As mentioned above, I have been experiencing a wide range of symptoms with no real explanation for any of them.
I am a female, non-smoker, about to turn 18, and a couple of years ago I started to become very tired all the time and was experiencing unrefreshing sleep. I also began to cry over things that did not warrent crying over, but could not do anything about it, and experienced severe mood swings. I dismissed it as just being a teenager until my fatigue turned into insomnia. I went to the doctor and she made me fill in a questionaire which resulted in me being told I was depressed and prescribed with fluoxetine. I didn't think I was depressed but trusted my doctor and took them for a year before we came to the conclusion that they were not helping either.
I also visited the doctor about constant back and neck pain. I was experiencing excruciating pain from my lower back, right the way up to the base of my skull, and across my shoulder blades. She diagnosed me with mild scoliosis but said that even with socliosis, I shouldn't be in the amount of pain I am.
After finding no explanation for these problems, I have recently began to experience other confusing health problems.I have been getting sick A LOT. Sore throat, runny nose, cough - you name it. My mum made me take a large range of vitamins and other pills to try help stop me from being sick (multi-vitamin, vitamin c, vitamin d, iron tablets, fish oil) but they didn't seem to help either. I then began to feel very itchy all the time and began getting ear infections regularly.
And just when I thought I had every kind of problem I could get, I began experiencing sharp chest pains on the left side of my chest (by my heart), chronic headaches, dizziness, and shortness of breath (I feel like I am not quite using my lungs to their full capacity and I crave the large, full breaths that only come with yawning or sneezing)
I visited the optometrist and was prescribed glasses for reading and computer usage that were supposed to stop the headaches but they haven't helped much either. I then went to the doctor and he could not find anything wrong with me that would explain these symptoms but did ask me if I was aware that I had a heart murmur - which I was not.I was told at a young age that I had asthma and was prescribed an inhaler which my mum never let me use, but my doctor has now informed me that my lungs appear to have nothing wrong with them.
My doctor has contacted the hospital for further tests to determine if my heart is okay, but the waiting list is so long that I can't even get an appointment for 3-5 months and I don't think I can go on like this for that much longer as it is affecting my school work and social life.
Does anyone know what is wrong with me or can anyone offer any help? I'm desperate!
Hello, Mia,
Your case sounds a lot like mine did years ago. Please look into Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. Feel free to message me, also.
Take care,
Brandi
I have almost every single one.
Thank you so much, I will be sure to mention this to my doctor when I next go.
I really appreciate your help!
Of course, I am not a doctor, so perhaps I am wrong and you do not have POTS. However, given what you described, I think it is worth consideration.
Just bear in mind that VERY few doctors know of or know how to treat POTS, so let me know if you need additional help. If you don't mind me asking, where are you located?
Stay in touch!
