I've had what the doctor thinks is a neuroma in my upper abdominal wall area for about six or so years now (since a serious car accident---the neuroma is right where the seatbelt was pressing). We tried injections which didn't work. I'm thinking of having it removed surgically because the pain prevents me from a lot of exercise I enjoy and also need for physical therapy. Q: has anyone had this surgery? How did they recover? Anything else I can try? Any risks with the surgery? Can these ever be malignant in this area? Thank you so much! Mira

I have been suffering from this for years as well. When they did my hystorectomy, they tried to get the effected area, but were not successful. Had many shots and still have pain. Did you eventually have this surgery? If so, did it help?

I have had abdominal neuromas removed 4 times without success. I have chronic pain that has left me disabled. I had an IPG stimulator implanted in my upper abdomen with 2 electrodes to the affected area. This does help some, about 50%.
I am on a strong narcotic along with Neurontin. this is as good as it can get for me.
I hope this helps.

I have an abdominal neuroma following a hystertectomy 3 years ago. Somedays the pain is unbearble, but nothing seems to trigger the pain, it just comes and goes. Does any one else have that? I am never without pain, but a good day sees me forgetting about it, a bad day feels like I am going through the surgery again without the luxury of an anaesthetic. I have had steriod injections (which hurt more tahn benefitted) have tries amytriptyline, Gabapentin and am now on pregabalin. I take diclofenac and co-codamol when really bad but this does not seem to take control of it. I have tried TENS and emla cream but to no avail either. Anyone have any experiences that might help me please?

I feel I could have written this myself, it is so similar to my experience. I had injections and various tablets and am now on pregabalin. I also have topical lidocaine for the worst area. I am looking for abdominal exercises that don't cause a) agony and b) a long recovery back to 'normal' pain.
