Hi, I have been experiencing swelling on the left side of my neck for the pass 30 years, I mean at times it is like a golf ball. I have had ever test possible in the past when I had insurance.  But, nothing never showed up for a reason for this swelling, the doctors said I had an extra verterbrae but that wouldn't cause my pain & swelling.  Well, now that I have went thru menopause & stuff & have had mono a few years ago, I don't never feel rested,  I have a really hard time going to sleep, then when I do get to sleep I don't want to get up because I always feel so tired.  I also have a headache 24 hours a day sometimes really bad others not as bad but have one all the time.  They say I have migraines & stress & allergys. Of course they only want me to get allergy medicine across the counter.  I think it may help keep my headaches from a 10 to a 6 or7 part of the time.  But, I always have the pain in my neck & have at least a 6 or 7 headache on my best days.  And at this time I am one of the uninsured in America so I get let them fool with alot of test & stuff, plus they have done them years ago with no answers.

I am a 31 year old female with a long history of this stuff. No answers have been forthcoming for me either.

It started when I was really young. Sick constantly, the doctors Put a perverbial bandaid on it.  Antibiotics filled me. But it was only after a terrible case of farengitis ( means REALLY REALLY SWOLLEN THROAT GLANDS) That something hit me that never stopped. It all started with Tiredness. Always. Sleep or no sleep, Day or not. I never feel awake. I never feel like I have any get up and go anywhere. Every doctor I told brushed it aside. More bandaids , more pats on the head. I was left to take care of it myself. And as the time turned the list got worse. Shoulder Pain , Sinus Problems, Dizziness, Shortness of Breath, Extreme Acid problems, Depression, Extreme Nervous Fits, vision and reading problems, Intestinal Issues, Pounding heart fits, and Neck pain. There has not been an answer yet. I am a smoker, but these problems started way before I ever began. No one will tell me anything, and Bandaids over infection won't make it go away. Being 31 now....I have almost given up hope . No one can give me any answer. Half the time they don't even bother sending me for extra tests. I have nearly lost faith in the medical Profession at this point. I am close to not going to doctors anymore. I'm just so ...tired of getting no where......

Have you had any antibiotics? Could it be tick fever?

hi there,
This will appear to be very strange, but please ask your doctor to refer you for a SLEEP STUDY. You may have sleep aponea. It is impossible to give you reasons as to if you have it, but after years and years of suffering, this saved my life, and that of a friend of ours.
Please start there! You will not regret it.

Check out Candida Support groups/symptoms on the internet...you could be dealing with a Candida/yeast imbalance as your symptoms sound similar to a Candida disorder...good luck on your road to wellness...it is always challenging indeed, but I have come to learn that most MD's don't understand the mind/body connection when it comes to optimum health.  Stress alone can cause the body to have all kinds of challenges....almost 97% of all illness is stress related...good luck in your research...also check out Lisa Richards, medical researcher and journalist for info and support.

HI,
I too, had a swelling on my left side of my neck. I had scans etc etc., and no one could help me. It wasn't that sore, but I certainly knew it was there.

NOW..... and I know this sounds really bizzare, but........ I suffered from dry mouth for years due to medication. To help to alleviate this problem, I started chewing gum.

YUP....it was the chewing that caused a swelling in my mandibular joint . It took me years to realise this but I stopped the gum when I was in hospital for a fortnight (for a different problem) and my neck improved. Within a week, all back to normal. I then started chewing again, and the problem continued. I have since found that provided I gave myself a break between each day - i.e., one day chew, next day not, and so on - no swelling. Continually sucking lollies would cause the problem too.
With the headaches....are you addicted to over the counter paracetamol (or other painkiller) ?? Don't knock this.....You take paracetamol because you have a headache...it goes away....but then it causes another one...and you take paracetamol...and so the cycle begins. I had these for 12 years and was taking 10-12 tablets a day. It was hard to give them up because of the headaches, but after three days without them - gone!!!

I hope this all helps you. Good Luck!

Ever hear of Chiari malformation??? Not saying that's what I think you have but sounds like it could be a possibility. I have been having a lot of symptoms for many years and was finally introduced to a Dr. who doesn't just treat symptoms but actually tries to figure out the root cause of your symptoms. He feels pretty confident that I have Chiari but I have not had an MRI yet to confirm. After doing quite a bit of research...I think he may be right. I was amazed to see that most of the symptoms I have been having can all be linked to Chiari. I had gotten to the point where I felt like I was making something out of nothing but now I feel like I have a reason for everything I have been experiencing. It all seems to make sense now. :)

I have been having exactly the same symptoms and I have found that 2 Excedrin Migrane pills will help with the headaches for a couple of hours at a time and then they come back and I take more. I know that is no cure at all, constant pills just to get through the day but it does help a little bit. I am still constantly fatigued. I have no energy whatsoever, but since the headaches started along the base of the skull and behind the ears that has been the worst part.

These symptoms sound very much like what some of our family members were experiencing for years.  Please check for Celiac Disease and food sensitivities.  98% with Celiac Disease are not diagnosed properly.  Do a search on Celiac Disease and see if your symptoms are in line with this disease.  It is an autoimmune genetic disease.  Good luck
