I have been on Methadone for 7 years for chronic pain. I finally got sick of paying $100./mo. to see my Dr and get my script. I am trying to cut back and detox my body and am pleasently suprised at the minimal pain in my back however the wiothdrawal is HELL. I have diarrhea nauseau etc.. the worst is the feeling that every nerve in my body is on fire and the sleeplessness. I worry that by cutting back slowly I am just prolonging the hell. How long did your husband suffer and did he cut back or stop all at once?? please help!

methadone stays in ur system way longer than any percocets, oxies, which take 3 days, dones can take over a week or more depends on how many u do, even if u did a few it wont take 3 days it will take longer

I had been on methadone for 6yrs & was cut cold turkey at 80mg. The 1st couple days it wasn't so bad but everyday after it kept getting worse. Needless to say I relapsed w/ heroin. Its funny I got on methedone to get off heroin & the only way to come off methadone was w/ heroin.but I ended up putting myself in detox & rehab. Withdrawls lasted 3months!! I was always tired & weak but eventually started feeling a little better. The sad thing is I miss methadone. I miss the energy it would give me. I felt I functioned better with it. Now that I'm clean it takes a lot of mental motivation just to get out of bed & complete simple tasks.I hated going to the clinic everday & waiting in line. It felt like a prison cause I could never go out of town or stay somewhere overnight because I was to scared I would miss my dose but like someone mentioned its a doubleedged sword. I want to get back on it but the cons outwiegh the pros so whoever thinks about getting on it I strongly suggest find another way get help any other way you can

3 days is not right. I'm with pain management and we just started doing the ever loving drug test. Thank you FDA. Anyway, I took 20mg of methadone on Sat about 10am. I had my first pee test the following Thur about 11am. I drank a gallon of tea everyday. That was 4 whole day without it. I tested positive. My doctor told me that it can take about 28 days for it to come back normal. Because of the way it does in your body. I take it about 12 days on then go back to my meds. I would not expect a clean test until you were without it for 12 days. My cousin failed her urine test at 10days, then past it at 12. She and I do the same thing, we weigh the same and are the same height.

I have a back Injury and i go to the DR. every month i have been Disabled for 15 yrs now and they have just started to make you take a piss test for the Insurance Co..And yes Methadone is on the piss test sheet hope this helps you...........

I was replying to a,question you wrote a blog about ! When I started methadone I felt that need also it didn't stop until they got my dose stable I'm now at 120mg a day and that is working I have no cravings at all ! It was just the matter of getting my dose high enough to knock the craving out I guess ! Any hard core user should have a high dose unfortunately I live in TN an they start you out at 30 mg a day. I just kept seeing the Dr every week until it was holding me good ! Which was a pain in the ass but it is better than the alternative if you know what I mean ! I agree. I was sick as a dog on Methadone but it was a great pain reliever. I have 11 different illinesses-just got on disability. I would give anything to be able to work again. I hope your husband luck. Methadone nearly destroyed our 30 yr. old marraige.

Ul b ok 4 40hrs anyway. I'm on 65/day last year, and had to come to the usa from cda on a dime n no time for carries etc. So off I went. I'm on 42 hrs now and I'm feeling fine. Its days 3 4 5 6 that get worse worse worse! But I've also dbl dosed b4, and didn't have my does for the next day but felt as tho I did from the half life. Cause the half life was my actual 60mgs since I'd have had 60mg left from the 120mgs day b4 :)
