Hey College student....
If you have weird looking masses of solid snot (mucus balls), random pains in your sides that come and go, if you find you cough more than others, but have been doing it so long you no longer notice, or cough up thick, slim like mucus, and have ever had bouts of pneumonia or bronchitis ...PLEASE, get yourself checked for Cystic Fibrosis
I waited 11 years, and finally found out that's what was wrong....
If you have strange symptoms like these, go see your Doctor, and don't ask...TELL THEM
..."I want to be checked for CF".....

1) Have a tissue ready and/or stand near the sink. Make sure you aren't in a gaggy predisposition when you do this. Once the mucus becomes dislodged it will start to slide down your throat.
2) Press the mid/back of your tongue to the roof of your mouth near the back, focusing on the point where your bone starts to become softer flesh. If you do this right, you can often actually feel the hard mucus clump moving in your sinuses.
3) If you are familiar with how to do a snort/inhale to clear liquid mucus down the throat, you can try this with your tongue pressed relatively hard to this area. You should already be able to tell that more liquid mucus is drained down your throat when you position your tongue in this way.
4) If you are familiar with how to clear your throat the gross way, like how an athlete or some guy smoking cigarettes outside of a bar does it, use this to clear the liquid mucus. Not sure how to describe this but it sounds almost like a growl. It's only important if you plan on removing the hard clump of mucus without swallowing it or coughing. So step 3 and 4 are just practice rounds, because I know the "uh oh" feeling I get when the hard clump comes out and I'm not ready.
5) Press your tongue to that spot at the top of your mouth relatively hard. Now gently blow air out of your nose. There should be a lot of resistance, the air should almost stutter out, kind of like air escaping through a pinched balloon. The spot where the air passage is tight is where the dried up mucus resides. As soon as you feel something very weird, an "uh oh" feeling, that probably means the dried mucus is dislodged and is heading down your throat. (If this hasn't happened yet, make sure your tongue is in the right place, pressing relatively hard, and that when you blow air out of your nose the air passage is tight enough. It takes experimenting.)
6) As soon as the dried mucus is dislodged, it will start sliding down your throat. Start to clear your throat in that gross way, but slowly, you are trying to catch it. If it starts to enter your mouth, good, use your tongue to create a suction, or to just wiggle it, into your mouth. Then spit it out if you succeed. The goal is to have the dried up mucus go from your sinuses directly to the tongue. If it makes contact below, deeper in your throat, you may be forced to make the choice of swallowing it or coughing it up. If you know that the dried mucus is dislodged but it is not sliding down your throat, then inhale through your nose SLOWLY.
I don't think that a person can choke from these but please be careful. I'm not a doctor. This works for me 100% of the time now. I discovered it accidentally when I tried to stop myself from sneezing and it dislodged the mucus. I can use this method every 2-3 days now and it works every single time. Practice certainly helps.
As a result, I just go about my normal routine and clear the dried mucus when I feel it has built up. No need for nasal sprays or anything. It's awesome.
