Hello!
I had shot of depro provera 1 year ago and I gained weigh (60 lbs in one year!) Horrible!!! And I didn’t change my eating habbits or anything. Also doctor told me there are no side effects to depo provera! So, my question now is: how soon do you lose weight after going of depo provera?

I find all the comments about cavities and depo interesting and saddening at the same time. I'm almost fanatical about caring for my teeth yet the cavities seem to keep coming. I don't drink sodas and make sure to drink water after I have something sweet if I can't brush right away. But usually I just wait to have dessert after my last meal so I can brush immediately.
My husband on the other hand hardly remembers to brush at night, drinks sodas and junk all the time and not a single cavity.
I don't think my dentist believes that I take care of my teeth. I asked her if there was any link between birth control and cavities in women and she said no like I was fishing for an excuse. She didn't even give it a second thought and proceeded to tell me not to do things that I just told her I don't do. If depo can cause bone loss why is it a stretch to think that it can cause cavities. Just because someone hasn't choosen to investigate it yet doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist.
It's a relief to see that others share my experience and agree with me regardless of what the "experts" say. I know I'm not crazy.
I plan to come off depo this year. Time for my husband to share the burden of hassle-free sex. Like others I gained weight and hope to loose it, but I was very small before depo so if I don't mind if it doesn't all come off. If only I could figure out how to get my teeth back...sigh.

hi i have taken the depo shot but, i only took it one time. i gained 30 pounds just from one shot like every one else i didnt change what i ate. i only ate breakfast and dinner and not really much when i did eat. every day i would exercise like crazy i would do 500 crunches 200 regular situps and jog for 30 minutes as well as 100 side bends (50 for each side) and some days i would do exercise dvds with my friends and my sister. and i would not lose any thing. actually the next day i would feel fatter. i kept a food jornal (that was stupid because i know what i eat and if i ate it writing it down would not help burn it off, it just made me feel obsest with food. it may help some people but not me.)
i started eating less till the point were i was not really eating anything. i felt really depressed all the time and had mood swings like crazy and my leg bones started to feel weird like when you get cramps in your legs but i could tell it was NOT my muscles it was my bones because it only happened when i stood up or tryed to run or something. i stopped taking the shot and any birth control all together. i want to feel like a normal person i just had two babies and then took the shot and felt crapy. i dont want to take diet pills because of the side effects. i know it may seem cheesey but i want to lose my weight the natural way. i got discouraged so much and stopped exercising a few times and felt like im never going to be back to my normal weight. But i tryed to encourage my self by pushing my self mentally bucause i was not motivated any more. i would try to focuse on clothing and jewelry and perfume and other stuff rather than being fat and thinking about food.and i would only think about exercising if any thing. i never been fat before so it is really hard. nobody calls me fat or fat lady or chunky or anything like that, so (sorry if you find it offensive but it really did help me) i started calling my self fatty, fat girl, large , grande size and any thing else i would think to my self when i exercise
'move it fat lady! move your fat a**" lol , and i would pretend like it was some one else picking on me (no im not going to give my self an eating disorder or anything because i know how much i need to lose and want to lose. before i got pregnant the second time i weighed 132 pounds (im 5'4) i weighed two poundes more before ever having a baby ever i want to be 134 pounds i weighed 164 pounds after i took stupid depo fat girl making shot i hate that shot if it was alive i would beat it up! but for real, what i was telling you i did actually helped me get back motivated. i dont do the same exercises but i try to run every day for 2 hours (one in the morning and one in the evening) i try not to over do it because i dont want to not exercise at all on my lazy dayz if i feel lazy i at least do it for one hour. beats not doing it at all. i try to stick with it. and now i really have lost weight i lost down to 154-152 it goes in between the two numbers . i feel a lot better now not perfect but i can tell i will be soon. just takes time thats all. i dont beat my self up any more now i dont need it (it did help me on those days i felt extra fat and lazy dont knock it till you try it. if you try it the proper way to do it is to be a true bully and pick on your self really hard say every thing that you know will hurt your feelings then just when you feel sad you pull your self up and think " no im not going to be the fat grandma on the bed that cant breath because to much fat pushing on my body and now i have to stay on the bed for the rest of my life ! i can lose weight and i will it will take time but i can and will do it (oh ya dont throw away your skinny clothes either throw away your fat ones just wear the ones that you can button and zip but you still have a bit of a roll just put on a comfy shirt that makes it not show and no matter how uncomfy they are do not change them till you get to small for them if you see what you dont like then you will try your hardest to get rid of it then next thing you know they will fit better and you see how hard you have worked and it makes you feel great!!! belive me i did and i still am . no matter how old you are you can lose weight and you can be in shape its a long and tough journey (for REAL if you took depo stupid shot) but you will get where you want to go if you get your fat a** up (jus joken ) and move till you shrink but be realistic do what helps you and no matter what love who you are even if you are that grandma. if you love yourself you take care of your self . but also remember for you mothers like me, witch means more, your beautiful child/children or having a perfect body? for me my babies. im still working at it to i just started losing after one whole year of taking the shot one time you can to just keep tring ;-) you can and will if you want to. but if i were you i would not use weight loss pills drinks or any other weight loss product. remember READ THE SIDE EFFECTS FIRST. those are just get rich quick scheems for some one else and also dont you want to be healthy the way you were made naturaly. its not hard, it just takes time. good luck to everyone 8) stay cool!!
Hello, I am currently on depo, but I going off after this last shot I had, about a month ago, wears off,
I gained weight while I was on the depo for the first year, but when I started exercising more I was able to lose some of that weight, although I am still about 5 pounds away from where I was before I started Depo.
Here is my serious concern though, I have mostly read and heard that women usually stay at the same weight or lose weight after getting off the shot, but my friend, who started depo at the same time as me, got off depo about four months ago and since she has gained about 20 pounds AFTER getting off depo, has anyone else ever had this happen?
I am a bit worried, I was hoping to lose weight after getting off depo, not gain it. Maybe my friend's reaction to getting of depo is abnormal, but If anyone knows anything about this, please let me know.
I wish I had never started Depo.
I been using DP since 1998 or 1999... I should go get a shot but i dont want to!!!! I need to loose weight! When i started i weighed 80kg's I'm now at the gym weighing at 150KG'S!!!!!! All i want is to weigh 100kg's and ill be happy! I have also gotten bad tooth decay and my bones im guessing are not as they should be. I wish i could get some help. Im sick of being over weight. Im pretty but look terrible! Al-tho i know my Boyfriend loves me i cant help but feel "not very attractive"! PLS if anyone can or knows how to help pls let me know!
Hi
I have been on the depo provera for about 3 years now before i started i had perfect periods every 3 weeks and i weighed aproximately 65 kgs and was fit and healthy now since eing on the injection i weigh in at 92 kgs and dont get my period at all but when i do fitness that really is tiering i get irregular bleeding but only when doing hardcore fitness! I am coming off the depo on june the 8th because I feel unhealthy and see how i go but has anyone had the same symptoms like me?
Hey I was on the depo shot for two years and didn't gain any weight i then got off the depo and went on the seasonale pill for two years I then switched back to the depo shot and by the time i connected it to the depo i had gained a 100 lbs in a year. I have always been really tiny I was 115 lbs when I started the depo the first time and I was one of those people who could eat whatever I wanted and not gain an ounce. I have still been trying to get the weight off 4 years later. I have lost 25 lbs but that seems to be all that I can lose. Im having the same problem and my doctor told me that because it was caused by the shot I may never lose it and get back down to the size I was before this medicine. I went to the gym for 6 straight months and went and saw a nutritionist and still didnt lose any weight. Im getting really frustrated and really need to lose this weight.
I have been on the Depo shot for over 6 years. During this time, I have gained almost 100 lbs (As I have decreased my calorie intake, eating healthier, and exercising EVERYDAY), and now I can NOT lose ANY weight whatever I do! Also, I have been diagnosed with degenerative disc disorder (spine decay), and tooth decay. I have constant headaches and severe mood instability. I am miserable and this has been the worse I have ever been in my entire life. And people don't believe me when I tell them I am on a diet, or have been dieting for a long time, because it does not show.
I am due for my shot at the end of the month, and I am not getting one more shot of this crap. The main reason why I was on the shot to begin with, is because I have debilitating periods: Severe cramps, migraines, it feels like the life is being sucked out of me, hemmorraging, and I'm sick a week before and a week after my period. I am 21 and already debating on a hysterectomy because it is so awful. I rather cut out my uterus myself with a dull knife before ever having to experience another period ever again. So I am now debating on the PILL instead of the shot.... and hopefully I will drop this weight.
i have never had the shot, and never think i want to, but i really think that you should try to exercise again. because it takes awhile to get the depo out of you, you might not see any results for awhile. but it's sounds like u haven't been on it for awhile, so i think you should try again :) and if you don't see immediate results, you shouldn't give up the exercise because it's helping you detox the depo out of your system. i really hope this helps, and i wish you luck!!
I was 15 when I started the depo shot. I had a blood clot when I was 15 also thats why my doctor suggested I do the shot. I was on it for about 2 and 1/2 years. Before I started the shot I weighed 110 and now I weigh 147!! I am very active and the weight still piled on. I walk every night and even work out but the weight won't come off, any suggestions??
Hey,
I have been on the depo injection for over four years. I have put on about 7 Kg in that time. I was always very skinny, and have noticed that if i do not eat well, exercise or drink 2.5 ltrs of water per day, my weight increases quickly. I am about to stop the injection to try and have a family, and after reading all of the below posts, i am a little worried about conceiving. But, every women is different, and i have had no issues with the injection so far. (Apart form the weight gain!) I believe the injection is great for sports people and ladies who can't take the pill, and i will go back to it. Nothing is easy, and you must always work hard to keep fit. Try a skipping rope. 300 skips per day, can do it anywhere, can carry it in your purse! Works for me! :-P
Hiya,
I was on the depo for a total of 7 years. I was placed on it when i was 17. I had no side affects apart from the weight gain(2 dress sizes). I thought that the depo was great while i was on it as i was one of lucky ones to never have a period. I was however told by the nurse just before i came off of it that they had completed some more studies on it and have realised that they could have damaged my bone density by placing me on this too early. She then added that people should only be on it for a max of 5 years before they have to come off of it.
To think that the NHS are placing young people on drugs thats they have not fully tested is scary! I would have to say losing the weight was difficult and the only way i managed it was by going to the gym fanatically.
For ayone who is concidering going onto the depo then i would ask the doctor/nurse to give you all the current info on the depo from the research that has been conducted as it's always best to read it for yourself then make a decision.
It can take well over a year for the depo to get out of your system and for you to be able to conceieve again. For some people its even longer. This is dependant on how long you have been taking it.
Hi I was on dep provera last year and it ended in December - yet i'm still having huge amount off effect (awful bleeding!) and a massive weight gain. I'm 4ft10 age 26 and i used to be a year ago 7 stone 10/12 (depending what i eat that day) now i'm 8 stone 10 (last week going onto 9stone), i'm on a liquid diet now and from the begining of the year till now in August i cannot shift the weight. I go the gym whenever i can, i quit eating bread, pastry, chocolate and strictly have a high protien diet.
I want to know is there a way i can loose weight after depo provera? Has anyone successfully lost any weight once all the effect is out of the body? I been told by gyntologist (not sure how u spell it) that it take a full year for it to be out of the system, once it out of my body - will i start losing weight?
Hey, I have been on the depo shot for over a year now (5 shots.. 6th one is supposed to be in a few weeks) NOT NO MORE!!.. My story is like everyone's above weight gain, No period, ect. Ive been in the hospital time after time for chest pains. they think its a blood clot.. nice huh? also been put on depression meds.. and I'm only 20 this is way to young to be in the hospital having a heart attack.. The doctor never told me none of the side effects.. so i decided to look up y i have gained so much freaking weight and bam i learn stuff i never would have known.. Let me tell you I'm never taking the shot again..For all you girls on it... OMG GET OFF OF IT...
I started the depo when I was 15 and I started at 85 ponds and now at 18 I fluctuate back and forth between 120 and130 and that's so fat to me I don't have the build for that ... I was off the depo for two months and was at 105got back on and went back up ... I eat pretty healthy and I'm religious at exercise ..I understand the experts say we need exercise and change our diet but I have to disagree ....I'm pre med and it makes me think all that exercising your doing is great but you still havent elliminated that outside stimulus (the depo) which is a chemical one for weight gain .. Yes the exercise helps but as long as you have that chemical stimulus exercise is not full proof
