I am in Canada too and have suffered for the past 31 years with hives, angioedema and severe heartburn. I have been in complete remission a few times; three of these were during pregnancies. I have been on Xolair for 1.5 years and it is seems to be working. But last night, out of the blue, I had a bad bout of heartburn, hives and swelling. It is so frustrating, painful, exhausting and demoralizing.

Hi, i also get hives the following day after drinking. Also, when i am rundown/unwell , stressed or tired.

I consulted a specialist who advised this is consistent with auto-immune urticaria. Basically, some type of 'leaky pipe' that kicks in when your immune system is activated.

Nothing completely cures the hives however i have been able to manage the itching a little bit.

I was prescribed Hydrozyzene Hydrochloride anti histamine tablets which i take at night. As well as cetirizine hydrochloride.

I used to 'party/drink' frequently - same as your self (lads holidays etc). Unfortunately, nothing has managed to prevent the inevitable outbreak after the night out or holiday i'm afraid. It has been a case of don't drink or don't go; or just deal with a major outbreak after the event for a week or two which gradually subsides.

It is a very irritating condition which can drive you mad so i know what you mean about it being worst thing in the world.

Maybe try the tablets i take....hopefully they will help.

I am posting here as I hope this will help someone else... I have been suffering with hives for over a year and a half now... I have tried everything... eating a clean diet... no sugar, milk, processed foods ir fruit... I did see an improvement if I do not eat these foods... but the moment I would have any of the abive foods I would break out in hives again... I have been supplementing with a multivitamin, omega 3 and additional vitamin c, d and b's since my hives began..... 3 weeks ago I started supplementing with Magnesium... and slowly upping my dose... and also adding mineral drops to my water... AMAZING difference... 99 percent of the hives are gone... I am on vacation and eating a lot of things that normally would cause hives.... and I have almost zero hives!!!! Try magnesium and mineral supplements.... I am so thankfull for magnesium!!!! I feel like I have my life back!!!! My hives started shortly after I had a bad stomach bug... and a lot of people say their hives are worse when they excercise or are dehydrated... read up in Magnesium and give it a try!

I too have an outbreak that is driving me crazy. I am trying to figure it out also. The one thing I’m thinking is the hot showers (dehydration) I will try tomorrow if I can get some sleep... the heat just accelerates the hives at nighti have them on my hands and my knee (crazy places). When I was 7 til about 14 I had a bad bad case in the soles of my feet... the dr determined that it was the heat. Talk about crazy. My hands swell from me scratching. I wake up In The muddle of the night scratching. I’m just trying to figure it out... I feel your pain on this.

I have severe chronic urticaria, and believe the only cure is sunlight. Mine condition goes away for about 2-3 months in the summer as im from NY. Also, a temporary fix is ascorbic acid 2-3 gram dose. Oral vitamin d does not help, the sun does somehing to deactivate the immune system in your skin from my observation. Tanning beds dont help as they are almost all UVA only. If you find one that has UVB also, I bet that would help. Also check to make sure it isnt your blood sugar being instable .

Hello. I'm a fellow sufferer of chronic hives too. Medically known as urticaria. I do agree with most of what you said and your knowledge on the subject is quite dense and adequate. Also I would like to add that hives in most cases is genetic, similar is the case with me. My maternal side has/had it. Also hives are seasonally affected too. Like whenever winters start and winters here is harsh enough but I can't later up. As extra layers and all make me break into urticaria. Direct sun also exasperates the situation. In any case I've realised whenever the season, environ, stress and all these kick in and I keep on getting hives every other day and it takes at least half a day to heal; these moments I try to counteract by going on a 10 day course of both Zyrtec and Zantac as they each cater to each different kind of histamines. Also alcohol plays a huge role. Quite similar to your condition after a night of debauchery n merry making I wake up covered with this satans rash! So check your hydration levels keep well hydrated at night and during sleep.. And drink in moderation and stop drinking at least an hour before passing out so you can use that hour to mitigate the hydration levels and fall asleep when you've been sufficiently hydrated.. Hope you can fight this and become better..

I relate totally to hear stories regarding the James reagan Inn to think I was allergic to everything in the house everything that I was doing I would get an edge scratch it and it would raise up the other day when I wore my tennis shoes the pressure on the soul cause my feet swell like welts on the bottom I have been tolerating the condition and trying to eliminate possible allergens but when it struck my feet and it was painful to walk for a day that freaked me out
someone said it could be dermatographia which can because my emotions allergens and other sources but can't be pinned down
my most recent self diagnosis is dehydration and electrolyte in balance I plan to get a blood test tomorrow to see if something shows up there
such as that
horrible because you know you're going to get a raised hive welt if you scratch an itch
I totally get what you're saying about trying everything not sure of what is the cause or what is going to help the histamine factor not knowing if something in the histamine releases wrong or if you need more there's just so many possible causes and it makes one miserable agitated disoriented and unable to focus on your daily routine or even be happy
I am planning the bloodwork tomorrow I don't want to have hundreds of invasive medical test so I will first let them look at the blood and see if there's an indicator there as to why this would be happening
I consider it an acute situation but it could be a long-term thing that led up to this I do not know but I have total compassion for you and your struggle and couldn't agree more that it's one of the worst things that could happen to a person

I can't believe nobody has posted about the link between Chronic Urticaria and H Pylori. The gastro nurse said she'd never seen so many people with hives who had H Pylori. I am currently in day 4 of a strong treatment for it. The hives are still there, but here's hoping they go away. Never had hives before in all my 68 years till last year. Not allergic to anything they've checked. And although they said stress it's the same level of stress I've always had.

When I got 41 years old I got hives and they are still here (I'm 53 and 8 months old now). How can I cure hives from my skin? I don't even take medicine or vitamin for that.

I am having hive outbreaks for over 3 months now. Like a two here a three there and some major outbreaks, all over my body. My pattern is like this.
1. Feeling extremely dry, like inside out. I can feel the inside of my body drying out. There is an itchy anus, a discomfort in the food pipe. Then the outbreak begins and keeps spreading as long as I don't get my hands on water. Antihistamine won't prevent or cure my hives. They only go away when I drink huge amounts of water. Also when the hives start to disappear I have pain under my nails and on the sides of the nail. Like a strange ache.

I haven't identified a physical trigger, thoughg I ran quite a few tests. But they would definitely appear after a stress or dehydration episode
