I am 23 yrs old 5'9" 242lbs and relaxed my calves are 18" around if that matters and have been playing sports since I was a kid. Also, I am pigeon toed if that helps anything. I played football all through out high school and also did power lifting. Ever since I can remember I have always had calve problems when I run or played sports. When I was playing football the coaches had me stretching my calves 2x a day for 15mins each and also before games I would get a 30min deep tissue calve message from our trainer which would work for awhile.
I have been trying to get back into shape but my calves are holding me back when it comes to running. I run between 1-2miles 3-4x a week and the only thing that is keeping me from going farther is the fact that my calves lock up. I can only make it about half a mile before they start to tighten and then its just plain painful to continue. On more than one occasion I have tried to run through the pain to see if it would stop and let me tell you it didn't. The cramp starts to work its way up my leg till my entire leg just locks up and I fall over in tears. After I run my calves are so tight it is hard to walk and when I try to stretch them out I can only do it for a few secs at a time because they hurt so bad.
The only time I ever went to the Dr. to have it looked at he said I didn't drink enough water. Well I know this to be untrue because I have not had a soda since i was 10yrs old and I have always drank between 1-2gals of water a day. At present I am closer to 2gals a day.
Any information on what could help me would be much appreciated and if you need anymore information please just ask.
