Several years ago I used to have severe heart pounding in my head, many a night I would get up to see who was jackhammering during the night. It turned out that I had high BP 190/130 but this is well under control.
I was sure that it was my BP again but it was normal @ the Dr.'s last week. I bought a good BP monitor 2 days ago, normal to a little low.
I've recently been having the Heartbeat Pounding in my Head, no pain, at times it gets so loud I can't stand it. It goes thru my whole head but mainly at the top front orbital area.
My bld. work is normal, tested reg. as I have Diabetes 2, unfortunately quite overweight but that is very slowly coming down.
I mentioned it to the Nurse last week but since I had laryngitis she probably didn't hear me.
I don't recall when this started, have been sick with an Upper Resp. Tract Infection by 2 1/2 + months. Sure it started before.
Actually I found it quite reassuring that others have this, although a little concerned that my bld work is ok so anemia is out, I think. It usually happens while in bed but right now it's beating like crazy, enough to drive me crazy.
I had been taking Diabetic multivitamin & minerals but stopped when I ran out of it. I don't recall having the pounding while on that so maybe it's related?
I don't want to go back to the Dr., I am seeing him in 2 months anyway & since most think it may be due to iron that maybe I should go back on vitamins & document it so that if it improves I can tell the Dr. when I go, if it doesn't maybe go in earlier????
Sorry if this is too long or jumbled, my 1st posting on this site. What do you think? Thanks, Susan
I have had all these symtoms, I have Fibroymalgia and TMJ..I also have lots of allergies/sinus problems...I do not take RX drugs made it worst...I also have a stone in my ear...which causes vertigo...allergy pills seem to help, find the right ones, plus premixed saline spray....
Hi Susan, If I keep my iron up I don't get the symptoms of pounding in my head. My blood test does not show my iron low when I get the symptoms so I must need more iron than the test shows. Be careful because too much iron is not good either. If I were you I would go back to the vitamins since they worked for you. Good luck with getting the weight down and controlling the type 2 diabetes, I am sure that will help. I try my darndest to eat well but it is not so easy since I travel so much and eat out a lot. Take care!
I know what you mean. I would describe it as being very 'aware' of your heartbeat. In my case it was stress related, specifically anxiety at an extreme level. It will stop but you just have to concentrate on something else. Also it can be a side effect of meth.(crystal) and other stimulants. You may need some type of anti-anxiety meds. This gets into benzos, xanax, etc. and that's what they treat, so be careful.
Thanks for responding, I haven't responded to the other people as been too busy, I'm not sure if this
response will be seen by the others or not, hopefully so as it was great that they responded.
I had my Ferritin checked as some said they found that it was due to low iron, that was normal.
The pounding is constantly there, driving me insane at night. Of course it's worse during stress,
which I've had alot of lately, but then my heart is beating faster during those times. Luckily BP now good.
The Dr. went over all my meds & nothing I take causes it.
I am going for an MRI later this month just to rule out anything. Don't think they'll find anything as no
other symptoms. If normal, I guess I'm just going to have to learn to live with it. Will not take any
other meds for this.
Not looking forward to MRI as I have claustrophobia at times. Hopefully the music choices are
good as that helps, also will take an antianxiety pill prior.
Instead of taking medications for anxitey try sitting for 30 minutes each day and clear your mind, like meditation. It is really hard to do at first, I know first hand. If you believe in prayer, pray, otherwise just sit and let your mind be free from thought. It works!
Thanks for responding.
I do try other methods but if you're out in public some things don't work, also
having an MRI would be one time I'd take 1 as I have to listen to the Technician
& you (I) can't concentrate on yourself when you do that.
Anyway meds don't have anything to do with the pounding in my head. In a
way I wish it did as then I'd cut that med. out.
i have been wakeing up in the morning and i have this horrible pain on the side of my head like where that vein is and my heads just pounding and hurting to where i have to lay back down and have a migrain also most of the day i cant get rid of.. does anyone know why or what this could be and why its happening? any input would be great. thanks
THANKS TO ALL THE INFORMATION, I REALLY APPRECIATE THE INPUT
My iron level can read normal also, but if I take my iron the pounding stops. (go figure) I stop taking the iron until the pounding starts again and repeat. Sometimes it takes months and sometimes weeks.
And, when I talk about the meditation I don't mean once in a while. You have to be disciplined and do it for 30 minutes every day, preferably in the morning. Wake up 30 minutes before your normal routine. You will find it AMAZING, if you do it!
Good Luck! C
Mammers.
I have the same problem. Have had it for years and it has recently gotten worse. Doctors don't seem to pay attention to this much. I had to tell a health provider that it was pulsitile tinnitis. I just listen when I want to take my pulse. It is always right on with the pulse reading I take with my fingers or my bp machine. It has always been loud, now it is even louder. It seems more on the left side, and I get the sense, that like yours, it is in the back. I had a neck ultrasound and my arteries were clear. I have always had low blood pressure. Most people I hear complaining of this have high blood pressure, but mine is always very low. Yesterday was 109/57, pulse 70. I am slim. I hear people all over the net complaining of this, but no doctors ever answer. Mine wants me to get a c scan, which is an xray, but I am not going to have my brain irradiated, esp. not at my age. X-rays, esp to sensitive areas like the brain, and esp. with older folks, cause cancer. An mri is as good or better, but more expensive. If doctors would take this condition seriously, I think they would go with the mri, but they don't.
We are not supposed to be able to hear our heart beat. Please, everyone, let me know of anything you learn about this condition.
Many thanks.
Miriam - in case you still check out this site: I too have been chronically anemic and underactive thyroid, get the pusle in my head, etc. Have you tried Lugol's iodine for your thyroid? It's amazing - have been on it for 6 weeks and am feeling much better, more energy, sleeping better. You'll need to take selenium methionine and zinc methionine as well if you take Lugol's. Google it for more info, if you are interested. Hope you feel better!
THAT IS CRAZY THEY HAVE YOU ON ALL THAT TERRBLE MEDICINE. YOU NEED TO PURSUE OTHER DOCS. yOU ARE TOO YOUNG TO BE ON THAT STUFF. wHEN DOCS DONT KNOW, THEY SAY ANXIETY/
