I'm a 34 year old woman, no children. I was diagnosed about 6 months ago with hypothyroid and have been taking synthroid every morning, ever since. My levels are all normal and all my tests appear to be in range. However, my hair is coming out like crazy! In the shower I don't notice it, never more than a hair or two on my pillow, but as soon as I comb through it, (mind you, I wait until it's almost completely dry to comb), I count about 80-100 hairs in the sink. I find a few on my clothes throughout the day as well, so I exceed 100 hairs a day. I have always had fine hair, so ANY hair loss is devastating, but this seems to have sky-rockjeted in recent months. I do take birth control pills in the evenings. I take a multi-vitamin every day and eat pretty well, get daily excersize, etc. I use shampoo and conditioner that do not contain any sulfates, as well. I feel like I do everything right, but the shedding is still so excessive! My doctor wants me to see a dermatologist but my insurance does not cover specialty stuff and I cannot afford a $300 visit just to be told to do everything I'm already doing and come back in a couple months to see if it's improved or not. I've been to specialists and I'm still paying off that debt, so going back to another is out of the question at this point. Any advice is appreciated!
