Sorry to hear about your daughter! Does she suffer from allergies? CF? I have been to see several doctors about my nasal polyps....and finally found a Naturopath who was willing to really listen to me instead of throwing steroids & antibiotics at me left and right. I would suggest, if you haven't already, have your daughter tested for both environmental & food allergies. I just found out three days ago a long list of foods I am allergic to. I am eliminating those foods for 3-6 weeks to clean out my system & will then reintroduce those foods. Probiotics are important as well as cutting out processed foods to include white sugar & gluten.

I really hope your daughter finds natural relief! Good luck & keep us posted.

How does Vicks & Kleenex cause nasal polyps?

Hi there,

Your nasal polyp issues mirror mine. I, too, get relief from prednisone but refuse to take it anymore as it kills the adrenal glands. I also am allergic to bread yeast & a lot of other foods. Discontinued all of them but still am having issues with the polyps. It's so frustrating & irritating. My ENT did take a huge one out right in the office & I haven't had problems on that side for months.

Good luck! :)

Hi. Just sharing my story. I had been suffering from nasal polyps for two years. Difficulty breathing, constant headaches, thick mucous, constant sinus draining, and everything else associated with polyps. Over the course of a year and a half, I took various antibiotics, steroids, and nasal sprays. None worked for me and the antibiotics actually caused me other problems. My doctors finally decided to do surgery. I must admit I was terrified after reading all the posts about the procedure! To my suprise, it was actually quick, and relatively painless. I went in the hospital Tuesday. I had to have an embolization because they thought I had a tumor behind the polyp and they wanted to make sure they cut off the blood vessels to the mass so I wouldn't bleed a lot. They stuck a catheter in my hip and did that procedure in about an hour. My actual surgery was yesterday (Wednesday). I was taken to pre-op where they checked my vitals and gave me fluids through my iv. I was given something to sedate me and taken to the OR. They put on an oxygen mask and seconds later I was out! Woke up maybe 2 hrs later. I was still super groggy but I felt very little pain. I was given a Percocet for the slight discomfort. I could breathe through my left nostril for the first time in years. I didn't require any packing or gauze either which was awesome. I was discharged a few hours after the procedure. I have been having nosebleeds about every hour, but I use afrin nasal spray for that and it stops it right away. I take percocets for the pain (mainly from the catheter in my hip). I'll be back to my regular routine in a week. Medical advancements have made this so much easier so please don't let the horror stories scare you. It's so worth it!

I had the surgery a year and a half ago and my polyps are back :( When I had my surgery, I was in sooo much pain for 3 days. It was literally the worst pain I had ever been thru. I did have a deviated septum as well and had to have splints put in my nose, so maybe that was why mine was so much worse (?). I'm not sure. It was totally worth it though. I am hoping that since the deviated septum has been taken care of that maybe the surgery will be a lot easier for me this time and that I will have no pain like you said.

How did he take it out in the office? With a machine or by hand?

Hi,

My doctor injected my polyp with something similar to novocaine to numb it. He then cut the blessed thing out. Never hurt...and oh what relief afterwards. I did have to take antibiotics following the procedure. I got my first sinus infection in 4 months & the side he took the polyp out was totally unaffected. Luckily, he was & is willing to do in right in the office as I am totally opposed to having surgery.

That's what I was thinking. Did he pull it out or use a tool?

Thanks!

Hi,

It was a tool...to be honest I didn't look real close....ha ha ha. It was a pincer of some sort & he tugged on the polyp. Excuse the grossness but the polyp came out in chunks..

Hi there,

I have been suffering from nasal congestion (sinitus), polyps, hay fever and asthma all my life! Everything I try does not work, and if I can't breathe through my nose more often than not I can't breathe comfortably through my mouth either as I am a major wheezer and am constantly using my inhalers but I'm never comfortable and always feel like I have the flu. I didn't like using steroid related inhalers or nasal sprays as I understand they're not very good for you in the long run, plus they didn't seem to work. I am on a waiting list to get my polyps removed but one year later I am still waiting.

Does anyone have any advice that would help my sinitus, polyps, hay fever or asthma? foods, meds or otherwise?

I am fed up with being a wheezy, sneezy snot machine!!!! PLEASE HELP!
