I too had implants put in july 28th and two weeks later woke up with my palms itching. I thought to myself maybe I should go buy a lottery ticket. I finally got up and looked in the mirror and I had this rash down my arms and down my sides.I went to the doctors, she said I have hives. I asked her why do I have hives and she told me its from stress. I never had hives ever in my life. I asked her if it could be from my saline implant and she said no. She gave me some meds and still does not help. I still have hives and the swelling on my lips and eyes. This is crazy that breast implants can cause this. I had this feeling that the implants caused this reaction. what else could of given me these hives. They just will not go away. Doctors need to let the implant companies know this and find away to take care of this matter.

I too have hives. I had saline implants put in on July 18th. Two weeks later I woke up from itchy palms. I thought to myself at the time maybe I should go buy myself some lottery tickets. But instead I got up to take a shower and happen to look in the mirror and found welps all over my arms and down my sides. I went to the doctor and was told it was hives. I asked her what from and she told me from stress. Which I have had alot going on but, I've been stressed before and worse and never had hives. I also asked her if it could be from my implants and she said no. I also went to an allergy specialist and asked him the same question and he told me no too. But I knew in the back of my mind this has to be what its from. One of my good friends sister just had breast cancer and a implant put in and after that surgery she got hives. So what does that tell us? That implants are giving us a reaction. the implant companies have to know. How can all of these women have hives about the same time after the implants and doctors and implant companies do not know? To this day I have swelling on my face, lips and eyes and itch all over like crazy. Nothing seems to get rid of these darn things. What else can be done without taking them out? %-)

In response to guest guest posted 3.6.08. The problem with American society is that we are too quick to blame others for our shortcomings, misfortunes and misgivings. Guest guest blames the development of her Lupus on, of all things, SALINE breast implants. This type of implant was NEVER considered by the FDA to be the cause of lupus. In addition, since the FDA placed a moratorium on SILICONE gel implants in 1992, many large epidemiologic studies from very reputable Medical Centers, such as The Mayo Clinic and Massachusetts General Hospital System, studying tens of thousands of women, both with and without implants, have shown that there is no causative effect of silicone gel filled implants on lupus and other diseases. In other words, the women afflicted with these diseases would have developed the disease whether they had silicone implants placed or not. This extensive scientific data has resulted in the FDA reapproving silicone gel filled implants for general use. Guest guest is a prime example of such a person. The fact that she had allergies and asthma before her implants suggests that she was destined to develop lupus regardless of her breast surgery. It's time that we accept our genetics and our environment as it is, as the most likely culprit for these devastating diseases, stop blaming doctors, and breast implants and take responsibility for our own actions and decisions.

I began to get hives almost immediately after surgery, and would periodically, especially when warm break out with those underarm hives. Haven't had them since they were removed. In my case to the surgeon denied any correlation...... They are dirty foreign objects and I don't miss them. I use the chicken cutlets under clothing now.

Thirteen days ago I had my over the muscle implants removed & under implants put in with a lift. Two postop I began a skin rash with I rationalized was a reaction to antibiotic & took myself off of it. Called my doctor to report it. I am 13 days postop & covered shoulders to knees with hives. Now I understand when people go mental due to a physical condition that invades their minds. I have reported the severity to my doctor & he has recommended an anti-fungal thinking its a skin yeast infection. Never heard of that. I go see him tomorrow & am praying for a miracle. Never had a problem with my old implants. Mmmm, don't try to make it better?! I learned a very expensive leasson.

Just two days after breast aug I began a skin rash that I thought was due to antibiotic. I took myself off the antibiotic & 9 days later the rash was so bad I couldn't sleep. After a few phone calls to my breast aug doctor & him seeing the rash.....he said it was a skin yeast infection. Mmmm. I began spraying myself with Lamisil (taken orally damages your liver). I have to say that 3 days after an initial spray I have come along way. Not normal yet, but the hives have really subsided, still rashy looking. But the itchy is 99.9% gone. My solution for you.....Lamisil spray form (dont iritate your skin any further than it already is). :-D

Hi, it is now 2 weeks since I had my 18 year old, above the muscle, 550cc saline implants removed due to neck and shoulder problems. I now have 225cc silicone implants placed above the muscle. I opted not to have a lift since my surgeon and I thought my skin might tighten up. Well folks...I now have ugly, savere rippling breast. To top it off, I have broken out in a horrible rash. I hope it is just the warm weather. I don't have allergies. I am a health NUTTTTTTT!!! I kinda wish I hadn't stumbled upon this site because my fear is that my body is rejecting the implants. Everyone seems to have a sad story. I'm really scared. I see my PS tomorrow and I don't think I will sleep tonight.

i HAD IMPLANTS (silicone) over 2-1/2 weeks ago and I was fine until one week after and have had severe itching hives all over my body and when I itch it I get raised skin hives in the area I itched in the shape of my nails scratching the area. My body feels like its attacking itself and it must be the implants and my bodies reaction to them. I have read enough to know I should have them removed/replaced but would saline implants be any better or is it a sensitivity to the lining of the implants???.....

, fake metals or low quality metals give me a bad rash like never before and I heard that the lining of implants have a small amount of platinum metals in the material, I havent tried gold or silver or platinum to see how I react to them now, but I do have more sensitivity to metal on my skin. It is a living hell and my concentration has diminished and I get fatigued very easily now. I first thought it was medication induced from antibiotics so i stopped taking them but have not gotten better. I also have gotten sick from the stress of the hives and have a bad cold and started getting symptoms of ear infection and my eyes produce a small amount of crust overnight. Something is wrong and it has to be the implants, I am sure of it. Don't want to have them removed but I hope it will help my symptoms if I do. I don''t want to just take zyrtec my whole life just to alleviate an underlying problem that could last the rest of my life.

I have the exact symptoms of everyone here and I never had this before my implants. Can anyone update me on if removal has helped?

I had breast implants more than 20 years ago and have had hives and swellings (chronic urticaria and angiodema) for about the last 15. I also asked my surgeon and was assured that the implants could not be the cause. As I have had this for so many years now and the condition only seems to worsen I am still inclined to believe that the implants were the cause.

I think that's very odd that the surgeon told you that it wasn't the case, but I think that he's probably trying to cover himself, because it sounds like you might be suffering some sort of allergic effect from the implants. Have you considered having them removed?

I guess that as I have no proof positive I'm just too scared to have them removed. The whole business of the surgery (I'm now in the USA and had it done in London, England back when I lived in the country) and the result to my appearance. If in doubt, do nowt - and all that. I wish I knew for sure.

I had my breast augmentation back in 2004. A few months after that I started to get these light rashes on my legs. I've been to the doctor and received countless medication whether for the itchiness and swelling. Later that year the rash started to appear on my whole body...torso, arms, legs.. Everywhere below the neck. I've done many blood tests and biopsys to try to figure out what it is but all they can tell me is that it is a rash/hives. Been to regular family doctors, emergency room drs, rheumatologist, accupuncturist and also dermatology center at university of San francisco. All have given me prescriptions that did not work or relieved the symptoms. Rashes would appear Nd fade and then new fresh ones would come back. Noticed that when I drink any sort of alcoholic drinks it activates the rashes to appear all over my body.
I truly feel like it is a result of my breast augmentation. It makes me feel depressed where I don't want Anyone to see my body. It's hard to sleep sometimes because I get the heat feeling throughout. I can't wear dresses or short sleeves anymore because my skin is discolored. It's hard not knowing and no one can help you figure it out. So flash forward 5 years with this ongoing rash/hives or whatever u want to call it. No diagnosis of what is really causing it.

:$ Response to Newbie - I just got my permanent implant 11/20. My mastectomy was 6/4/09. I started itching - chest, arms mainly, legs, back, and stomach about a month before my replacement surgery. It crossed my mind that it could be the implant but I thought I would wait and see if the itching continued after the replacement. It has definitely continued. I asked my doctor if anyone ever spoke of an itching reaction - he just said no. hadn't heard of anyone. the itching is driving me crazy and my family. If I knew it would subside, I would put up with it. Does it go away? Why the itching now and not last year. Nothing new in my life. Thanks.
