Hi, I am 35 years old female, and I live alone since I divorced my husband. I am so afraid of being alone, that I call my mother every day, just to hear her voice. When I’m not at work, I spend all my time with friends, just because I don’t want to came back to an empty house. This is not normal that a woman at my age is so afraid of being alone. What should I do?

Hi, there is a condition called monophobia. It is characterized by fear of being alone in certain situations. To be diagnosed, you have to be examined first. A doctor would ask you some questions about your fear and your past. I know how you feel, because my mother had the same problem. She lived with this condition for many years. She worked voluntarily because she had to be in company of other people. I was going to school, and my father worked eight hours a day in a factory. She was so afraid to stay alone, that she always had some friends or neighbors around. She finally started with a treatment, which lasted two years. She found a way to fight this fear of being alone, and she is finally happy.
