Hello! I had shot of depro provera 1 year ago and I gained weigh (60 lbs in one year!) Horrible!!! And I didn’t change my eating habbits or anything. Also doctor told me there are no side effects to depo provera! So, my question now is: how soon do you lose weight after going of depo provera?

Ugh, I went through this when I was twenty. Started the shot, was on it for about 9 months, gained approximately. 10 lbs, stopped the shot and lost the weight in a few months, then went back on it when things got serious with me and my now husband and in 6 months I gained 25 lbs. The funny part is I missed just one shot by 3 weeks and got pregnant. I am never ever going to use depo provera again. In order to lose weight, I needed to be more active. I started going to pool for swimming 2-3 times per week and started doing pilates. Also, I cut out much of sweets and fizzy drinks and that did the trick.
Started the depo shots about 13 or 14 years ago. I was a UK Size 4 (US Zero) when I started, now I'm buying a 16/18 and I hate myself - it made me suicidal in fact. I'm very self-conscious, don't want to socialise. I used to be very confident and outspoken. I had endometriosis and never wanted any children, so having periods was a pointless, painful part of life I wanted to stop. So, I started depo. Suffering with migraines, I couldn't have the mini or combined pill and I couldn't always remembet to take the POP pill at the same time every day. People keep saying that depo increases your appetite - and thus as you eat more you gain more. That is not true in every case. I eat LESS now than I've ever done, and much healthier, and power walk every day including walking the dog 3-5k every evening... but I'm still putting on weight that doesn't correlate with my diet. Even when I eat only one meaningful meal a day having only had fluids all day. Every time I have the shot, I feel like I'm gaining a few more stretch marks. I can't stand the sight of myself in the mirror and I don't really seek intimate attention any more which is doubly depressing. I got recommended for a hysterectomy (aged 33) but they couldn't do this because the endometriosis scarring had caused my organs to glue themselves together and fuse. So to avoid making my mental health suffer any more with a highly-likely colostomy bag resulting from that surgery, I've been told to have the mirena coil instead. But because of Coronavirus being so prevalent at the moment, I've been put on a long waitlist which means they want me to continue having the injections until my surgery date. Previous to this I'd had all manner of bloodworks done, x-rays, scans, MRI's, liver function tests, hormone tests, - all of it. Kept coming back "normal" every time. Basically if you're reading this and wondering if Depo is right for you, only you can be the judge of that, but for me personally and not representative of anyone else, it ruined the prime of my life and I regret it bitterly. I can't wait for this crappy drug to leave my system. This is my own experience of 14 years and is not at all representative of how you may experience it yourself or on behalf of others.
