Today I got the MR results. I have two cysts. One is in the right side of the region of nasopharynx dimensions of 7x4.5mm and the other is in pineal gland area with 11mm in diameter. I was advised to repeat the MR in 6 to 12 months.
Besides the usual symptoms like my eyesight got worst in the last few years, from -0.5 to -1.5 within 5 years. Not so strong headaches, the paracetamol solves it. Until now I was blaming the weather changes for it.
Similar to all the others right. But something else happens to me.
About a month ago I was on my coffee break and suddenly I could not speek for half an hour. This made me visit a neurologist. My speech was absolutely blocked while my mind was perfectly clear. Like someone pressed „pause“ on part of mine brain responsible for speech. No other symptoms were present at that time. Perhaps a bit of something like „Deja Vu“. Does this happened ever to anyone? It was scary! Besides that my right hand is shaking for most of the day. Not significantly but sometimes it is so obvious that others can notice. And this with hand lasts for about ten years already. Parkinson’s maybe?
I did fell on my head ten years ago when blasted by an explosion on concrete but miraculously nothing was broken.
Anyone has any ideas?

My daughter had an MRI done in June as part of a study that she's been in since she was 6 mos old-she's now 20. The MRI was done at NIH in Bethesda, MD thru Univ. of MD.

At the beginning of July, one of the drs called and said that they wanted to notify her that she had "an enlarged pineal gland" and that it was nothing to worry about, but they wanted to inform her.

I told her to request her medical report to see a dr at Johns Hopkins at the urgining of my neurologist. Today her medical report came and she has a "...16mm in diameter pineal cyst.." I was shocked that NIH would blow this off as not being of concern.
So now we're waiting for them to send us the radioloogic cd with the MRI scan on it so a second opinion can be given.

Before we found out about this, she started complaining of dizziness and has had headaches conintuously for the past several years.

Over the past three months I was having pain, clamy feeling, heaviness in my right arm. I went to the doctor and he suggested an MRI. They called this week and told me they found a pineal cyst measuring 1.4 cm that was 'most likely' begnin. I have no headaches but have been having trouble with my vision for awhile. I feel fine. Should I be worried? Should I make an appointment with a specialist? My next MRI is scheduled in 5 months to check to see if it is growing. Any advise would be helpful.

I went for a catscan because I have been having some headaches (which now I know the head aches are anxiety related, because they come and go and I have NO symptoms of eye problems or any other symptoms related to this stupid cyst)... Anyway, they found "a mildly enlarged pineal gland". Calcification present. So I've been reading up about this and it seems it is VERY common to have calcification or a cyst on this gland that never causes a problem. My doctor ordered an MRI, blood work to look for cancer markers, opthamalogy test for pressure behind my eyes (which is normal, test done 2 days ago). He has then directed me to see a Neuro-oncologist to have them read my results. I am terried of closed MRI and want an open MRI but the doctor said it has to be an MRI with and without contrast and semi flow. I dont know what semiflow is??? Does that have to do with the contrast??? I am afraid but everyone in my family tells me there is most likely nothing wrong with me and the doctors are just trying to cover their butts... Help in Cleveland!!! 8-|

Now she has been found to have both and it exsplains a lot but still a consering to me as a mom. Now she is having more headaches and has lost some of her eyesight and she use to have over 20/20 sight . She gets her next MRI next week and I feal as though someone has my heart in a vise. Yes , I know for a lot a pople nothing has ever came of theres but on her last MRI it was already a consering size that she has MRIs every six mounths. What do you think?

My daughter is 40 years old and has had a pineal cyst for a few years. They say it is calcified and won't do surgery. They say it is not pressing on anything. Now she has been diagnosed with bi polar and I'm wondering if it really is bi polar but due to her cyst. I have read that it can cause emotional problems. Has anyone else been diagnosed with bi polar that has a pineal cyst?

Thank You

I am 20 Years old. I just found out that I have a pineal gland cyst that is a bit enlarged.
About a year and a half ago, I blacked out one, morning and fell and hit my head one too many times. Ever since then I've been having these horrible headaches every day. (But I'm not sure if the cyst has always been there & maybe the fall affected it more) The doctors didn't want to do a CT because they "thought" every thing was normal. But I know that I can't be having headaches like this for no reason, So I insisted that i get a CT. That lead to an MRI. Now I know what may be causing these headaches, which is a bit of a relief. I still have to go see my neurologist and a brain surgeon to see if this cyst needs to be removed.
I just hope everything will be fine.

I am 45, and was informed yesterday that I have a Pineal cyst. I am hospitalized because I was having Vertigo symptoms and Hypertension issues. Vertigo is not fun. My head starts spinning violently, many times a day and night, for no apparent reason. If I am standing, I will fall. I have high blood pressure, which has been controlled with meds, but is now uncontrolled. I think just knowing that you may start spinning at any moment, might make you a little stressed which can make your heartrate go up. So my hospital discharge instructions are to take a diziness pill as needed, valium at night(Doc explains in big words, it will help my brain feel better), and a higher dose of Blood pressure medication. He says the Pineal cyst is no big deal, he would not even tell me what it was, just don't worry about it he says. I also saw a neurologist here in the hospital, who said the same thing. So I decided just for my piece of mind to check out this Pineal Cyst thing, and I am seeing alot of repetition in these posts, as to symptoms people are having, and how Doctor's are alot of times not real concerned about it. I'm thinking now, that maybe if it's possible to "fix" the problem, then that might be better than using medications to mask the problem. I love my doctor, he always makes me better, but now I am wondering if maybe I should get a second opinion.

Yes, get a second opinion. And a third if you need to. Pineal cysts are very poorly understood, but they DO cause headache and dizziness, and they can also cause mood swings that mimic bipolar disorder. Doctors do not know a lot about the pineal gland, and most of them were taught that pineal cysts are common and cause no problems. This is not true. They cause: headache, dizziness, light sensitivity, double vision, a feeling that your eyes stick when you look up (Parinaud's gaze) among other symptoms. If you have a cyst bigger than 5mm and you have had chronic headaches and double vision, it might be because of the cyst. The bad news: the only way to cure the cyst is to have it removed surgically. Not many doctors want to do the surgery because since it is so rare they have not had a lot of practice. You need to find somebody with experience in this kind of surgery. Good luck!

I have a 2cm pineal cyst. I have headaches pretty much every day, ringing of the ears, pressure behind my eyes and by my left ear, tremors, fatigue. I had vertigo 2 months ago, and since then have followed up with the neurologist twice. I consistently fail the Romberg's test, can't walk a straight line, and had a very abnormal ENG(balance test). I would say my large pineal cyst is symptomatic. The first neurologist said these cysts are very common, and I have nothing to worry about. I explained all of my symptoms, and he said they are probably not from the cyst. He said I should come in 3 days a week for "balance therapy", and as for my very visible tremors..he said maybe I am nervous. So, I did some research and found a neurosurgeon who has done 3000 brain surgeries. I was hopeful he would be able to just remove this thing, and I would be all better. No such luck. Again, these are very common, maybe you are nervous, and just don't worry about it. This is really frustrating. I am so tired of having headaches. I have done alot of research, and many people have had them surgically removed. There have been cases of sudden death from apoplexy. I know the surgery is risky, but the alternative is not good either. Here is just one of a million articles I've seen. If anyone would like to share any information with me, please email me. Thanks.

amazing, I so wanted to say this...

truth be told, I did research on this..after being diagnosed with FIBRO...and guess what,

I removed all sweeteners from my diet for three weeks straight, and NO PAIN...again...been pain free

for 3 yrs now...my doctors STILL don't believe me ..,yet PAIN FREE I am...hmmmmmmmm.

try it, it might be the answer you are looking for.

Pineal gland cyst, yes I have one, have for almost 25 yrs, and

the pain got worse and worse....guess what, it is part of the nervous system, which

in fact will be "enhanced" with the sweeteners....so ....perhaps YOU are on to something.

I have been PAIN free three yrs....so can others...but...a cyst is a cyst, and some can hurt, some

can burst and some require surgery. NO one is alike, they all have their own energy.

I have seen many changes in moods, head aches, dizziness in her for the last 3yrs. They seem to be getting worse this past yr. could some one recommend a web site or a Dr. that wont just tell her not to worry its nothing!

I know several people with a pineal cyst. Usually these cysts are found after MRI imaging ... usually for headaches. It is important to watch these cysts over time with repeat MRI scans, and consider biopsy/removal if they enlarge. A good resource is a ***edited by moderator*** ** inappropriate posting**
