Hello! I had shot of depro provera 1 year ago and I gained weigh (60 lbs in one year!) Horrible!!! And I didn’t change my eating habbits or anything. Also doctor told me there are no side effects to depo provera! So, my question now is: how soon do you lose weight after going of depo provera?

I have been on depo for 3 years!! No weight gain or side effects!!! EVERY BODY REACTS DIFFERENT TO MEDS!!!
I had my first shot on (I'll never forget the date because it was the day that changed my body for worse forever) October 01, 2004. On that day, I weighed in at 130 lbs. (I'm 5'7") a perfect weight for me. The gain wasn't noticeable at first THEN by mid-November of 04' my once size 5-7 pants was noticeably snug. I had a flat, muscular tummy, etc. everything that goes along with a fit body, a by-product of exercise and eating right. What the f--- happened?? I did the research on depo-provera and read about the 3-5 lb. weight gain. No problem, I thought, but was sadly misled. My male, semi-retired gynocologist didn't say much other than what I read. Needless to say, I did not go for the 2nd shot because by that time I had gained over 20 lbs!! I'ts now over 30 lbs. Again, what the f---!! I, too, like another person posted, thought I could exercise it away, to no avail. I gained more weight and am still bloated most days. My period is regular after 3 years from just 1 shot, but the side effects from my period are unlike anything I've experienced. Absolutely depressing!! I've changed gynocologist since and she stated to me she would not have even suggested depo-provera, especially at my age, 41, at the time of my shot. I will and can never recommend depo-provera to any woman at any age. Very disappointing!!And now I have to live with my decision for the rest of my life.
Well me and my friend both got on the depo the same day same time and we both have lost 16 pounds being on it. We had thought it was going to make us gain but its making us lose the weight. But we have been on it for about 1 month. So like why are we loosing it?
Every person's body chemistry is different in how it responds to medication. Some lose weight and some gain while on birth control, and in particularly depo. 16 pounds is a significant amount to lose though, and you should definately see your doctor about the weight loss. Do you have a lot to lose or is 16 pounds a lot for your body type?
I first started the shot when I was 16 and at the time I actually lost weight on it and didn't have a period, Then I got off and took the pill for a while.. After I have my first child (when I was 19) I got back on the shot stil no period, and still continued to lose my weight I gained from being pregnant, however I got off of it again because I was scared about bone loss, and other side effects you hear about! My daughter is 3 now and 4 1/2 months ago I got the shot, I weighed 136 (which was still big to me, I weighed 115 before I had my daughter) and 3 months later I weighed 152 So I didn't get the shot again it was AWFUL this time I gained almost 20lbs in 3 months (even with exercise and diet) and have my period for 5 weeks! I will NEVER get back on it again! Can anyone tell me how long it will take for this weight to come off? It has made me SO depressed?
I have been on depo for 17 yrs...no weight gain..other than what age and stuff brings...nuttin to do with depo...but during the first month i had spotting...nuttin since...now i am having vaginal mucusy bleeding...weird after all therse yrs...but no weight gain nor mood swings..it leveled out my moods and no more painful periods..i began the depo due to severe endometriosis and just decided i no longer would treat myself to pms again...now i am having bloddy discharge in the am and difficulty./painful urination....not sure what the cause but will go in to have it checked ff need be...dr called in bactrim cos i think it may be a uti//but doesnt explain the vaginal bleeding after all these yrs???
i have actually never gained weight with the depo shot. the yaz pill made me gain 20 pounds in 6 months. so i went back to the shot and lost 10 pounds within the first 2 weeks.
I took one shot of Depo Provera in April 2009 and it is now October 2009. My period just returned last month (September). I had three periods in one month and none this month. I have also gained 15lbs in the first two weeks of my second month of the drug without changing my eating habits. After the initial 15 lb weight gain, I severely cut my intake as I could no longer fit into my clothes. My primary care physician also suggested I go on a 900 calorie diet to lose the weight, which is very dangerous. I have no followed her recommendations and have since sought out professional weight loss consultation. I have had incredible muscle spasms in my jaw and back that sent me to the hospital and rendered me disabled for many days. It's now October and I am still getting muscle spasms and unable to lose the weight. I am on Jenny Craig and eating a 1200-1400 calorie diet a day and walking 3 miles a day. I am in my fourth week of the Jenny Craig program and have not lost any weight! I contact Pzifer Pharmaceuticals to ask what is the mechanism that is causing women to gain weight on Depo Provera and not be able to lose it? They told me they are researching it but do not have an answer yet. Pzifer told me that Depo provera stays active in the body for 200+ days, despite the recommended 3 month suggested shot intake. Apparently, from what I have read, your body goes into a sudo-starvation mode, from the imbalance of hormones - despite your intake and your body retains the fat regardless of dieting, because you're already in a sudo-starvation mode. There is no way around starvation mode of the body. I am trying to increase my metabolism and maintaining a low calorie intake on Jenny Craig by eating smaller amounts more frequently during the day. This method too, is not working.
Hey Ladies! I'm Lauren, I'm 17, and well this is my story. When i was younger i was always the athletic child. I cheered, played soccer, I did it all; and some how my weigh always mannaged to fluxuate no matter how active i was. When i was 14 i was under alot of stress. My mom was having an affair with a guy at work and I was getting teased at school cause i had bigger breast. So i decreased my food intake drastically, causing me to get sick (i know this is gross but its relavent i promise :-) ), i was vomiting uncontrollably, had runny stool, blood in my stool, and sever weight loss. I was shortly diognosed with a chronic disease called Ulcerative Colitis (look it up if it interests you), and spent exactly a month in LeBouhner Childrens Hospital in Memphis. When I was admitted at Lebouhner i was about 120, when i left i was about 95-100 pounds. After a month of test and tubes feeding me, i went to go live with my Aunt in Missouri. I was sent home on numerious (and i mean like 4 or 5) medications. The one i hated the most was a steriod called Prednizone. I took it for about the WHOLE time i live with my aunt which was about a year. Prednizone gives you that "moon face" effect and it made my acne horrible. I didnt want to leave the house i felt that ugly and depressed. Anyway, after a year of taking prednizone and a few trips to the hospital I finaly stoped taking it when i moved back in with my mom. I was 15 and it was the summer of '06. I had suprisingly lost all the weight. I was back in my beautifull Memphis where i belonged with my mom. Well, after i came back i discovered my mother was pregnant and we were moving to Arkansas with her boyfriend. I had no problem with this after all, what choice did i have? Anyway im going to skip some un important details and go to February of '08 (at this time im only 16). In February I started dating my bestfriends brother who is 2 years older than me ( yes i know, but she got us together). No he was not my first but anyway we started having "relations" pretty quickly after that. We got super close and we were always together. Durring early august we (along with my mother) discovered i was 3 months pregnant. I got a job at a pizza place and worked there untill that December. My pregnancy was consitered a "high risk pregnancy" due to the previous steriod medicatioin and the Ulcerative colitis. I gave birth to my daughter Paiton in mid February. After the pregnancy my mom insisted that I take the "depo" shot. I took the shot a total of 2 times and its been 6 months since ive had the shot. Befor the pregnancy i was about 120 pounds, now after the pregnancy and the 2 rounds of depo im almost 180 ( no im not exagerating). I'm starting to lose the weight a little at a time but I've only had 1 period since stoping the shot and that was about 3 months ago. I know this was a LONG story but i appreciate you reading (for those who did) and would love any sort of comments or advice :-) Thanks!
So, I'm nineteen, and I was on the Depo shot for a little over three years. During the time I was on it, I didn't have any periods, but I did suffer A LOT of weight gain, almost one hundred pounds!! I originally weighed 170, when I finally decided to get off the shot, I weighed 165!! (During this time, I was actually eating healthfully and exercising on a regular basis). I've now been off the shot and onto regular birth control pills for about three months, and have lost forty pounds without changing anything else. Within in a week of stopping the shot, I had lost five pounds, was less tired, and the headaches that I thought were due to stress disappeared.

I have been losing weight with Slimming World since January 2008. I had lost 4 and a half stone until I decided to have the depo injection. I have not lost ANYTHING since having it done back in October 2009 and cannot wait for it to wear off so i can start losing the weight again lol. Good old fashioned condoms will do me as they don't come with side effects lol x Good luck to all those trying to lose weight and here is a tip for you all...try eating lots of speed foods, those that use more calories than that are in the actual food for example an apple, strawberries and raspberries. Wishing you all the best of luck, Lisa x x
I AM A 14 YEAR OLD GIRL (2009)NOW AND MY MOM PUT ME ON DEPO SHOTS I GUESS BECAUSE SHE THOUGHT I WAS HAVING SEX OR WHATEVER...BUT I STARTED TAKING IT WEN I WAS 11 OR 12 LIKE 2 YEARS OR SO AGO.BUT I WEIGHED 110 IN THE EARLIER PART OF THE YEAR LIKE IN FEBRUARY BUT NOW ITS DECEMBER& I GUESS I JUST STARTED HAVING THE EFFECTS OF WEIGHT GAIN BECAUSE NOW I THINK I GAINED 20 POUNDS&I'M GETTING BIG AND I HAVE ROLLS&I THINK IM GONNA GET FATTER &FATTER &GAIN ABOUT 20 POUNDS EVERY YEAR AND THATS NOT GOOD.IM WONDERING IS THIS ALL THE WEIGHT IM GONNA GAIN.IM GONNA TRY TO EXERCISE BUT I DONT THINK IT WILL WORK BECAUSE OF WHAT YOU GUYS ARE SAYING.AND IM GONNA BE TAKING THIS DAMN SHOT TILL I GET 18.I DONT THINK IT IS HEALTHY BECAUSE I AM ONLY 14.BY THE TIME I GET 18 IM GONNA WEIGH 200 N SUMTHIN POUNDS BECAUSE OF THIS STUFF.&ALSO I WANTED TO KNOW WILL I BE ABLE TO GET PREGNANT AFTER I STOP TAKING THIS&MY PERIOD HAS'NT CAME ON YET.IT WAS A LITTLE AT 1ST WEN I STARTED TAKIN IT BUT NOW I DONT EVEN COME ON AT ALL.THE LAST TIME MY PERIOD WAS WAS LIKE 9 MONTHS AGO.WTF
I've had about 4 rounds of depo and have nothing bad to say about it. I haven't gained any weight at all. And i've had no problems losing it either (approx 10lbs) in the last 3 months. I used to have horrible horrible migraines but the depo has stopped that from happening and I have it every 10 weeks instead of 12 to make sure I don't get any more migraines. My doctor told me that the weight gain is due to your brain telling you your hungry when your actually not. She said if you can work really hard to override that "i'm hungry" message in the first two weeks after the shots, then you'll be fine. If you've had a decent meal then there you shouldn't need any more food... keep telling yourself that and then youll stop getting the hungry messages. I love being on the depo... its great!
Well I thought I would tell everybody my story just in case it helps. First off I started taking depo provera December 1st 2007 a month before my17th birthday at that time I weighed depending on what I ate between 135-140 pounds and also played soccer. I had no weight gain the first 6 months. Then over the summer I started gaining weight. Not a whole lot or anything but I could tell I was a little chubbier. I then started college that fall. I then gained a little more wieght but then started getting depressed. I thought that this was due to me just starting college so I thought nothing of it. I then started working out more so that way I could lose the weight that I had gained it wasn't a whole lot so I thought I could lose it in a couple of months. But after working out for a while I lost nothing. I still thought nothing of it just the whole freshmen 15 thing. Then a 1 year and 2 months in I started having problems with my knees they hurt all the time my back also bothered me. I passed out randomly while sitting down at my desk studying. I also had random hot flashes. Still thinking nothing of it I started getting severe abdominal pains and UTI's. I seriously had 5 within a span of 3 months and trust me they are not fun! I still thought nothing of it. This past december (2009) I decided that I wouldn't get my shot because I realized that my weight gain might be comming from there. I've been off of depo for 1 month and 2 weeks and still haven't gotten my period back yet. Last week I weighed 154 pounds, I now weigh 157! I talked to my mom and she said that she gained a little weight when she first got off the shot so I am hoping that is where its comming from. I thought I was pregnant because I haven't had my period and have been gaining weight but it seems to me that other people are going throught the same thing. But anywho. Pro's that I had while being on depo- Made my skin look awesome! I hardly had any problems with acne. I never got a period which was nice. I didn't really have to worry about getting pregnant althought we also use condoms just in case. It was simple to use and I only had to get it every 3 months. Cons- Weight gain of about 15 pounds that I can not get rid of (it went to my boobs, which some people may think is awesome but to me it wasn't, and it made me form love handels that I have never had before and my stomach is poochy whereas it wasn't before depo) I would sometimes be angry and sad for no reason. Idk if that is just because I am female though. I got all those UTI's, I read on the risk label that UTI's only happen in rare cases though, abdominal pains, weird hot flashes, aching knees, and my teeth are now very sensitive. It was awsome the first few months I was on it but it went down hill very fast. I just suggest you look up more info about depo before you try taking it. I wish that I had.
