of water a day. This happened a few years ago. I spit it up. This time I swallowed it which I wanted to avoid that c**p going through my system. email me. Id like to hear from you.

Could these chunks that people are coughing up be parasites?

It's not tonsil stones. Stones come from the tonsils not the throat itself and don't contain mucus. Also stones are not bacteria they are particles of food that get built up. I have the same issue. The hardened phlegm is from the mucus drying while you sleep. Nasal strips help you breath through you nose instead of your mouth thus decrea sing the hardening of the mucus. If it's yellow or green in color you should get antibiotics. If it's brown it's normally caused from smoking, chocolate, coffee, or soda.
