On a recent ultra sound a uniformly echogenic lesion was found in the right kidney which measures 0.9cm. This is suggested for a renal angiomyolipoma. A repeat ultrasound is schedule for re-evaluation in 6 months time. Now from what I have read about this. all non calcified lesion on the kidney, regardles of size, should be scanned by CT. I know it is small, but how can you tell if the lesion is growing inside the kidney as well. I am concerned. Suppose this lesion grows quickly. I am 69 years old and diabetilc. I have high bp and am anemic as well. Both bp and diabetes are under control with medication. Had low red blood count last september and took iron pills. By December it was discontinued. Now again my count is down (April). I did have episodes of eally bad itching where there was nothing on the skin to scratch but was so bad that I broke the skin. These sessions seemed to have stoped for a while. Thanks for your reply. I am concerned.
Thanks Anita1940 for your post and I appreciate your concern. The only way to tell if the lesion is growing is to undergo the re-evaluation that your doctor has scheduled in six months. I am surprised that they scheduled it out that long. If they were seriously concerned (life or death) they would have scheduled it sooner, say 30 days. Have they suggested treatment or are they still in the diagnosis stage? You are right in knowing that CT scans are typically used to check the growth and size. Perhaps, they are waiting until after the next ultrasound before making a decision on a CT scan.

You can decide what you want to do though. If you are concerned and want to know now, you can have a CT done. You may need a second opinion from a doctor but you ultimately decide on your healthcare and treatment. Good luck to you and keep us posted on what transpires.
